    Wait...
You seriously believe a person should not shoot and kill another person in self-defense because the criminal's posse will come after you?

Evidently the intruder can break open your door and get to your bedroom in about 2 seconds. Can the cops beat that?

    They shoot the dogs.
How are you prepared to defend yourself?

    In other words you have failed to do as you claimed you would;

Where in your response did the "bad guy will super humanely overcome [my] defenses"?

Oh, right! You couldn't because my defenses are multilayered and REALISTIC as far as dealing with how criminals behave.

Your Hollywood fantasy is an illusion whereas my defenses act primarily as a DETERRENT so I never need to deal with the life threatening scenario that fuels your false sense of safety.

But your broomstick will save you?

    Ha ha ha ha

Hold on while I take a picture of myself rolling on the floor laughing

Note to others: I mention "broomstick" because she said earlier that she'd defend herself with a broomstick. I'm but implying she flies around on a broomstick.

But what if you're taking a shower when they break in and you don't hear them because you're singing too loud?

I do that sometimes. Hold on I have a picture.

You can make up all the anti gun scenarios all you want. Here is a fact.... Everyday we read about successful firearm self defense stories. You can make up all the failed scenarios all you want, but the fact remains that people successflly defend their famililes everyday with firearms like the story below that happened yesterday.

SARASOTA COUNTY -- A man fatally shot a home intruder when he was attacked by the burglar inside his own home after returning from out of town.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office says they were called the 2300 block of Constitution Blvd around 1:30 p.m. on reports of a shooting. After investigating, police say a man, identified as Glenn Edward Oliver, 30, forced his way in through a window while the family was out of town. When the homeowner and family returned, he noticed things were out of place and was then attacked by the suspect who then ran into a bedroom and grabbed a baseball bat. The homeowner used a firearm to shoot and kill the suspect.

Detectives believe the homeowner shot in self-defense and will not be facing charges at this time.

Authorities say Oliver has an extensive criminal history and was recently released from prison after a 10-year sentence for robber with a firearm and carjacking.

    EDIT...

Here is another story from four days ago, I could post these typical firearm self defense stories all day long.

REIDLAND, Ky One man is dead and another with life-threatening injuries after police say they tried to break into a Reidland home.

Police say they responded to a 911 call Saturday night, January 07, 2017 at 11:11pm concerning a shooting at a home on Stiles Road near the intersection of Babbland Drive.

Deputies say after they arrived, they found one man lying in the driveway with gunshot wounds, and another man inside with a gunshot wound deceased.

Deputies say it appears the men burglarized the home, kicking in the door. Neither of the two men shot lived in the home.

Deputies say the homeowner was home when the two men kicked in the door, and fired shots that hit the two men.

The injured man was transported by Mercy Regional EMS to a local hospital and airlifted to a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee with life-threatening injuries.

The identities of the men have not been released.

I've posted tons of these stories with videos from Youtube. You know this is an argument that you will never win with these people because they aren't interested in the truth. They just repeat untrue talking points time and time again which is why this gun argument gets so boring and old after a while. It's always the same thing over and over again.

I put a gun on my hip or in my pocket and I sit it on my nightstand when I go to bed. I don't carry into jobsites because I'm not representing myself at that time and I like my job. If you're a criminal, your target time for me is when I'm in the shower. Good luck. My sons and my dogs aren't defenseless.

I live in a great neighborhood, and I want to keep it that way. We do have wild animals in our neighborhood. Two of my neighbors have come face to face with a pack of coyotes, 4 have seen bobcats, and 2 neighbors have lost chickens to these animals. Several years ago, my dog got in a fight with a bobcat. It didn't come back, but my boxer had a huge scar on his hip. I hear coyotes hunting in the pasture behind my house every night. How do I protect my family and pets from wild animals?

Oh I thought I was talking to a PhD in Google research.

Well allow me to provide you with easily sourced information:

18,000 dead and 50,000 permanently wounded per year in Australian hospitals due to medical error: http://www.abc.net.au/worldtoday/content/2013/s3778256.htm

The problem has only gotten worse since 1995: https://www.newscientist.com/articl...-errors-are-number-three-killer-in-australia/

Problem seems to be growing: http://www.smh.com.au/national/heal...rrors-inpatient-suicides-20160203-gmksyi.html

Maybe you should be more aware of the problems in your own country before talking to us about what is primarily a gang problem in the US.

The CDC findings on DGU's is also easily sourced, but here you go:

Still waiting for her to explain how a law can prevent someone who already owns a gun from shooting themselves with it.

    That's not the funniest one.

BB has put forth the argument before that throwing dishes at an intruder pins them in place and keeps them there until the cops arrive.

    This argument smacks of pomposity.

There are good people who live in areas that don't have the financial means to just move, which can cost tens of thousands of dollars to do, on top of all the other problems associated.

No one has ever been murdered in their house thinking "yep, todays the day we all get killed, let's eat!".

Gangs and crime don't stick to one area, they have these things called legs and cars which allows them to move about.

