Paddock is responsible for what he did.

Saner regulations may have kept him from accruing that many weapons with that kind of fire power.

The man had HUNDREDS or red flags come up in every aspect. His purchases alone got him flagged.

There maybe should be a squad of police, that put you on notice. WE are on to you, keep your nose clean.

    And keep them under scrutiny.

100 percent of all humans wanting to buy a gun, are checked out by the Feds as if they are criminals. And they are not criminals. Suppose to buy a car they checked you out. (100 percent whom pay for the background checks is my meaning)

For a serious check out, try the checks done to me by the Feds.

I not only was checked out by the FBI, but had to prove I am a citizen of the USA.

Doing what you want to know?
Getting on Social Security requires you to prove using certified documents that you are a citizen. To vote, nothing such as that was needed.
Getting 3 licenses. To get them, I had the full FBI check up and also had to show my birth certificate to prove again I am a citizen of the USA.

Voting, nope. Don't need to prove to CA I am a citizen.

I never heard of the red flags. But we do know the Feds spent a lot of time checking him out.

Now the dark column is a result of a real need - that to travel from one place to another - the lighter columns are the result of a desire and a belief in an outdated sentence in a piece of paper somewhere

Do they not check you out for a driving licence though? I mean you have to be a certain age, a certain fitness (i.e. Not blind) a certain knowledge level and not regularly impaired by substances that can affect your mentation

This country is reaching a tipping point. Not during Obama so much, but during Trump. We see Democrats using brown shirt goon tactics to prevent speech. We see universities being forced by Democrats to engage in security costing at least $800,000 as happened at UC Cal in Berkeley, Ca.

We see Democrats frothing at the mouth to pass more and more laws. We see no effort by Democrats to kill any bad laws. And there are bad laws.

Many humans in America own a huge collection of guns. They are called to pay for the crimes of Paddock by heavy regulation on them. We owe them all our defense. We must join in defense of those who buy guns. They have a constitutional right to what they buy.

I resent Dodd Frank law also due to putting so many innocent brokers such as me on the chopping block. The extra schooling, added licenses and added costs should make all of you angry. We did nothing to cause a crash. Go after Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac whom makes the rules of lending. But no, they did not pay a price. We got charged a lot more and they got saved.

I promise not to bother you or your country over your laws. I promise not to take sides over your politicians. Will you please do all of us a huge favor and stick to your own politics?

This is not 2010. This is 2017.

    1) It is pretty evident that you want to minimize the impact of gun violence.

    2) I can chose to not participate in driving, if I want to minimize the risk of being involved in a car accident. Most people don't and actively accept the risk, because driving serves a purpose. In contrast, I have no control over when a nut with a guns stash decides to unload on me.

    3) If laws don't work, as often claimed in gun control discussions, why not get rid of speed limits and seat belt laws? Oh wait, would we have more driving related deaths then? or would death rates stay the same, as the anti-law gun enthusiasts would posit?

No, CA does not do a background check to get a drivers license. They look at vision by asking us to view an eye chart and read from it. This might cause them to anoint our licenses as to need to wear eyeglasses.

Imagine a major crash caused by a driver where many many die in auto accidents. We would not join you in a call to pull a background check done by the FBI on citizens wanting to buy a car.

The vast bulk of gun owners are completely innocent. Yet we who are innocent are ran through the mill merely to own a gun.

Even the killer was ran through the mill and see how well that worked for you.

But there are checks and balances around having a licence to drive a car plus there is a a monetary penalty if you injure someone with a car

Where is the equivalent in America for guns?

Far far more died annually due to autos than to guns. And your gun figures must include accidents. And you included the people who want to die and kill themselves.

I do not get an FBI check to buy a car. I do not get an FBI check to get a license.

Terrorists have mastered the use of the automobile in mass killings. I am not seeing a way to protect the USA from that. No Democrat seeks FBI checks on drivers.

Dems only complain when they think it has political impact to get them elected. But they're in for a big disappointment when the next election rolls around. If the media was honest with them and not siding with them, things would be different.

What does your message have to do with this topic? Just more obsession with hatred of the President having nothing to do with this thread topic whatsoever.

The short time in which he purchased so many should have been a warning. I wonder why it wasn't? Usually a shooting sports enthusiast buys from one or two shops exclusively and they know him a little. Not saying they know him outside of there, but you would think those red flags would have been noticed. I wonder if purchasing in these amounts was not that unusual for him?

Lot's of folks will read about some new firearm and want to try it to see how accurate, how powerful, through chronograph data and calculations of that data and bullet weights, they truly are, versus felt recoil, comfort of stock and ability to adapt to various environments and situations.

I don't think this is all that unusual, but it could be for certain folks. I'd much rather see the system working as it was designed and have it ignored by those in charge of it, than for it not to be used at all. I think this is not the fault of the industry, but those paid to follow up on those searches and suggest updates to the laws in order to eliminate folks with mental illness ties to terrorist, hate groups, and undocumented populations.

