25 days in to the Trump Administration, and the destruction of the ACA begins in earnest
No approval needed from Congress, and - the best part - Democrats can't do a thing about it.
Trump, like Obama, has a phone and a pen.

    Gutted. Buh bye.

What the average Joe on the street was never aware of, as long as you never overpaid your taxes, there was nothing the IRS could do. They can't lien your assets for failure to have healthcare, they can only send a notice that says you owe the penalty. That's it. It's a paper tiger that can't ever be enforced. The only thing they could do is reduce a refund check by the amount of the penalty. That's it. That's the way the law was written. As long as this "mandate" is in place, use this knowledge to your advantage if you don't currently have medical coverage.

Rand Paul, Sept. 25: That is what I think the senator from Texas has started, hopefully a rebellion against coercion, rebellion against mandates, a rebellion against everything that says that big government wants to shove something down your throat, they say take it or we will put people in jail. People say we aren’t going to put anybody in jail. The heck they won’t. You will get fined first. If you don’t pay your fines, you will go to jail.

A government health care mess, thanks to Nancy Pelosi and Chris Murphy. 500 billion in Medicare cuts. Free health care for illegal immigrants. Thousands of new IRS agents. Jail time for anyone without coverage

If you didn't have a refund coming back, they legally can't enforce the fine. I'm going to guess you overpaid your 2016 taxes and had a refund coming. They can do that. It's probably a moot point now, but the way to circumvent it is to put more allowances on your W-4 than you really have. That way you'll always owe a little. Then you just pay what you owe, ACA penalty not included. I don't pay anyone to do my taxes, but I would have scrutinized their work and refuse to pay H&R until they corrected it. Below is an excerpt and link. I hate using an AOL link, but just too lazy to locate and copy the code from the IRS website.

Well I didn't vote for Rand and he's not in my state, so I don't care what he says. When the ACA was first put in place, Obama promised to hire thousands of new IRS agents to mandate this abortion of a law. Whether they actually did or not, I do not know. Trump has promised to cut federal agencies across the board including the IRS. We shall see. He's only been in office less than a month so give him time.:clapping:

    >>>MOD EDIT Flamebait Removed<<<

You do know that almost no one pays a penalty under the law? A single person earning $75k would pay a penalty of ZERO. A married couple earning $140K ZERO.

All this has done is make it easier for the IRS to process returns for people who, mistakenly or not, fail to answer the question.

No, it is the Congress' inability to come to terms with "repeal/replace/repair" and the insurers saying, we can't deal with this uncertainty that is causing insurers to leave the marketplace.

But, when that happens and rates go through the roof and people can't get insurance it will happen with a Republican president and a Republican congress. Good luck with that.

Good. Because I refuse to buy someone else's healthcare when I can't afford my own. I always say I was insured the previous tax year.

Never heard that one. Methinks you got bad information from your news sources.

Total BS. My accountant accidentally entered only 9 months worth of my wife's coverage from last year instead of the whole 12 months and the penalty would have been approximately $1100. We would have paid a fraction of that, but at no point was it ever going to be "zero".

This is what happens when you get your news from left-wing fake news sites.

I'm sure in Obamaland, the rich white progressive elite are surrounded by exemptions. That might give someone the impression that there is no real penalty to be paid.

I think you are right, I should claim a bunch of dependents and then pay my taxes rather than look forward to getting my money back..

They way overtaxed me because I made silly money last spring and then retired until this coming spring :)
I got 3/4 of my taxes back..

You provided a citation of one person making the statement; your claim is that Republicans lied.
Do you really believe your evidence supports the full breadth of your claim?
