Way to go, they are moving forward while America is going backwards, more jobs generated with clean energy then fossil fuels , In addition China is the biggest manufacture of solar panels while trump is promising a fuel that shrinking in world usage, with just a few jobs

Morocco has switched on the world’s largest concentrated solar power plant near near the city of Ouarzazate. Incidentally Quarzazate was the location for the epic Hollywood movies such as “Lawrence of Arabia” and “Gladiator”. It will benefit the all productive sectors of Moroccan industries including transport, agriculture, and by providing better electricity supply and also from cleaner electricity.

“Africa has tremendous potential for solar generation that remains largely untapped,” said Sameh Mobarek, World Bank project manager. The new plant will power over one million homes by 2018 and reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 760,000 tons per year, according to the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) finance group. Here are the benefits they note:

    • The plant will reduce carbon emissions by 760,000 tons per year, which could result in an estimated reduction of over 17.5 million tons of carbon emissions over 25 years.
    • The share of renewable energy in total electricity generation is expected to increase from 4,345 GWh (13%) in 2013 to a target of 5,501 GWh (42%) by 2020.
    • Energy dependency should be reduced through additional electricity production from the 160 MW Noor I and the 350 MW Noor II and III in 2018.
    • Reaching Morocco’s true energy efficiency potential will prospectively pave the way for economic growth and ultimately generate employment.

Explain how America is going backwards? Are we not developing solar power? Are we not developing electric cars? Oooh that's right. We are.

Where are the chanters with "We're # 1"? Oh, because we AREN'T.
Morocco sees the future - we have a so-called president that sees the past.
Denmark gets a big % of their electric from Wind.
We are being left behind - led by an ignoramus.

hmmm ok, how "much" energy is this plant going to produce for what total cost vs fossil fuels? When you do the math, you find out that you get more energy for cheaper cost then green energy. 2) This is Morocco. Not really a developed nation like France, Germany, the United States. So I won’t be going out of the way toting this.

How are we left behind? Oh, you measure dick size by how big a solar plant is and not by economy or military might. We could wipe out that country in a New York minute, but we're not number one.

Now, but for how long? You have to pay for bombs eventually and by then we might not have any money left if we have nothing to sell but coal plants nobody wants anymore.

    1. Who paid for this plant?

    2. When did planning for this plant begin?

Concentrated solar power production is not as environmentally friendly as the democrats pretend. There are other lower impact alternatives.

They take up a lot of space and they also require a crap ton of water to keep them from literally melting down. They generate a ton of heat, suffer a lot of line loss because they have to be isolated, are outrageously expensive to build, and there is a lot of pollution associated with the manufacturing of the materials used to build them....and they fry birds.

I have no objection to solor power if it can pay for itself.

But I wonder how much this solar project is costing and who is paying for it?

Solar-at-any-cost is bad public policy that we have a lot of going on in the US

with more ripping off of taxpayers and consumers on the way if the Paris Climate scam had remained alive in America

The manufacturing and disposal of electric car batteries would cause a liberal environmentalist to become suicidal.

and have you ever seen the full tally of pollution from ONE coal fired power plant?? Not to mention the environmental impact of mining coal and the human cost of same

Solar plants are for absolute idiots. The cost is well over 80 cents a KwH, they require water to clean glass, you lose up to 50% in transmission, and they are an environmental hazard for wild animals.

A much smarter solution is putting solar on all new buildings. Only a fool would think this plant was a smart thing to do.

Have you imagined the environmental nightmare if every car was battery powered? Not to mention the cost of the batteries?
