Castro, that SOB, killed about 7000 political dissidents.....he was a monster. That would be like if Trump rounded up the people at the NY Times, and CNN, and MSNBC, and then imprisoned them and tortured them and then shot them. Clearly Trump is better than Fidel - more compassionate and more tolerant. Fidel was so insecure that he dared not allow his fellow countrymen to VOTE for their leader. A weak and insecure person, Fidel was.

Winds don't blow from South Korea northward? You need to have more faith....in humanity, and in people's innate yearning to be free!

That is neither here nor there. The statement was made that Tump refused to talk with Kim, and was not true. Also, at this point, talk
    is cheap.

We can all tell that basically uou just proved the OP right. "Question: name one concession that Kim has made when we (Obama et al) appeased him, negotiated/talked with him!?"

We're heading to FOUR pages soon, and not one person so far has been able to show the OP is wrong.

I'm correct in thinking that, like the OP asks, you can't name one concession that Kim has made due to Obama's (or Tillerson's) talking/appeasing.

Don't care. War or no war is the only thing that is important here. Nobody is stopping you from going to South Korea and marching on the North Koreans. I hear plane tickets from from Moscow are relatively inexpensive right now.

I did not say that he made any concessions. We are talking nuclear, my friend, and let's talk if possible before any Americans or South Koreans die.

Obviously I despise totalitarian/dictators (Putin seems like one), as one can ascertain from reading my posts.

That's because NK HASN'T made any concessions - despite Obama's (failed) attempts to talk to NK.
Bush Jr. even took a Kim off the list of terror-supporting nations....that concession didn't work out so well - didn't change their behavior one danged bit. Trump is right about this, and Obama was naive about this.

Trump is talking to them right now. I agree that there will be no concessions, but who knows?

Trump is, with Twitter (and probably Tillerson, behind the scenes), NEGOTIATING with Little/Fat Kim, basically. His tweets are "negotiations", arguably. Finally a president is standing up to the communist thugs, and the Jihadist thugs. Obama failed miserable in doing that - ideologically especially.

Obama was not the strongest President in foreign affairs. Weak is a good description, since he is basically a peacenik, like Carter.

Those two are well-intended, but naive. Like Neville Chamberlain with Hitler.

When the U.S. sees you as an enemy the propaganda and lies always quickly follow.

Saddam’s troops throwing babies from incubators. His fabricated WMD. He can strike the UK within 45 minutes etc etc.

Gadaffi mass-murdering his own people. Giving his troops viagra so they can rape etc etc.

Assad using chemical weapons. Assad murdering tens of thousands in his jails. Using chemical weapons again etc etc.

And yet, as per usual people unquestionably lap up everything said about the North Korean leadership.

    The mind boggles!

Not as easy, they have no weapons to fight with and Kim treats the military well enough to keep them on his side. Also, Tyrants will starve people to keep them passive. They have no strength to resist and only think about putting something in their stomach.

Nonsense - Kim wants to rule over ALL of Korea (they used to be a unified nation), and the US has of course been the main thing standing in his way of that......he's never signed the peace-treaty - guess why!

I didn't know Kim has been the only dictator NK has. You act as if he even fought in the Korean War. Most of those people are aged, or dead.

I figure Kim might want to rule over all of Korea. I also figure that ain't gonna happen. Even if we have bases there or not.

I think that the reason Kim is willing to talk is that the population is starving due to the sanctions and may revolt if something isn't done to alleviate this situation. Also, a meeting would give him recognition and stature. He is a liar.

His people have starved before. That is not something new in NK.

I don't know why Kim is willing to talk. Hopefully we will find out, but I kinda doubt it.

    All politicians are liars.

When it comes to Kim, we should use the same as we did with the USSR. Trust...but verify. Otherwise nothing positive can ever happen. Crossing your arms and saying no leads nowhere.

Kim's people have always starved and the sanctions have a death grip on them. He can't be trusted.

