It seems to me a solution is rather simple. These people obviously want their drug of choice to the point of committing crimes to get money for more, destroying their health and future, and causing much pain to everyone around them to do so. My suggestion would be to replace Narcam injections with the heroine they so desire eliminating the societal cancer instead of helping it grow by saving these people from an overdose so they can do it all over again.

    Is this a Good Idea?

I think "Tecoyah" is on to something....if you call me and say your are going to kill yourself, I will tell you to have at it....a human being is the only animal on this planet that knows it can kill its self......So, if your stupid enough to do it, its your life use it anyway you want. Parental guidance is the only answer to drug abuse, no laws, no cute quotes, no money etc...and most of the low income families are caught up in this squalor....its a shame, but welfare has been around since the beginning of time...we live in a world of "haves, and have nots"....

Yes, medical professionals should make moral judgements of the patients they're presented with and actively kill any they deem socially irredeemable. Heck, why limit it to medics? If I think your lack of morality is so bad that it has major negative impacts on you and the people around you, why shouldn’t I just put you out of your misery?

Every heroin addict who volunteered to start using this highly dangerous and addictive drug, can only blame themselves. Most will die in 10 years.

A better strategy would be prevention. Our youth have not been properly warned. There should be better advertising and education both in public schools and in the media. Instead of ads just showing the physical effects of narcotics, ads should also focus on the death and misery from narcotics abuse. I would love to see an ad where drug & gang leaders are shown thanking their users while they are doing their drugs and having the users watch as the gangsters execute cops, do drive-by shootings on family homes, and blow-up American troops in the Mid-East. This "Thank You for Using Drugs" ad would be very effective.

I think we should give them high paying jobs and force them to adopt a child. That way, they'll be way too busy to do drugs.

That might work if you force them to show up to work and care for their kids at gunpoint every day.

Education and warnings aren't effective with all people. Look at smokers - they choose to do it despite knowing its ill effects, or at least being told about them and shown pictures and such. People just aren't that rational, in the end. They go for emotional satisfaction and rationalize their choices accordingly. They act impulsively even being aware of the dangers, just as people with eating disorders do.

Quality of life will help many, though. Having something to live for, having hope, having a good upbringing.. There are many problems that just aren't at all easy to address, especially when we're talking about blanket approaches taken by governments.

Privatize education and eliminate public schools. Education should be a contract between the school and the parents, not an information diet provided by the government.

We could learn quite a bit from Portugal in regards to hard drug addiction. But since it doesn't imprison people exercising the right to be stupid, we never educate ourselves in a reality that contradicts the reality that an ideological belief creates. When it comes to drugs, the ideological belief says to hell with what would work the best, I believe drug use is wrong, a sin, an evil, and people who indulge in this sin, this great evil should be in jail. And many times this is said as they sip on an alcoholic drink.

The best and most intelligent manner in which to address drug abuse is education, realistic education, honest education, so the youth cannot suspect it as a ploy to take away their fun and experimentation. Anti smoking ads and education has cut down on cigarette smoking exponentially. If you live in the heyday of smoking like I did, it is quite obvious the rate has dropped in a big way.

I agree. The Dept of Education needs to go into the dustbin---with all Fed control.

I am for very limited state control of public schools, and then all public schools should both taxed and administered by the local communities.

Yep, boot the fed out of the classroom and to the curb. Reduce the taxes to offset shedding education from the government control. Allow private schools and home schooling to flourish. Give parents a choice where to invest their educational needs. If people of the various states approve of public schools at the state or local levels, that's their prerogative.

Yes, do away with public schools so we can increase the already huge population of incredibly stupid Americans. Then, we'll be certain to vote into the presidency people even more slimy, horrible, and, unfit, than Putin's Lap Dog, trump.

(If it's even possible to find a person more slimy, horrible, and, unfit, than trump, that is).

