I have started ignoring the teenagers and nuts. I forget who is who and end up reading posts that are just a waste of my time. I really don't care what a 13 yo thinks... or some guy who is howling at the moon. I've been posting online since 2000 and this is the first time I've used the ignore feature on any forum.
As I said, ""I guess since I'm retired that split second it takes to scroll past a post is not an issue."" ...and I have found that some posters put other posters on ignore when their back's against the wall and they can't present facts to refute the other poster's post....that's cowardly.
I've found that some posters want to put other posters on ignore because they couldn't refute what the other poster posted....that's cowardice.
That may be true, but many posters here are just nuts. It is like having people from an insane asylum yelling at you. After awhile it gets annoying.
In regards to ignoring, there is no real difference between putting someone on ignore, and simply ignoring them by scrolling through. The sentiment is the same. My thoughts as well.
I have zero people on ignore. I believe the vast majority of people saying things on the internet, and in real life, are a bunch of glue huffers, and their opinions mean little to me. At the most, I scan posts as a way to take the pulse of groups of people. The left is a very sick patient lately.
Zero. I wouldn't visit an anonymous public discussion forum if I couldn't cope with reading things I don't like.
Maybe , but some people really have a need to not only announce an 'ignore" but need it to escape......
I love the Ignore feature, especially on the new forum software. It’s the best way to clean up threads so you don’t have to deal with the same BS from the same people over and over. And this software doesn’t even show the Iggie poster’s name or that they posted a message. It completely disappears them. Fantastic! These are the kind of posters who make it onto my Iggie list: • I hate scrolling through loads of images, and certain people load their threads with them. • Someone who focuses on one unimportant sentence in one of your posts, and goes on to rag about it in countless replies. They just can’t let something go. • People who have no sense of humor and threaten to report you to the Mods because they don’t like one of your jokes. • Then there was a person I recently put on my Iggie list who posted well over a dozen messages to one particular thread. Each post had only one line. All were worthless. • Then there are the posters who are arrogant and pompous. They write their posts in the most condescending language imaginable. Sorry, off to the Iggie list, c0cksucker. • I’m going to start adding posters who use very large, bold, fonts. Apparently they believe making their post an eyesore will also get more people to take their messages seriously. Wrong... Maybe I’m just getting old and short-tempered, but I don’t have patience for the kinds of posters I just mentioned. The Ignore feature cleans up the threads and makes it easier to navigate quickly to the good stuff. I’ve lurked at two other forums for some time. If I ever join them, I already know several irritating people who will immediately populate my new Ignore lists. I’ve been here ten months and have 30 people on Ignore. Not too bad, if it’s true that the forum has 4000 members. Lol...
Some people are a waste of time and band width, so you put them on ignore and you don't have to even scroll by their posts. It's like they don't even exist, so it's great! But I only have a couple of people on my ignore list. I don't utilize it very often, but I've been harassed before, so I'm not afraid to use the ignore feature that the board offers.
I did a count and found 15 on my ignore list (I think about half of them have been banned from the website). I only put those on ignore who personally attack me for my opinion.
I think my ignore list was reset with the new forum, so 1 at this time. I only block those who refuse to heed my warning to cease the ad hominem attacks or those who refuse to allow me speak for myself. Luckily most posters heed my warning and embrace civility.
Problem is that now they'll be able to post things about you behind your back and you won't see what they're saying! Anyway it's more fun to slap them around with replies to their posts, that's why I never put anybody on ignore. My only gripe with those who talk childish rubbish is that they clutter up the forum and make it look juvenile and amateurish, so maybe the mods could delete such posts, and ban them if they keep doing it.
There's a link you can click on to see an ignored member's post. I only have one troll on ignore as a convenience so that his posts are filtered out when I view a page of posts.
If I use the ignore function, it's most likely because the person is just exhausting or boring to deal with. Not because I disagree with them - I have several posters that I doubt I've ever agreed with in the years I've been here and yet they at least can carry a conversation. Heck, Aphotic, FreedomSeeker, Snakestretcher, and DairyAir (just off the top of my head) - I'm not sure if I've EVER agreed with them, and yet I still respect their ability to have a discussion. But the people who keep saying the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over - it's just too tedious to deal with. When every post someone has consists of the same old catchphrases, there's no real point in any kind of discussion. Or someone whose only actual posting style is ad homenims and logical fallacies - It's just easier to let the ignore tool pass over their posts for me. I only had nine people on ignore, and most of them haven't posted since the reboot. Heck, I couldn't even remember two of them.
That's the definition of trolling and why I put that troll on ignore. He kept posting repetitious nonsense.
