What's with this high morale ground? We always call for the lynching of horrendous criminals, doesn't mean we get it. It just means we let our emotions go through these harmless words. Here, let me try: He's the embodiment of evil, a lost soul to corruption and to forces beyond his control. The most merciful thing we can do ironically, is to end his life. Sooner or later, he'll comprehend the nature of what he's done, possibly as he's on the injection chair(yes, I bet he'll choose injection) and then at the last moment is when he'll feel regretful and merciful. That to me, is truly the worst way to go out and he deserves all of it.
Yes, that is what I said. No one deserves to be raped. I was quite clear on it. It was also not responding to some who said racists should be raped. - - - Updated - - - Words are harmless? A thread full of folks wishing this fellow is raped and beaten is.........harmless?
Did you hear about the prison riots in Brazil last week? Countless prisoners were murdered and had their guts and hearts ripped out and some were beheaded. Is that what you want to happen in American prisons? We have over 2 million people locked up. Do you have a limit on how many should be killed that way?
Here here, put him in a cell block that is majority black, bunking with the meanest and baddest black guy on the block, and make the rules where the guards will turn their backs as long as they keep roof alive. He will know pain and suffering.
Why is male on male rape such a fascination? Why not simply let the wheels of justice turn. The man has already been sentenced to death. Need folks lower themselves to immoral levels by wishing him sodomized?
He murdered nine innocent people, moreover he racially discriminated them in his deadly assault. Being raped and beaten is far more merciful than what he gave them.
I wish for him to suffer all the ill effects that come with being an inmate. I wish for his life to be a living hell. I don't want him to be quaratined in a single cell. There's a difference between solitary confinement and the DP cells. Confinement is worse. And while I do think it's illegal overall, it's reserved for a scumbag like him. So I'll call for 24 X 7 confinement until his death, how's that?
It's always funny when someone does something bad and the excuse for his behavior is that he did it because some evil being inside him made him do it. Everyone is one second away from being a homicidal maniac because we are predatory animals and it is our natural nature to kill. We usually condemn other people for their destructive behavior but, under the right (or wrong) circumstances, we will each do horrific deeds. Roof had no legitimate reason to murder those people. He did it simply because he wanted to do it. But now other people are eager to inflict all kinds of torture on Roof because his actions crossed their line of acceptable behavior. Thus they give in to voluntary "evil" just like Roof did.
Odd. I wish him to be kept securely and safely until his sentenced is carried out while he tasks the legal system with ensuring his guilt until such time his sentence has ended.
It is a natural reaction to the rage most of us feel. He doesn't deserve a humane death; he deserves to be beaten and tortured. It is a good thing our laws do not give in to this rage. Having said that, if he should end up dying a slow and painful death at the hands of an inmate, I won't feel bad for him. Just being honest.
Atticus, your arguments are falling on deaf ears I fear. Your "Better Angels" are better than mine. I don't worry about Mr. Root's comfort or the ease with which he transitions from life to death. Oddly what I do care about are the living, and those with a life left to be lived. I'm speaking of those incarcerated with him who might feel compelled to act where, in the years to come, we dither. It's for them I reserve compassion. Cheers
So given your statement are you saying that if you were an inmate and had access to Roof that you would inflict a slow and painful death on him with your own hands? You do realize that when a prisoner kills another person while in prison he faces the death penalty himself in States that have the death penalty. Is that another problem you would want to add to your wagon of other problems?
Reactions and thinking things through are two different things. You are right that he should be treated in accordance with our laws. You are wrong about the reactions not being natural. If these reactions were not natural, we wouldn't need laws.
I don't see myself as evil. And there's a difference from excusing an act, and justifying it. Roof would attempt to excuse his acts, but my act of retribution on Roof would be justified. Would it bring them back? No, but if every scumbag were literally tortured to death, you better believe it'd have a psychological impact on the next would-be scumbag.
In varying degrees. Yes we are all capable of violence in the heat of the moment. Our legal system takes into account "crimes of passion" and sentences accordingly. Mr. Roof is not in this category, his special category is one that very few of us are capable of attaining, ever. Cheers
They won't; they'd place him in a segregated area for his own protection. But it's all a moot point if his appeals fail.
People have made various comments about what other prisoners should do to Roof. So the question to them should be is that something they themselves would be willing to do to Roof if they themselves had access to him. Would they themselves rape him and inflict a slow and painful death on him? If not then they shouldn't want other people to do it. Do we really want American prisons to become copies of Brazilian hellholes? Why are so many people eager to toss the 8th Amendment into the trash can? "Amendment 8 - Cruel and Unusual Punishment Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted."
Buh-bye! Hook him up and then throw the switch. Hopefully S.Carolina doesn't treat their death penalty the way California does.
