Ok, I'll give you that,But,here's the question---when Sessions was asked in his confirmation hearing & in news reports if there was any contact with the russian's during the 2016 campaign---Sessions said -----NO---- He lied under oath--- If there were regular communications with foreign ambassadors & Senators, why didn't he just say --Yes---?
Go back & check some history-----Sessions said about Bill Clinton " Clinton lied under oath, he should resign"------Oh, the irony of words coming back to bite you----

A sworn witness is *always* told by their lawyer to answer the question posed and to not volunteer information that is not part of the question.

Sessions was *NOT* evasive. He told Franken "I am unable to comment on it". This is no different than a candidate for a Supreme Court justice refusing to comment on a potential case that might come before the court. You don't comment on hypotheticals that might come before you. That would indicate bias requiring recusal for either position.

I bet you didn't know that Sessions said he can't comment did you? Not a single one of the LeftStreamMedia has included that in any of the video clips they've shown!

This is the nub of the dispute, whether his statement was effectively qualified by the context in which it was made.

In terms of perjury, which is a criminal offence and therefore must be above "reasonable doubt" that it was wilful, and I think there is adequate doubt that a criminal convinction would not be successful.

In terms of suitability to hold the office of AG, the "incompetent idiot" defence is not effective: he is clearly incapable of appreciating the public accountability and stature of the position to hold it and he should resign.

    IMO

So, the question that came to my mind, what was a Russian ambassador doing at one of the trump rallies?

    Here is the exchange:
Franken: "If there is any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of this campaign what will you do?" (bolding mine, upside)
Sessions: "I am not aware of any of those activities. I have been called a surrogate a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians. I am unable to comment on it."

What did he lie about? Franken asked about communications during the CAMPAIGN, not about actions of Sessions' as part of the Armed Forces committee!

He did not lie and he did not obfuscate.

This is nothing more than FALSE NEWS from the Marxist Democrats and the LSM.

If you want to whine about something then whine to Al Franken about his inability to ask questions in a confirmation hearing!

    - - - Updated - - -

Nah! All Sessions will have to do is recuse himself and let a Deputy AG lead the investigation.

    - - - Updated - - -

Apparently there was a group of five or more Ambassadors involved. What were they *all* doing there? Exactly what they did -- meet and greet!

It's pretty hard to read "in the course of this campaign" in any context other than as being in the course of the campaign!

That doesn't include meetings as part his responsibilities as a Senator. Sessions met with over 20 Ambassadors in 2016. Where *they* all about the campaign? If not then why would the Russian ambassador meeting be any different?

I think what Franken was sniffing out is did he speak to the Russians for the Trump team.

Sessions and the rest of congress discuss things with other nations ambassadors all the time. Paul Ryan says he met with a hundred last year. If he only met with 99, should Ryan resign?

We are well aware there is a witch hunt going on. That the Obama team are following directions to the letter. Too bad they are in destroy mode.

I rank the "lie" of Sessions up there with the Obama lies you can keep your doctor and you can keep your health plan and your costs will fall by $2500 per year.

    - - - Updated - - -

See, you are correctly analyzing this. This is a lot of noise on the part of the Democrats. They are acting as if they as congressmen always tell the truth. That amuses me.

There is a big difference in the political meaning of Marxism and those who call themselves Marxists as with all political and economic theory.
The majority of American Democrats are not even socialists and are far from any Marxist dictates. You can’t pretend to have socialist values and take money from those vested interests, while you, as a socialist, would be seeking to contain.

You constantly throw meaningless words i.e. Socialist, Marxist at anything which doesn’t fit within your ultra right wing views, and that is so juvenile.

There was no dishonesty by Sessions.

"If there is any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of this campaign what will you do?" (bolding mine, upside)

"I am not aware of any of those activities. I have been called a surrogate a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians. I am unable to comment on it." (bolding mine, upside)

Franken asked about communications "in the course of this campaign", not about in the course of exercising the responsibilities of Sessons' Senate office.

The only dishonesty here are the McCarthy tactics being used by the Marxist Democrats!

