I almost committed suicide. So we're even. :)

Honestly, you know what gets to me far more than personal insults? Lies. It is in my nature to want to inform others of the facts. That so many people are so sloppy and or dishonest with facts can get to me. That is something I had to learn to not personalize.

    Matthew 25:29
For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

Certainly that's a must for anyone who is determined to expunge from his soul every last shred of dignity.

People who resort to insulting someone in an argument means they lost. Therefore, I laugh when it happens

The worst thing I know is debating against someone who is objectively wrong, but yet keeps pushing his fallacious arguement over and over and over again. I had this debate with a guy where the other guys we were with checked their phones to see who was right and every source said my position was right, yet he kept yabbing absolute nonsense. Imo, this is much worse than using insults. I cannot keep my calm when this happens, not even one bit.

My perspective has changed through the years. I used to take such insults very personally. Now I think getting upset is a waste of time, or even counter productive

Just to illustrate an example of why I have changed my attitude.... my mom has dementia. This causes her to say insulting things. She may acuse me of theft, etc. likewise, I cringe to remember
some things I did as a child, adolescent, or young adult... I remember thins is did when under a lot of stress.

You know, jesus was supposed to have said "let he who is without sin cast the first stone"
Is there really an upside to being the one to cast the first stone. Is it necessary? Is it useful? Or is it just a petty self indulgence?

Generally it depends on what is being said or how it's being said. Certain things, to borrow from the left, trigger me far harder than others. Not going to get into what they are, but it's a narrow category.

Many things "trigger" me. But I am evolving from Homo Sapiens to Homo Interneticus.

I can kill a whale with my psychic energy, so I'm not too worried.

Indeed, insults carry negative psychic energy.

I give what I get. sometimes I go a little overboard and have to find the shovel and an obscure location to hide the body, but that doesn't happen too often.
