    I've had the pleasure of debating "flat earthers". They are dumb. They actually believe the earth is cone shaped. It should be the coned earth theory.

    Flat Earth is what happens when religion fades and humans still need their purpose. I didn't think we'd fill the void of religion with the ignorance beyond measure.

    The freaking Greeks and Romans knew the earth was Round one of those ancient Greek dudes had the circumference figured within a few hundred miles.

    Columbus didn't have trouble making the sale because anyone thought the earth was flat but because they thought his math was off and it was.

    And the four corners of the earth doesn't refer to it's shape but is only a poetic synonym for all the earth

    But not everything. We can believe in gravity, not because of good authority, but because when we dropped that hammer, it fell on our foot.

    Likewise, as to the flat earth, we can make our own observations of the stars and the horizon to deduce that the earth is not flat.

    As contingent beings, its not so much that ideas are ever proved to us as it is that all of the other ideas, that we have considered, have been, to our satisfaction, disproved. What remains is what we are left to believe. Then, that's tested, and so on, and so on.
    "Knowledge" is what we are left to believe. The closest thing we have to proof positive is experimental repeatability.
