I'm not really a fan of the drug war either, but to say it's rooted in racism is just flat wrong. Drugs are a significant burden to the US and they are destroying communities. How would making drugs more accessible be economically better for black and hispanic communities? That just doesn't make any sense.

I could care less how you feel. Your position is illogical it's based on a fallacy and when I pointed that out you attacked me with an ad hominem.

If you're not willing to make logical debate the best thing you can do for thanos's case or the case of racism is not talk about it. The more people that say a logical fallacies and then go on attack when that's pointed out the more shrill emotional and childish that position seems. You are doing a disservice two this claim that there's some sort of systemic racism. Perhaps that's your reason for doing it perhaps you're a poe. But when I think about yours and senescence arguments I find them to have less validity based on your inability to support your claims and the desire to attack people who challenged them.

Thanos will say because of that you are too ignorant to discuss this. I went further in asking him to show me evidence you know support his claim and he just said I was too ignorant to talk about it with because he couldn't support his claim.

I really think this is why this racism nonsense is becoming far more shrill and far more public. it is its death rattle. They can't get people to believe this crap anymore in one you question them on it they just insult you.

it would not. It would simply make it to where they aren't our responsibility to care for in prisons.

The crack epidemic took ahold in the early 1980s. Response from the government? Double down on law enforcement, instititute racial profiling, implement unconstitutional policies like stop and frisk, over police black communities, and give harsher sentencing to the most pervasive drug in the community. That was the response to the crack epidemic.

Now let's see how law enforcement is wanting to treat heroin as more of a "disease" that requires "treatment". And they're not looking to wholesale arrest people.

Now I don't believe policy makers are racist, even if their resulting policies function in a very racial manner. I think at the core of this is the fact that whites are the majority in America. Upsetting this demographic is political suicide. If they treated young white heroin addicts the way they treated young black crack addicts in the 90s or even young black heroin addicts in the 60s, there would be major calls to reform the drug war. White America would lose confidence in law enforcement.

Today most minorities tend to not really like law enforcement. But they're not the majority, so there outrage doesn't overpower the votes and narrative of the majority. Right now the average white person sees nothing wrong with our drug laws, and feel they actually keep people safe. As long as police can harass black and brown people, and not white people, they'll let it go on. And a few white people who sees how bogus this war is will step up and call this war out for the attrocity it is. But middle of the road white America just hasn't lost the confidence in law enforcement. But when whites do, then that's pretty much the end of this game the government is playing.

So as I said before, the race thing is the symptom and not the cause. The cause is the government wanting to find excuses to control people and take people's rights away. And white people sign up for these policies because they only think these policies are going to effect dark skinned minorities. But it'll eventually effect them too. I mean Hitler started killing Germans after he got tired killing Jews. So a policy against blacks is a policy against whites.

Before the war on drugs, blacks owned businesses in their own community. There were 2 family households and this was common. Black people actually had a legit economic base. They started even building their own schools. Many will say the fall of the black community started to happen in the late 60s. And while it was in decline, black Americans were largely self-sufficient throughout much of the 70s. Even if they may have been behind whites slightly economically, for the most part all of the things that now charactize the black community just wasn't associated with blacks in the 70s.

The 80s is when law enforcement really started to strong arm it's way in the black community. And we see the results. Now it's harder for black people to start businesses in their own communities. And due to the invasive drug policies it has created countless broken homes in the black community as well. This is the "society" strong arming drug war policies give you. It doesn't help communities, it turns them into depressed wastelands. I'll take 1972 Compton over 1998 Compton any day of the week.

As to how "legalizing" drugs help. Well first you have to admit that making drugs illegal doesn't make them less accessible. Just because I can't walk into Walmart and get some grams of heroin, doesn't mean I can't shoot up. I'm a guy who knows no drug users or dealers. But I bet right now if I wanted to I could score heroin or crack or anything I want today. So these laws really don't help at all.

Legalizing them would for one give us a multi billion dollar industry, create new jobs, and it makes drug use safer for people. I mean it's like we refuse to learn anything from prohibition in the 20s and 30s. Yet we're repeating this cycle all over again

how did they institute racial profiling? And is that inherently wrong and why?

So you don't understand the reasoning for that outside of "racism?" It must be racism because more users of heroin are white?

So the only conceivable reason for treating heroin addicts differently now than in the past is because of race?

I could understand that with regard to blacks and Hispanics but not all minorities. Asians and Jews Are minorities.

But one place I can see blacks and Hispanic being treated differently is in sentencing. I wouldn't have much respect for a system that was stacked against me. If I were to commit a crime I'd prefer to get the same punishment as a woman or a white guy that committed the same crime.

