Not everyone died. Some came to Germany on tanks. By the way, Soviet soldiers did not rape women because it was not necessary. The Germans were dying of hunger. Therefore, German women willingly served soldiers for food. They did housework and provided sexual services.

 

Of course, things don't just move along smoothly in a war of that magnitude. I have read that Germans sometimes in some places had to be ruthless in order to root out the partisans among the ordinary folks, especially when they came across mutilated bodies of their comrades.

Well, in that case I point to you at fact that Solzhenitsyn was a writer, not a historian - that's first. Facts can be twisted, numbers can be exxagerated, most vicious incidents preserned as day-to-day norm, and all that - to have bigger sells. Make more money. Nothing wrong with that, considering he was a human, and a writer - not a historian, and was not oblieged to present the clearest prossible representation of events he went through and things he knew about.

But when you point at fact, that germans were not some wicked animals, as they been presented by Allies and Union - at same in case of soviet army and people I point to you, the NKVD included. So, I assume that as I learned to recognise fact, that Germany and it's society was complicated in that period, I expect same in return.
