It is not possible to mix cultures or religions without serious unrest eventually resulting. It would be only a matter of time.
Even though America was built on that and has been doing fine since then. Even if you take Islam out of the equation, we've still got different branches of Christianity, Jews, Sikhs, Agnostics, Hindus, etc.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/islam/history/spain_1.shtml Perhaps an unbiased view is in order. That is of course assuming biased people want to read it.
You can always ask them and find out. In any case they've been living here for a long time without causing chaos, so obviously mixing them together isn't a problem.
I wrote "judge by the majority, not the minority". The problem is the majority of Muslims concider western culture immoral and decadent. How can we live with them?
No you didn’t. If that was what you meant you worded it poorly and you’d still be wrong. The point is that we should be judging individuals on their own merits, not presuming on the basis of selective categories they’re members of. What is your basis for saying the majority of Muslims believe that (more than anyone else does – I’m not religious and I think there are elements of modern society that are immoral and decadent)? How does people having different views on society make it impossible to live with them? We’d all be very lonely if that was the case.
The first crusade happened 457 years after Muslims conquered Jerusalem, 453 years after Muslims conquered Egypt, 443 years after Muslims plundered Italy, 380 years after Muslims invaded Spain, 363 years after Muslims invaded France and 249 years after Muslims plundered Rome. Since Mahomet until the first crusade, Muslims invaded and plundered 2/3 of the Christian world. Your post makes it seem as if the Inquisition (or the earlier cursades) was an act of violence against the peaceful Muslim world! Shame...
Whatever. May be I didn't worded it right. Yes, we should judge individuals ...well, individually... however who feels good whenever skinheads or bullies are around? He you go a bunch of statistics to read. The Sharia section is particularly interesting. http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/pages/articles/opinion-polls.aspx
All Muslims wanting in America, should be screened. They must be on record for stating that they will respect and obey US Law, and not Sharia Law. Islam is first and foremost a political system, and a religion secondarily.
Almost distractingly interesting. What is your basis for saying the majority of Muslims consider western culture immoral and decadent?
Well, the majority of Muslims wants their Sharia law, wich law is in direct contadiction with modern western societies and liberties. They would rather stone gays to death than allow SSM, for example. Would you finaly agree?
The problem is not Muslim "people" themselves... no, the problem is ISLAM itself, in the 21st-century! Look. A Muslim might be an ordinary person, but if he believes in a religion that commands him to commit acts of violence, torture and murder on anybody else that his priesthood and "holy book" consider to be "infidels", then that is a real problem. Especially if this is something that is commanded of him and all others of this religion in the 21st-century! Judaism, Christianity, and even Hinduism, and Buddhism have had very violent histories dating back hundreds, or even thousands of years ago! But of all major religions, only ONE preaches active violence, torture, and murder on "unbelievers" today -- and that religion is ISLAM. Can Islam itself be changed so thoroughly that these toxic commandments are no longer part of it? If not, it should be banned from this country as an obvious "clear and present danger" which is inimical to every founding principle that the United States has stood for since our creation. And ultimately, as we go forward into our future together as a species, Islam must change completely, or, it must be removed from human experience.... I'm not in the business of thought crimes. Neither is my country. Those who think we should be are just as anti-American values as the Muslims the criticize.
I didn't say anything about thought crimes. Supporting violent extremism can be carrying an ISIS flag, making a threatening sign, preaching violence and intolerance.
There are millions of Muslims in this country. Where are the millions of ISIS flags, millions of threatening signs and millions preaching violence? As far as intolerance goes, it is a nuisance, but little more. If we are going to kick people out of the country for intolerance, I don't think we'll have enough boats.
We already do live with them. Conservative Christians think that Western Culture is immoral and decadent as well. Again, we aren't in the business of thought crimes.
