Freedom fighters. Ha! Nearly half their population in ****ing chains, and they were fighting for FREEEEEEDOM. Freedom to extend and expand human trafficking -- ownership of humans as farm animals. Auction block chattel. For generation upon generation upon generation. Holy crap. Listen to this garbage. "And as for the slaves.... history has shown that they have never had it so good as when plantation owners cared for their wellbeing as treasured possessions.... like a good horse." Ladies and gents ^ Your true dedicated conservative slavery apologist. Good lord. How sickening.
you don't have a problem with others paying a higher tax rate than you or government taking over the healthcare industry so you can have access to other people's labor. If you can approve of the state sanctioned removal of peoples productivity, why don't you approve of slavery too? You like to pick and choose who's labor can be taken ?
But you don't pay the highest rate, as you like getting stuff taken from others to be used for your benefit.
It was written into the Constitution. And there were no black citizens until the 14th Amendment went into effect. Per the Constitution the States could bar slavery within their borders but they had to return escaped slaves to slavery.
Is your search engine broken? It is my understanding the so-called president brought up the Civil War.
Not only are you wrong but you're using the old "deficient in reading comprehension" line. Don't you get tired of repeating a B.S. line that's been used for over 15 years on this forum
And there it is, Professor In Chief of all that it is Butthurt here to put salve on the Dimtards wounds. You are a special kind of Florence Nightingale. Kudos. Edit: this was intended for frowning clown, the cellulitis between the loins of the Skankipotimus.
no, but I don't ask billionaires to pay a higher rate than anyone else. You on the other hand desire the products of other people's labor forcibly removed and given to you.
I think y'all are confused about history. The civil war didn't just happen over night, people saw it coming for decades, just like Europeans saw WW1 coming for decades and fled to the United States. And honestly, kinda like now.
I think your Orange nemesis knows more than you think he does. He loves the smell of bacon and burning napalm with just a "hint" of singed liberal asses over the grill. Good morning Vietnam, how would you like your flak jack's cooked? Well done or with a cattle prod on the tender side?
These idiots think the war started with Lincoln. Andrew Jackson saw it coming. There's a thread dedicated to it thanks to the leftards.
When I see you post I think of left handed guitarists and full blown drugged out minds playing Purple Haze in their brains. We'll just give you a pass.
The civil was about money. Pretty much everything is about money. Think about this for a moment. What did the north have? Factories. What did they have to pay their workers? Money. What did the south have? Plantations. What did they have to pay their workers? Nothing. What happens when the south starts building factories, and using slaves to work them? Will the north be able to compete with their prices? That's why the civil war was fought.
Insightful. The war started 30 wars BEFORE it began . It's almost like today. Time to chainsaw CA off the US and set adrift. Maybe it will settle in Mexico or Russia. They don't have a gulf stream so which way will it drift?
That is not a compelling argument. There are ample credible contrarian arguments which take Lincoln to task for his Hamiltonian support of large and centralized Government, and who point out extensive evidence of Lincoln's manipulation of Southern States and the strawman of slavery in order to simply enforce the power of Washington DC over the States. And - again - Trump's statement wasn't stupid. The Civil War didn't erupt from ether. The conflict had been building for over 20 years, and Andrew Jackson wasn't ignorant to the growing unrest and dischord. He saw the problem, and that's the extent to which Trump commented upon it. Extrapolating that into something it isn't doesn't make him stupid; it makes those attempting to continue their insipid identity politics assassination attempts stupid.
I am not going to get on Donald Trump for every mispoken statement he makes. First of all, it will be a very long 4 years if I do, second of all it is just clear that there is something weird in his brain that makes him incapable of speaking in gramatically correct sentences and his incapacity to sheperd words into coherent thoughts makes him more liable than pretty much anyone I have ever heard speak to come up with these misspeaks; third of all focusing on these stupid idiosincracies on his part detracts from focusing on the big picture. HOWEVER, anyone trying to defend Trump on this and other such misspeaks on his part with anything else then "hey. the dude gets real mixed up with words. But I get the jist of it" (and i'm being kind here) or as Kellyanne Conway said "don't listen to what his mouth says, but what his heart says" really needs to think hard about his intellectual honesty. You are defending Trump here by assuming that he has extensive knowledge of the civil war because of the high school he went to? This is based on taking, at best, what -an extra semester or year of US history - more than 50 years ago? Just be honest: he got mixed up in his thought or words like he has done repeatedly, and will do so in the future. Some people may make a big deal out of it, some people may think it's nothing. But let's not fool ourselves into justifying every time he stumbles with his mouth, otherwise it will a long four years for you as well.
Slavery isn't a strawman. Slaves were the single biggest economic asset in the country at the time, and slaves were approaching near half the population, and was the literal blood engine that ran their economy. You said: "MANY people hold the opinion that Lincoln sought out the Civil War.'" No, they would be wrong. The people that sought out the war were the Southerners who would not abide with a republican president. Any republican being elected would be the last straw, and a threat to their human-bondage loving way of life. They said so, four years earlier, when the first Republican was on the presidential ballot. Fremont lost (but not by that much, the KnowNothings split the ballot). If Fremont had won -- the Civil War would have started in 1857.
Free labor has always been far more cost effective than slave labor - until recently. "In 1850, the cost of a slave (in today’s dollars) was $40,000. In modern slavery, the price of a slave in $30." "Slavery is not dead, just less recognizable." "Today, 27 million people are enslaved, more than at the height of the transatlantic slave trade."