Did I seek that Obama resign from office? Well nope.

In Sessions case, since the man is a very skilled lawyer, I have full confidence that he understands words, the use of words and the legal ramifications.

To meet as a Senator with ambassadors does not trouble me in the least. Franken got his answer. Sessions informed him he did not speak to the Russians for the Trump team. We all know that is what he meant. Franken is a decent comedian and not so swell senator.

Just love it when you identify the Obama administration as such. Everyone forget the Russian invasion of Georgia, the Ukraine and the talks Obama had with Russian leaders both on and off the record, even with or without hot microphones.

Lol, he didn't even lie. He was never part of the Trump campaign, he was doing his job as a senator. Grasping at straws aren't we?

These out of control, destructive Americans have no right to complain about the treatment of the Obama Administration. Since Nov 8, 2016 their sole mission has been to undermine and destroy the Federal Government and even so far as to slander nominees just because they don't have any real reason to deny their confirmation. Apparently we are led to believe their private earnings alone make them unsuitable for the position.

Compared to their behavior, "you lie" might as well be standard congressional procedure. They are now worse than Donald. J. Trump to a handful of their fellow American brethren, I wonder if they recognize that.

No, he said he didn't communicate with the Russians as a member of the Trump Organization which is very important distinction. Hell, this isn't even law speak.Sessions actually answered very plainly and honestly. You have the Justice Department ITSELF verifying what anyone can read from HIS OWN statements.

This is slander, and I'd be just as outraged if Republicans slandered a Democratic nominee. I thought you were "stronger together" and "better than Trump" or was that a lie too?

He didn't say as a member of the Trump organization. Here again:

Franken: CNN just published a story alleging that the intelligence community provided documents to the president-elect last week, that included information that “Russian operatives claim to have compromising personal and financial information about Mr. Trump.” These documents also allegedly say “there was a continuing exchange of information during the campaign between Trump surrogates and intermediaries for the Russian government.” Again, I’m telling you this as it’s coming out, so you know. But if it’s true, it’s obviously extremely serious, and if there is any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of this campaign, what will you do?

Sessions: Senator Franken, I’m not aware of any of those activities. I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians, and I’m unable to comment on it.

    Franken: Very well.

Why do you righties insist on spinning this into a question of such discussions being common? Yes elected officials talk to foreign ambassadors. That is not the issue. You want to pretend it is. Why? -because it's the only way you can see a "win" in this, even if it's just another right wing spin and lie. It's not the issue.

The issue is that Sessions, under oath, told Congress he did not speak to Russians before, during, or after the campaign. Now we se that was a lie. That is the issue. ... He lied to Congress while under oath.

Is it serious? Yes. Sessions is the top law enforcement officer in the nation today, and that top enforcement officer lied to Congress under oath. He cannot be trusted to carry out his duties as A.G. lawfully, honestly, objectively, and without bias. You on the right impeached Clinton for a less serious lie. Yet you want to ignore and dismiss this far more important one? LOL!!!

President? This is about the A.G. "Traitorous"? Is it "traitorous" to oppose lying to Congress under oath, or is the person who broke the law and so lied actually the traitor?

Again, the right struggles to spin the facts and truth.

You said the words, not me. During the campaign.

Sessions was not campaigning. Sessions in talking to ambassadors did so as a Senator.

Had he been asked if he had spoken to ambassadors, I believe Sessions would have said yes he did.

What puzzles me a lot is back when Clinton got impeached, he gave to congress in writing a sworn deposition having the penalty of perjury attached. Clinton, then himself an attorney, told lies in the document. Democrats defended Clinton to their dying breaths. I see a lot of hypocrisy in the chants to get rid of Sessions. Since when have Democrats preached to be honest? Not when Obama was president. We can ask posters to see who recalls democrats preaching honesty to the forum.

    That isn't what Sessions said.

Do you think if he was acting as a prosecutor he would buy that line of crap? No way!!!

He met with Russia's number 1 spy at the GOP convention. Now isn't THAT interesting!
