    WASHINGTON — Paul Manafort and his former business associate Rick Gates were told to surrender to federal authorities Monday morning, the first charges in a special counsel investigation, according to a person involved in the case.

    The charges against Mr. Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman, and Mr. Gates, a business associate of Mr. Manafort, were not immediately clear but represent a significant escalation in a special counsel investigation that has cast a shadow over the president’s first year in office.

    Mr. Gates is a longtime protégé and junior partner of Mr. Manafort. His name appears on documents linked to companies that Mr. Manafort’s firm set up in Cyprus to receive payments from politicians and businesspeople in Eastern Europe, records reviewed by The New York Times show.

    Mr. Manafort had been under investigation for violations of federal tax law, money laundering and whether he appropriately disclosed his foreign lobbying.

    I guess this proves once and for all, The Investigation is REAL and NOT and HOAX. It is certainly is REAL for Paul Manafort, Rick Gates and The Trump Administration.

    The investigation is a witch hunt, and this indictment has nothing to do with the ludicrous claims that Trump colluded with russia, which is the supposed premise of said investigation. If Manafort is guilty of tax evasion etc, he should be prosecuted, but it does not legitimize the witch hunt.

    So in other words, the DNC ship has hundreds of holes and is sinking quickly so they've been ordered to start blasting cannon shots all around them in hopes of at least hitting a few of the people that helped take them down. Got it.

    Media companies do that all the time. Changes to the article title in article but not change URL.

    The original title was Paul Manafort Indicted I’m assuming?

    It depends entirely on the charges. If they have nothing to do with the election, then yeah it still kind of is a big “nothing burger”.

    Edit: as an example, Ken Starr was hired to investigate over whitewater.

    Clinton wasn’t impeached over whitewater, he was impeached over lying in court in a case entirely unrelated to whitewater. So the whitewater investigation ended up being a “nothing burger”.

    I copied it directly from the link and if a couple words changed, so what? It's just a tactic people use to try to minimize the story or shut down the people reporting it.

    Exactly this. This is not what we're paying Mueller to do. ANY Prosecutor could have filed these charges. So does he have something or not? If he doesn't, we should all demand accountability for Washington practically disabling itself over the 'investigation'.

    According to the New York Post wire transfers between 2012 and 2013 are the issue of the indictment. Manafort was dismissed from the Trump campaign when it was found he had ties to Ukranian President Viktor Yanukovych, who has close ties to Russian President Vladimir.
