Germany started its greatest rifle invitation of tenders program. Our army want to exchange its complete G36 rifle stocks against a brand new model. The 245 million € contract is currently the most lucrative contract in the rifle business and the papers have a bombshell hidden in it.

    It says: "NO ITAR Product".

All american producers build their products under ITAR standards. Which means that all american companies automatically are out of business. The contract is basicly made to favor the german H&K corporation and to make sure, that the americans get no foot in the door. It even excludes american made components.

The link shows the H&K 416, which is an old design (AR15 copy).
I thought the German military were going to the H&K 433

Anyway, who cares? It's just Germany.
Essentially, a field in Europe full of backwards superstitious savages, sometimes it's muddy in Germany, sometimes it's dry.

So, American companies are unable to build per whatever standard that contract calls for?

I still don't remember giving Germany permission to build an army... TBH.

Since when could these people form an army?

Something needs to be reviewed, they should be like Estonia, having NATO instead.

If they don't have an army then others have to step in and protect them. Many don't want the US there anymore as it is.

    NATO...
    UN Peace Keepers.

I'm not saying Americans should risk their necks for these ungrateful people who sit in the forests all day.

    NATO.

What makes Germany any different than Estonia?

Estonia never caused any world wars for 1.

If Estonia have NATO forces, this should be fine for the Germans too.

The EU has lost the plot, so think of the EU like the African Union, and then take a second, and think back to
'when was the last time I cared about what the African Union had to say?'
    and there's your answer.

The EU is long overdue for sanctions.

Talk about a thread with an Anti-US twist. At best/worst Germany is going "Germany first" as to some of their industries. We also saw this with Boeing/Airbus and the advantages given to Airbus and their contract proposal, if the EU keeps doing this there will most likely be more and more sanctions between the EU and US.

The funny thing about this is it basically goes against the standard saying of "The US is evil because it sells weapons to the world!" argument because the reasons for this ban are exactly that, stated in the OP's article and other found sources.

This is 100% in place because Germany wants to be able to sell the weapon to anyone they want including countries on the US "ITAR" list. If there is any American tech in the weapon, the US has to say whether or not the weapon can be sold to the world. Germany wants to bypass this,

Good to see the Germans are entering the arms dealing business, with the wars to come they will surely be needed.

Perhaps the most comical about this is that the largest German firearm manufacture SIG SAUER (of which I am a proud owner of one) will be on the ban list since it uses American technology. So if this goes through, SIG SAUER will either have to reinvent their weapons or create a loophole so they can still be purchased.

Last but not least if this is a money thing that is incredibly stupid to start a trade war of some kind over such a small amount. And yes, 250m Euros is tiny

In fact, SIG SAUER alone has an annual revenue of almost exactly that, mostly to the US.

Interesting trade war you seem to want to start OP

I have to say that of all my guns, the only one worse than the American one, is the German one.
Which is just a piece of placcy crap. I mean dreadfully engineered.
    A toy.

They are free to build whatever they please to whatever standard they please.

Smart play on the Germans using no US tech. The US pisses around a lot like that.

The US already does play those same games.
It doesn't buy German guns made in Germany.

It buys American made guns designed in Germany. Military industrial complex is protected industry in all countries.

Yes, the papers are written in a way that american companies are already out of of the bidding process. Infact the contract is written that only a german corporation can fullfill the demands.

USA favors Boeing alot as well. We have the right to do the same with Airbus.

Also i would like to add, that Germany already is the Nr. 3 in worldwide weapon sells. Behind USA and Russia

    https://www.dailysabah.com/business/2016/06/13/germany-becomes-worlds-3rd-biggest-weapons-exporter

So why do you say we "enter the arms dealing business", when we are already Nr. 3 in the world?

As for SIG Sauer. They are German only by name. Their Headquarter is in USA. Which makes them not trustworthy to build weapons for our military. H&K is 100% german and thus trustworthy in the regard, that no foreign investors can hijack development.

lets hope the germans build their guns better than the hacked volkswagons currently being packed up and sent out of America to overseas buyers.

Even the hacked VW are still better than any american product of the same class.

It should also be noted that Ford, GM and Chrysler hacked as well.

And what disgrace? VW is still biggest car producer in the world, making billion profits. The Diesel scandal is over. Was an american fake scandal anyways to hurt german business. It didnt work.

The penalty was 10 billion. And we took 13 billion from Apple 2 weeks later.

lol fake scandal my ass. You dont recall and round up that many cars over a fake scandal. Regarding your article, three cars that will never ever sit in my driveway are a dodge, a Jeep and a volkswagon. Ive driven them all and never again. I dont know anyone that drives a volkswagon here except for one coworker who said "its brand new, what can go wrong with it" a month later she was regretting those words.

sorry thats what we call them. Thats the joke. You need a horse to pull it. I thought germans were aware of that slam. Also fix your audi tramsissions. They are also a national joke here if you were dumb enough to buy one. Audis are great if you want your tranny to let go and run over your child in the driveway.