Perhaps you could draw us this fictional map of 100% safe areas where we all can live? I'm sure the criminals will just stay in one place.

What's most disgusting about this argument is there is zero concern for anyone else.

Those of us who support the 2A think every good person should have the ability and the means to defend their lives and their loved ones, regardless of where they live or how much money they make, or what they scored on an ACT/SAT, or if they are or are not in possession of some advanced degree.

The assumption here is that people who do violent things are jailed appropriately.

In our country, they are not.

Studies in Baltimore for example show that 90% of shooters have an average of 9 prior arrests, and half of those for previous firearm offenses. 80% of the VICTIMS of gun violence have an average of 8 prior arrests.

Violent people are allowed to roam freely in this country. The government is not doing it's job to punish violent people, and to act in the safety and best interest of it's citizens.

Unless I can be certain the government can and will protect me and my family at all hours of the day, I'm going to be prepared to do it myself.

You may be comfortable trusting your life to your government, but with Germany's history (both past and present) I'd think twice about that.

So you hide in your house with, as you say, an alarm, dogs, and an armed response ready to rush to your aid? Do you have a moat? Because a moat with alligators is good in case there's a gang of bad guys.

    Hummm.. let's see...

I'm thinking the criminal gives your dogs treats to calm them down. As for your alarm, well it wakes you up but the criminal doesn't care. He just beats you to a pulp before your armed response can get there.

Does the armed response have treats for your dogs? Do they shoot the dogs or do the dogs eat the armed response?

    Edit to add:
This is fun. Give me another scenario. Something with a dragon.

1 - If i'm wide awake and roll off the bed to grab a brooms stick then you are right, i'd grab it every time - Wake me from a deep sleep however and expect me "roll out of bed and grab a broom/gun" and I'm not sure i'd be quite so accurate! - maybe i should train more often?

2 - I'm not anti gun mate - If you like owning guns then more power to you! I owned and used shot guns when i was younger and I've never had a problem with people owning guns. I'm just not convinced about the protection angle that many seem to preach. I thought most americans owned guns because they liked them.

3 - The chances are small....there are enough nukes to end the world many times over...doesn't mean i have a bomb shelter "just in case".

4 - If a guy breaks into my house, he's probably just after my TV or laptop...and, because of where i live, the thief isn't likely to be armed so, by the time I've got up, gone down stairs to see what the noise is, i expect the guy would've done a runner - If he was still in the house then i'd tackle him...but, like i said before, the odds of the thief being armed are minuscule compared to the USA because we just don't have that many guns.

    I'll address the bolded above.
2- I'm not sure why you are not convinced that people in America use their firearms in defensive uses everyday. They are publicized in local new outlets everyday.

4-Thats great that you are a strong virile individual that can beat up unarmed intruders. Here is the US, home invaders are likely to not be alone and have a buddy with them and they are almost always armed. But to use your scenario of a lone unarmed intruder, if he was to target a single woman to rape her, what do you suggest she do in this surprise attack? A slight of build woman is no match for a 225 pound man. Her firearm is her equalizer and there are many instances where this has happened and the woman has prevailed.

This is how slight of build Asian women in Georgia handle 3 guys with guns.

And yes, she nailed one of them permanently. She drives into these guys like a sledgehammer.

I wonder how the broomstick theory would have worked in this situation.

It's not guns that are the real issue, it's crime. If I lived in a country where crime was so low that people left their doors unlocked then I probably wouldn't have a gun. I live in Las Vegas, only a twenty minute walk from the Vegas strip. Crime happens here. And since I'm only five foot five and thin, a criminal won't think he needs a gun to come after me. And he probably won't be breaking in for my television. He'll have something else in mind.

    So I'll shoot him.

When the crime problem is solved to a sufficient degree then I'll use a broomstick for protection but until then, I'm keeping my guns.

And for the record I don't keep a gun for protection from armed takeover by the government, as some gun people do. I'm not criticizing their motives I'm just thinking that when I roll out of bed and grab my gun it probably won't stop the tank the army is using.

You know the rules - you make the claims you validate them. I do not do other people's homework for them

Link 1. Claim of number of medical deaths. It is an article that simply says "by some reports". No research no validation despite the fact that the claim is blatantly wrong as there IS information collection throughout all the public hospitals as well as very defined referrals to the coroner

Remember Do not confuse poor journalism with good science

The New Scientist article needs subscription the SMH article puts the number of serious incidents at 58 which is orders of magnitude less than what you alleged.

The CDC link confirms my point that your original quote was not from that report. The report does NOT say this is the number of DGUs. but simply that the numbers are controversial (not fishy) and more research is needed

You would b better learning ways to defend yourself without the gun and stop "thinking like a victim" ie believing you have less of a chance.

Are you also prepared for the consequences of shooting someone?

Why should she have to do that? She's got a gun.

The consequences of shooting an intruder are less worrisome than allowing an intruder or multiple intruders to do what they will.

Sexual assaults have risen by 50% in Australia since 1993. How would you protect yourself against a pair of 18 stone rapists?