I don't agree with this. I think the major reason there is still prison sentences for substance abuse as because prisons are managed by private companies who are very wealthy and lobby. The more Prisoners the more profit. It's easy to find crimes being committed in more poor neighborhoods. Poverty disproportionately effects black people and Hispanic people. But it doesn't disproportionately affect Eastern Indians and Oriental people. So I don't buy that it's racism. I can accept that it's a remnant of the past when our culture was racist. Much like a feedback loop.

I would have to see code written or Unwritten between the lines whatever that says it's not okay to her ass white people but it is to harass black people.
I'll absolutely call it out. I have I'm considered white but race is really irrelevant to me. And not just for the way it treats young black man and young hispanic man but for the weary at treats all of us.

first I don't know what ability you have to be able to see into the hearts and Minds of white people. Second distrust of enforcement is not appropriate. When you need enforcement it's a good thing they're there. They serve a necessary function. I distrust the criminal justice system because it is political.

It's not the govts fault that drug crimes happen mostly in black majority communities. I can't understand how you are associating taking criminals off the streets with racism. If anything, they are making the streets safer for families.

For the 'war on drugs' to impact you negatively, you first have to get involved in drugs. Something those other non-white migrants avoid.

    It's all a choice.

I agree that things were better for black Americans late last century, but I disagree that their 'downfall' is a result of laws (which didn't arise out of nowhere, they arose in response to something). As far as I can tell, that something was Progressives telling black people that they're helpless, and that only white people can fix them. Essentially, just when the last of the old school racism was gone, and everything was going really well for these people, a new kind of racist emerged .. intending to return blacks to the plantation.

Tell me.....what do you think of all the pictures of looters in Tampa? Was that a put on? Were they just made to look black by some racist? Does the fact they all looked black perpetuate racism? Do Black looters matter? I think, bud, you should start by cleaning up your own house before you start painting yourself as a victim and white folks as racist. Head up to Chicago and council with the gangs that are murdering record numbers of black citizens if you really thought "black lives mattered".

I don't think liberals are incapable of racism at all. I'm not a partisan, I typically like to call it how I see it. If my observations are an indictment against liberals and progressives then so be it. I'm a capitalist first, and I find that most city governments largely function outside of a capitalist framework. Gentrification which has largely burdened poor and minorities in most cities is almost completely endorsed by liberals.

Maybe. Not American, myself, but we see the same thing here. The irony is that our POCs are doing better than our whites. The frantic attempts (by Progressives) to push them back into roles as cleaners by repeatedly wailing about white oppressors is therefore high comedy. They're beseeching Chinese zillionaires to rend garments and wail in the streets about the white overlords they employ to maintain their 17 apartment buildings and do their gardening.

Deluded right wingers have no business pretending racism in any form doesn't exist in society. Here is yet another example:

Ohio firefighter: ‘One dog is more important than a million’ African Americans

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...fighter:homepage/story&utm_term=.3090c9895313

Tyler Royston has been suspended from his position for racist comments (Facebook)
An Ohio firefighter appears to have put his job in jeopardy by posting offensive comments to Facebook.

Until last week, Tyler Roysdon suited up as a volunteer firefighter in Franklin Township, a small town in southwestern Ohio, about 40 miles north of Cincinnati.

But, according to station WHIO, a recent Facebook back-and-forth caught the 20-year-old writing that in a burning building he would choose to save a dog before an African American because “one dog is more important than a million [expletive],” he wrote, using the n-word.

The post — arriving at a time when racial tensions are cranked high across the nation and debates are endlessly waged over what actually constitutes offensive speech — has since been deleted from Roysdon’s account. But the statement did not disappear before being spotted by local authorities.

Last week, the township’s board of trustees voted to indefinitely suspend Roysdon for “conduct unbecoming a township employee.” Roysdon’s work as a volunteer was a paid position.

I would save my dog from a burning building before I would save Tyler Roysdon because my dog is a waaay better person than Tyler Roysdon is

“Fire Chief Steve Bishop immediately contacted the firefighter and directed the comments be removed,” the township said in a statement. “The firefighter was suspended without pay until the Board of Township Trustees could meet to determine a course of action.”

Roysdon — whose Facebook account also features pictures of the Ohioan in firefighter gear as well as Confederate flag memes — did not immediately respond to a Facebook message requesting comment.

Many Vietnamese and Japanese have come here poor. There are many waves of impverished non-whites throughout American history who have managed to reach higher levels of social achievement than blacks. Blacks, despite their supposed discrimination, do better in white nations than any yellow, brown or black nation.
