Sorry to off-topic so early in the thread ( ) but what's 'supper', and at roughly what time do you indulge?

Isn't 'supper' the same as 'dinner'? In other words, the meal you have later, after lunch? Breakfast, lunch, supper, sleep, repeat.

    I think.

Canned spinach evokes a gag reflex from me.

I saw a show on TV a while ago filmed in East Asia somewhere, maybe Japan. People went to dinner, and they were served seafood that was still alive. Yes, alive!

The list is long, and it revolves around stuff that I don't have much control over.
Frozen or canned veg. Who cleaned it?
Hot dogs or other sausage? What are their standards and what is in it?
    Farm raised fish. Yuk.
Eggs from other than a small local farm.
    Some cheeses, esp blue cheese.
The list goes on, lol. Picky eater, sorry.

Actually, I'm not a fan of British versions of food in general, tbh... I mean, it sucks compared to the NL or US counterparts I've had.

Case and points; what the UK calls a doughnut tastes and feels like a very bread like cake.
In the NL, it's some sort of layered deal.
in the US, it's almost like a ball of filling and a thin doughnut crust (and they're called donuts)..

In the NL, a store bought sandwich is okay, in the US, sandwiches are bigger, and held together with toothpicks (Applebee's)..
I swear to God last year June, this sandwich I bought upon my return to the UK from Amsterdam, tasted like a vacuum cleaner in comparison... There was nothing wrong with, it was just British.
The food in the UK looks the same, but, no, British food in general sucks.

I do prefer British confectionery compared to American, but, Dutch Chocolate is alright, I don't know which one's better (probably the Dutch one) (less waxy than the UK chocolate). I love the American ice cream cakes though.
NL has the best salty snacks followed by the UK imo, American is alright I guess. That multi snack box thing sort of confused me.
Not a fan of Chips Ahoy! I prefer Maryland Cookies from the UK. IDK about Dutch ones tbh.

As Ritter mentioned supper is an informal evening meal. We eat between 6 and 7.

It can be confusing because sometimes the six o clock meal might be called dinner if it's a more grand event with guests. While dinner can still be referred to the mid afternoon meal as well...or informally lunch. My grandparents understood and used the nuances

    I wasn't too crazy about this Indonesian/Surinamese fusion place I went to in Amsterdam once;
Give me Chinese, Japanese or Jamaican dishes any day, compared to what I had in Tokoman.

Why? It is pretty much tasteless and only needs some help from shrimp salad or chilli or something like that. Or you can just turn it into a guaccamole. Yummy.

    What's wrong with you?

I would like to add rose water to the list - Reaaaally sweet and just has a taste that I cannot take. Ugh.

Never had canned spinach, but I generally like spinach. However, spinach stew is one of those things I just can't stand. :puke:

Yeah. I saw this on 1000 Ways To Die (lol); A Korean father did not like his daughter's bf so he tried to scare him away and gross him out by inviting him for dinner, serving the most obscure of Korean foods. One of the dishes was alive octopus(!!!) and as he swallowed it, it strangled him from the inside, causing him to suffocate.

    Really, mr.
Mangos are one of my favourite fruits, the most sweetest, juicest fruits out there, I prefer fresh mango to grapes, naval oranges and pineapple rings in their own juice in a can... Mangos are really really good, tastes better than watermelon too.

Melons and Grapefuit, not for me.

Avocado's texture is, not for me.
Almonds and Cashews, there could very well be something wrong with me as I've a sneaking suspicion that I'm allergic to them; Twice I've had those naked (unsalted, unroasted, like health food market style).. and both times (like two years a part) I was as sick as a dog vomiting the next day calling my GP about food poising symptoms... Even those cashews that were all salty and spicy, didn't make me as sick as that unsalted health food mix, but it wasn't exactly a party either...
I like nuts; hazelnuts, walnuts, Brazil nuts, pecan nuts & even though it's not a nut? - peanuts.
But almonds, no, and cashews too.
I'm not sure how I feel about marzipan, I'm not sick every time I have an almond or cashew... but every time I've been sick like that in my adult life, I was eating those health food almonds and cashews; also has raisins in it; but I'm okay with raisins.

That's how I feel about Fresh Mangos and Chicken meat (probably not together though)...
But, you ever tried a real mango? j/k, I'm sorry - I just can't believe you hate mango... You peel it, eat it, chew the fruit from that big seed, but, it's so juicy but not at all like citrus fruits; and it's so sweet too... (making me want to buy some now because my Tesco sells them because my Tesco has setion in fruit and veg for mangos, pineapples, coconuts and other tropical fruits).

Pistachios, they're... A grey area for me, probably like the cashew, in that, those green little salty nuts/pistachios, if I ate them, I'd probably like it, but not love it, and I'd probably end up, if I ever binged on them, sick; they're okay, but I'm thinking about cashews and almonds with pistachios and, not for me.
There was this Indian ice cream with Pistachio and Saffron, my Tesco also has an Asian frozen food section.; found this

Mango literally tastes like poop. A horrible fruit that ought never to be brought to the northern hemisphere. :p

    You are nuts (ba-dum-tsh), m8. :)

Are you sure we're talking about the same fruit? lol, sorry.
Are you sure your mango were ripe and not rotten?

    Also, I don't like plantain.
I don't like plantain chips (crisps made out of plantain but the packet says plantain chips)..
I don't particularly like cooked plantain.
I'd taste it, but me, I could eat it, but I'd eat it to not be rude if ever someone wanted me to eat plantain, but for me and my pallet...
    Not for me.
Plantain's a popular side dish here, just, not for me.

Yup. Also had mango juice from the local "Paki store" and same thing there; it tasted like poop.

    Banana?

FTFY.. (I don't want to presume you had a Rubicon, but, was it a Rubicon)?

Banana to me, fall under the 'normal fruits' though I don't have banana trees in London, we have banana, grapes, a whole variety of apples, plums in the UK look different than plums I bought in Amsterdam, so different in fact, my Bulgarian born friend had to tell me it was a plum when I showed them this new fruit I bought, in 2015, when I went native with my eating/first time in the NL/Amsterdam; 2016 I found things I knew from the UK as well as going back to the Dutch things I liked from 2015 and opening my eyes to the place and seeing Chocomel everywhere, I tried Chocomel for the first time, was awesome, loved it, took some back to the UK with; and found I had a much better time and thanked Amsterdam for being another world city where a Brit like me can do that; I like Amsterdam.

Speaking of banana.. When I had that store bought sandwhich from Albert Heijn (where I did all grocery shopping); I had a banana, ham and cheese sandwich (except tasted better because it wasn't British).. and a bottle of water.

I don't rate pears much. They're okay, but, I prefer apples.

What I meant was if "plantain" is the same as banana? I love bananas, undoubtedly one of the best fruits if not the best. However, I never understood why people put banana and other fruits in food; that's just weird an totally misplaced. I guess it is bareble though.

    Oh yeah... You're right...

They look like bananas, but bigger...

Pity they don't taste like bananas....
I've had cooked banana before in a dish called Kashmir from Pakistani cuisine (in Thornton Heath)..
That was gross, too much banana with my Chicken in that Chicken Kashmir, Sweden do Banana Pizza so I hear.
You can't eat a plantain raw, it has to be cooked.
But... It doesn't taste like a banana, it doesn't feel like a banana in texture... It's a little like sweet potato but it's not sweet potato. That's plantain... Only - I like sweet potato. I'm not sure I've eaten yam before, I see yams in small grocery shops and maybe the odd yam in Tesco. Yams are expensive in England though.

I've never eaten artichoke before, I imagine it tastes like asparagus.