I cannot disagree. But you have to give the replacement dictator a chance, to see what he wants. Things can change. And you have to talk with NK to find out. I cannot imagine the neocons are gonna let him do any deals with Kim. I would be shocked if anything really changed.

OPer said, "Trump gets it right, talking to North Korea's Kim is a big waste of time."

    Trump tweeted:

    Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

Received message last night from XI JINPING of China that his meeting with KIM JONG UN went very well and that KIM looks forward to his meeting with me. In the meantime, and unfortunately, maximum sanctions and pressure must be maintained at all cost!

    3:16 AM - Mar 28, 2018

It should be understood we have no reason to believe anything Trump says. He has been known to lie outright, or say one thing, then change his mind and say the very opposite. He has done that with respect to DACA, wall funding, gun control, tariffs, and a myriad of other important issues.

What kind of message from Xi? Was it a phone call? Email? He doesn't say and neither does the White House, which suggests there was no message. He got the news the same way we did, watching television news shows. Maybe Trump was watching CNN and he does not care to admit it.

The meeting between Xi and Kim went very well. Trump was telling the truth, but that doesn't not necessarily mean that is a good thing for the U.S. Trump is naive to think a meeting between the two dictators portends well for our country. Truth be told, Trump has no idea what was discussed, and neither Kim or Xi are going to tell him.

Of course, Kim is looking forward to meeting the leader of the free world. His status is increased a thousand fold, and he achieves a great diplomatic victory. To achieve those goals, he gives up nothing. He has not even answered Trump's invitation.

The last sentence is a non sequitur. Trump wants you to believe they are conditions for talks. He simply mentioned the status quo for the past two decades.

For years and through many administrations, everyone said that peace and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula was not even a small possibility. Now there is a good chance that Kim Jong Un will do what is right for his people and for humanity. Look forward to our meeting!

    3:05 AM - Mar 28, 2018

Trump is being clever. He fails to define "what is right," but he is implying "what is right" is the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. He bases this pie-in-the-sky thinking on what the Chinese press said Kim said. According to China's Xinhau News Agency, Kim said, "It is our consistent stand to be committed to denuclearization on the peninsula, in accordance with the will of late President Kim Il Sung and late General Secretary Kim Jong Il."

Instead of reading Chinese propaganda, Trump should play closer attention to what our intelligence is providing.

Satellite images show what looks like a new nuclear reactor ready to go online. It could produce 20kg of weapons-grade plutonium each year.

Keep in mind South Korea has every right to kick out the US Military now North Korea has an ICBM. This is what China wants, and what US fears. South Korea knows that the US may not sacrifice New York and LA if Seoul goes up flames. This may pose a scenario where the US is no longer needed in the Korean peninsula, for South Korea and China get along pretty well. North Korea and Chinese relationship is going to get more better since North Korea is now a reliable ally for if China invests in NK, NK won't just get destroyed easily by the US. Lets say an battle over the South China Sea happens, North Korea can now join on China's side, fighting a limited air and naval conflict, without the risk of North Korea getting invaded. This will cause more damage to South Korea than SK wants. South Korea may want to get it's own nukes to deter against North Korea and China, and not wanting a conflict against China, ultimatley means US may be kicked out.

The US is in South Korea not only to protect it's strategic interests, but to project power against China. If China tries to take South China Sea, US fighters launched from Korea can add an extra buffer zone in the North.

The US wants reunification on it's own terms so NK will no longer be a thorn it's side. Keep in mind Kim's interests are not Chinese interests. He ultimately wants reunifcation on his own terms where his people have the power to make decisions. North Korea is poorer than SK, that is why South Koreans laugh at the idea of bringing in North Korea and wasting their tax dollars on it. However since the scenario is so tense, it might accept it on the condition if North Korea gives us it's nukes. Kim isn't dumb, the whole purpose of the ICBM is now he can negotiate from a position of strength.