Yes, it's a great idea. We shouldn't keep these good folks from killing themselves if that's what they want to do. And we should stop wasting tax dollars on rehab programs that rarely seem to work. Maybe we can talk the worthless college snowflakes who constantly demand more free stuff: safe spaces, segregated living quarters, into joining this effort. Then we can get rid of all of these losers at once. Build trump's wall around them and let them go at it. Good riddance.

Perhaps the united states has reached the point where it is time to consider such a course of action.

Perhaps instead of trying to prohibit illicit substances from the public, government should instead step back and allow nature to take its course. Allow everyone who wishes to indulge in cocaine, heroin and various other substances to do so, and drop dead from overdoses on tainted drugs. Allow the body count to reach the hundreds of thousands, leaving the deceased to lay in the streets, on sidewalks, back alleys and rain gutters where they fall. Allow their decomposing and soiled corpses to rot where everyone in the public can see them, and know for themselves what the cost of illicit substances is to society. Let the dead lay on the pavement in a public demonstration of the dangers of what the people want, showing that the death awaiting anyone who wishes to try heroin is unattractive.

Eventually the matter of heroin addiction will solve itself under such a plan, because everyone wishing to try it will be dead, and there will be no one left wishing to experiment with it or any other such substance. Their families will be ripped asunder by their selfish idiocy, leaving the survivors to advocate against engaging in such activities, and speaking as a voice of reason and experience as to the danger posed.

Saving lives sometimes means ending lives. Not every single individual can be saved from their own destructive impulses, that is a mere fact of life.

Narcam Is a good idea for saving lives, but obviously many think that saving lives of heroin addicts is not a good idea

So with that, the thread poll options represent overgeneralizations.

The fact of education regarding addictions needs to be taught has been brought up. Good point.

However, mental health care that can actually address the obvious self destructive aspects of addictions is a far greater need. Alcoholics are actually a far bigger problem and that sh*t is legal! And there is no cure for it either.

Psychology is deprived of the societal approval needed to work directly with the unconscious mind. It's a church/state thing that academia is saddled with, but we all bear the burden of separating church from state or suffering the consequences.

Hence the suggestion of the united states government adopting a hands off approach to the use of illicit substances such as heroin, and allowing the matter to simply run its course as if it were nothing more than a disease. There are those that will die, but that is unavoidable.

Hmm, seems its going to cause an undue health hazard, while still, mental health care for perfectly lawful people simply suffering from disorders is neglected. This, because government is unlawful and allows unlawful behaviors from authority.

Sheriff fails to appear on subpoena implicating county counsel in civil rights violation of interfering with the appearance of a witness. The records subpoenaed were int he possession of the county one year earlier. I have a declaration from a citizen who saw them. This is how I knew of the records to subpoena them.

The doctors were trying to do the right thing and provided a letter showing it.

Note that this was submitted twice. The first time on April 18, 2000 it was "disappeared" from the clerk of the boards records. Someone at a high level has a key to the records room and is compelled to remove any record that exposes unlawfulness causing massive injury to the residents of the county.

The very existence and use of such illicit substances, and even certain legal substances, poses an undue health hazard in and of itself.

What is the relevance of such?

Which has never been disputed. But ultimately what relevance does it have pertaining to matters of how to address the epidemic of illicit substances in the united states?

They wanna drive a car under the influence, it is my business.

Which does not diminish the health hazard of rotting corpses lying around.

Creating a health hazard with rotting corpse. Lying around adds to the existing problems of mental health outside of drug abuse.

By creating effective mental health care there are less corpses and the people naturally suffering from mental disorders find relief making a safer and healthier world.

    Why not support that?

Allowing authority to set examples of behavior that are unlawful encourages violations of the law.

Eliminating public schools is a bad idea. Without them, you will have an even greater divide between those who have a basic education and those who do not. Illiteracy will skyrocket and become a bigger issue than it already is.

The cell phone has made public schools irrelevant and unnecessary.