I find it difficult to believe that nutcase had no formal training, though I'm sure it's possible. It would have taken some planning, practice, thought, testing of plans and modification, along with many days of growing hatred, narcissism, psychopathy, anxiety, depression, and many other disorders for him to get to a point that he blamed others so thoroughly that it didn't matter who they were, as long as they suffered and died for some unrevealed and/or unknown personally held delusions.

Anyone looking at this would ask themselves why someone close to him didn't report his behavior to someone...a relative, a friend, a counselor, or a doctor? I think there are some issues right there that make our way of life vulnerable. These, to me, are personal responsibility and love of country, neighbor and way of life. They will be at stake for all of us, in time.

The issues with gun control are important, but the blame is misplaced. We need to find closure when these things happen and the easiest way is to blame someone who does not hold our beliefs. Unfortunately, that's not going to help solve the real issues. Mental health has been significantly at risk in this country, due to various factors which are as real to each of us as the blame placed on the firearms.

Truly, the statistics show that these types of things don't happen often, but they will be more frequent in my estimation, as this country becomes more vulnerable to forced societal change. Today, if we don't believe as others, we are somehow punished, banished, ignored, or replaced. All of us are relevant, though few today act like they believe that.

I've read some posts on another forum about someone's relative, a man, who is schizophrenic. That illness in itself doesn't mean the sufferer will become a serial killer or want to harm anyone. However, some mentally ill individuals do develop the issues which lead to hatred and killing or torture.

This man was diagnosed and placed in a hospital due to his feelings, dreams and beliefs of a violent nature. He attempted to pull off something that would have been horrific. He was released from hospital after being given some meds and two months of therapy. The money ran out. He was not wealthy enough to keep himself there and found himself back on the streets living homelessly with no meds.

He admitted to dreams of violence toward others and all who know him can easily tell something is wrong. These folks need to be in a hospital or care home of some kind for an extended period, and under periodic surveillance.

The police didn't believe the person who reported him before his actions caused his stay in the hospital. No funds are available to him long-term.

Honestly, I think most folks don't care about anyone except themselves. As long as that continues, there will be more of this, and it won't be the fault of the person. They will be as mentally ill as this guy in my example or the shooter in Las Vegas. These folks donm't know how ill they are. We are going to have to take some responsibility.

I think that's where we should start. I do agree no one actually needs assault rifles and bump stocks or automatic weapons, but if we allow our liberties to be slowly chipped away, we will be no better than those who want to take them away violently.

We do have responsibilities, though. We must care for others when they cannot care for themselves. We must allow right and proper changes of laws that will benefit all. We must be careful we don't make changes that will limit our freedoms. We must elect those who believe similarly and will have us, we the people, in mind when they consider their choices.

    BINGO. You nailed it. EMOTIONS.

Rational and politics are moving in opposite directions. Politics is fueled by the news sources. The News sources are fueled by social media. Social media is 97% emotion of which most is anger. Anger is an expression of fear.

To bring this back full circle. The most successful politicians are the ones who can best manipulate fear.

Money will never return life. But as you haunt the forum, be aware that the families have moved to lock down all assets of the killer. My hope is they and not the lawyers spend the bulk of the cash they plan to collect.

Lawyers..........can't live with 'em and can't live without 'em. I guess after the court costs and lawyer fees, the wounded, families of the dead, the hotel, the concert attendees, the bands and performers, the police, firefighters, doctors, nurses, techs and others get in on it, since they were all affected in some negative manner, they will have to look to the city, county, state and federal governments for funding to pay whatever balance is owed?

No lawyer is going to sue unless they think they can make a bundle. This guy didn't have enough to cover all these folks.

Yes, Paddock got through the red flags.

So . . . deny certain weapons to everyone. Anyone got goes to federal pen for ten years, if they have 'bad' guns.

That is a huge contribution to the forum.

I like to weigh things and then decide. i want as many facts at hand in order to decide as can be obtained.

I then compare this to that. Does this make sense if applied to that? That can be anything. Can guns be applied to deaths due to autos? I say of course. Can mass deaths get compared to other mass deaths. Why not?

Anyway, in America we have the faction called Democrats who leap to the conclusion their ability to craft laws means they have solutions. They do not have solutions. They have politics. Their entire goal is human control. Ergo first thing they say is make laws. And then make more of them. And later make more of them. Criminals are not in the habit of obeying laws. And this makes their points moot.

Ummmm . . . you go to trial and if convicted you go to prison and perhaps get the death penalty.

We must keep in mind, punishment. Many would have called for the death penalty had he been captured. He self administered the death penalty. He got away with nothing.

Robert makes a good point then runs into tin foil country. It is not us vs them. We are Americans. And either we work together or we go down together. Anything else other than is moot.

    Robert does not get it.

It is not the person, it is the gun.

Outlaw the mass fire power weapons, then use them as lures to catch the pervs.
