Painting of Cops as Pigs Hung Proudly in US Capitol

Their "reality" wasn't real though. Therein lies my issue with it.

Years ago I saw a video about Firefighters. They had a 6'2" burly guy and a 5'6" petite girl. They asked a group of 20 women, "If you were unconscious on the 2nd floor of a burning building, which one of these two firefighters would you prefer attempted your rescue. The response was unanimous.

 

What is real? If one believes in a god, is god real?

Since she is to small to properly apprehend a suspect, your solution is she just shoots everyone she pulls over.

Remember when Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders, when discussing a video from LA firefighter training that showed women failing to be able to chop through a roof or lift a ladder to a wall or drag a dummy to safety proclaimed that we should make it easier for women by supplying them with self raising ladders and "electric axes"? Good times. SG Elders was always a source for good laughs.

IF one thinks something is real, it is real to that person. Whether or not facts or observation by others shows it isn't real.

 

Just reported on the news:
The painting depicting cops as pigs, has been taken down, put back up, taken down................so far 6 times. Currently it's back up. Not only do the members of Congress not have any respect for the police, they can't make up their minds.

If the painting remains up, I suspect it will come down for good shortly after Jan 20. We'll soon see.

 

So Duncan took it down because he thought it would hurt the feelings of police.

No, it makes the government look like it approves of free speech.

As Cops keep getting killed, it is a Wonder why some would think hanging this in the Capitol could be a good idea. Maybe that's why these people got voted out. They're clueless and out of touch.

No, it makes Government look like they are just fine with dehumanizing stereotypes. And when your own Government is complicit in such a narrative, no wonder Cops get shot.

Well, that may be a common misconception concerning governments that support free speech, but no, just because it is allowed to be displayed doesn't necessarily mean it government-supported... unless you claiming we don't truly have free speech in this country.

I'm not sure why you think "free speech" guarantees someone a place on a wall. Free speech is simply that he can paint whatever he likes, doesn't mean it is appropriate for any venue. If it is not appropriate for any reason it can be taken down.

 

I didn't say it does, but it got the spot, so government officials should respect that.

 

Just because someone gave it the spot doesn't mean they were right. Mistakes happen all the time, and this was one of them. The person who keeps putting it back up should respect whats going on in todays climate with Police and ask themselves if maybe they should be hanging such things.

Fewer cops are murdered today than any time time recent history. The fact that cops are depicted as pigs indicate that the bigwigs are not doing their job in properly supervising them.

Well not quite, 2016 had more than 2015 for instance. While some years are worse than others, we can see right now that there is a lot of Tension with Police. One has to ask if today is the right time to be endorsing these dehumanizing stereotypes.

As to the bigwigs comment being responsible for them being depicted as pigs? That's pure nonsense. This "nickname" has been around forever, and has zilch to do with supervision, it's simply a derogatory term.

Right or wrong should be irrelevant if the government is truly neutral on free speech.

I just prefer allowing the people do comment on its tasteful. If it's as universally hated as claimed, I don't think it harmful.
