Hear, hear. We don't always see eye to eye on issues Bronco, but I respect your opinions on many issues. I agree with you on the American Flag.

You blaming the messenger of what goes on? How silly.
The US is already a divided nation with hate.

Neah. I'm just the messenger. Actually, you're far more part of the hate than I am. Because you claim that you aint judging people based on the color of their skin,.... but you got upset when I told you that it is ignoring how much white people around you, and maybe including you, took advantage of your own skin color with or without knowing it. You're part of that racist hate theme in the US,.. like it or not.

Thanks for confirming my opinion of you as a hater and divider. This thread is about a painting hanging in the halls of congress that is divisive, and it will be removed tomorrow.

No one is claiming the Confederate Battle flag is the American flag nor a national flag. I moved from the South to Chicago in the early 70's and was shocked at the racism and segregation I saw there. Shall we demand the state flag come down?

There is racism and segregation all across this country, but no where in the United States did the racism reach the level it did in the South.

No, I think the confederate flag was a movement laced with racism that had no good outcome. That's not to mean that the history of the folks that had positive remembrances of their southern heritage, that didn't revolve around racism or slave ownership. I went to a reunion in Alabama in 2000, and I didn't see even the hint of what I saw there in 1970 when I was in the army

Yep, there are those that want to take this to an insane level, and remove the American flag, which would be like tearing down the Coliseum in Rome because they had slaves slaughtered along with animals all for entertainment.

The greatness of the southern culture doesn't revolve around the confederate flag

So lets take down the American flag, under which slavery existed as a legal entity for over decades even after the Civil War, then and it was worse in Chicago when I moved there but since you raise it how much racism is OK then?

    - - - Updated - - -

But where I live was under that flag just as it was the British and the Spanish and the French and the Republic of Alabama.

First it is not the White House it is the Capitol Building. The Capitol Building has suitability rules for art to be displayed “exhibits depicting subjects of contemporary political controversy or a sensationalistic or gruesome nature.” are prohibited. The contest REQUIRED that any submission meeting those rules. It should never have been entered into the contest let alone selected by this Congressman who violated the rules in doing so.

A photo of Hillary in a bucket of human feces would be true art.

Racism is at has reached its lowest point in our colleges and universities. Given all the demands for Affirmative Action, for quotas, for lowering standards based on ethnicity, and worst of all for anti-White scholarships---they are as selective as Nazi concentration camps.

The painting will be removed because it violates Capitol rules, which state: "Exhibits depicting subjects of contemporary political controversy or a sensationalistic or gruesome nature are not allowed." He said after MLK Day, so I guess it will be gone for good tomorrow.

And let's hope the Congressman who displayed it will receive a reprimand for violating the rules of the contest and the building by displaying it.

I'm sure people like yourself who lived in that culture, have a much different take on the confederate flag. I would like to see a cultural history museum in the DC area that displays the history and culture good/bad of the different areas of the United States.

Perhaps we understand better that for which it is displayed and you should listen more to us, but then what culture are you speaking of? The history of our former republic and land goes FAR beyond just being a state of the United States. We are a state unique to itself with it's own history going MUCH further back than the Civil War in fact we are one of the very first lands that Europeans settled with some of the oldest history in country. Why does that history have to be edited because of a few misguided persons?

You're just cussing at the messenger. And calling names is the most poorest of poor arguments.

I doubt it. Its a Congressional Art Competition, not a presidential one. And the only thing that would be REALLY divisive is to censure the wrongs that are being committed to an ethnic community.

It was also the flag that was raised to do away with slavery, Jim Crow, etc.

How was it worse and no racism is OK.

After the Confederacy was gone a little late to the dance.

If you were black you didn't go into a white suburb and walked down the street, my first day there I saw whites riding by a black guy and turning to each other going "what's that guy doing here". It was was also ethnic with the ethnic neighborhoods. And I worked on the South Side and as a white guy got in and got out to work and back and didn't work past dark else I'd be targeted.

We in the South had moved past that. You do know the Klan was hugely active in the Midwest.

Don't you realize that the Union flag is the American flag? And we are discussing events that happened in the lifetime of people who are still living.

If our nation will eventually fall aren't you wasting your time and effort in fighting for a lost cause?

Terrible logic. Think about that a little longer and I think you will understand why.
