Not that surprised when I heard about it. Trump and associates seem to be the types that do not like hear opposing views or get evidence they maybe wrong. Not wanting certain words to be used just makes sense.

The whole Russian thing and attacks against the FBI and intelligence community is a really good example. Never ever willing to listen and accept that this attack happened. Simply can not face the possibility that the Russians tried to infiltrate the Trump campaign and influence the election in his favor.

Unless they are talking about the spread of sexually transmitted disease there is no reason for the CDC to mention homosexuals at all

I guess they added this to avoid triggering any far right conservatives and evangelicals.

We'd have to see the submitted budget request to be able to answer that. If the CDC was using "science based" as a bullshit term to push for more funding for studies of gun violence, for example, or if everything in the budget request was "science based", I can see how the White House would rebel against the phrase. I wanted to ban the word "basically" from every student's vocabulary while I was in law school because the term had become so overused.

Lord help us if he get's their attention, Trump would probably name an anti-vaccination person as the new head.

When something is a leading cause of death it really should be studied don't you think?

Not when it's not a disease. That's not the CDC's realm. Would you like them to study car accidents, too? That's the #4 killer in the US after heart disease, cancer, and lung disease.

And it's ranked 4 by the CDC https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/accidental-injury.htm

"Policy analysts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta were told of the list of forbidden words at a meeting Thursday with senior CDC officials who oversee the budget, according to an analyst who took part in the 90-minute briefing. The forbidden words are “vulnerable,” “entitlement,” “diversity,” “transgender,” “fetus,” “evidence-based” and “science-based.”

The United States is now on path to become something it was NEVER intended to be. Our Constitution was written to prevent this from happening yet it is. Our own President is being allowed to dismantle and slowly eliminate free speech and free press in our society and close to 1/3 of our population is helping him do it while our Congress watches impotently.
I am not sure anymore that we will be able to correct this or if our constitution and republic will survive it. Likely 2018 will see a massive correction politically but, this level of damage may be too much.

Rebel against and ban are two very different positions.

And you use one example of a topic that you don't think the CDC should study, a topic that they are not allowed to study - by law, as a justification for banning a phrase that is only descriptive and not even a topic.

Law school should have taught you better.

Really? You can't think of a reason for the CDC to mention 5% of the US population?

You make it sound like this is some major constitutional crisis of censorship here... we're talking about the White House telling one federal agency (of which it is the head) not to use a handful of words in its budget proposals. Again, without being able to see the original budget proposal, there's no way to know why the White House objected. I gave two possible reasons. Feel free to make up your own.

Next step is banning books.... Hurry up, Bob!

However, the CDC can make some simple substitutions to get around this.... here are a few suggestions

    “entitlement” = Trumptitlement
    “transgender” = Conwayism
    “fetus” = Sessionslike
    “vulnerable” = TrumpAdministration
    “evidence-based” = MuellerProbe
    “science-based” = SmallHandsSmallPenis
    “diversity” = OmarosasGone

Well... in the era of fake news, I’d like to learn more on this, before venturing forth an opinion. I think there’s more to it than WAPO leads us to believe.

Funny, but not sure if that's correct. OTOH, the list certainly reeks of politics:
“science-based”, “diversity” “entitlement,” “transgender,” “fetus,” “vulnerable,” and “evidence-based”.

Who the **** came up with this list?
