This is old news OP. The God Delusion (2006): Religion is dying. Interesting to see how society handles it.
No. Lack of current knowledge about particular issues/questions is not necessarily a permanent condition. No, not fear....just intellectual honesty.
Non-sequitur. I fail to see how your apparent intense suffering (or my apparent lack of intense suffering) relates to intellectual honesty.
Does that include atheists, especially ones with obsessive compulsive hatred toward other religions? Yes, "other".
Uh, my belief is based on things like science, evolution, logic, and common sense ... and the fact that there is zero credible evidence supporting your fantastical hypothesis that a creator god exists. At this point, I would have to say the odds are overwhelmingly in my favor and you believers are the ones being massively duped. But, unlike believers/cultists, my beliefs are subject to change based on any new evidence. At any rate, at least try to start curing your mental illness, yabbs, by rejecting those childish legends and superstitions and embracing what is very likely the truth ... your god is nothing more than a product of the human imagination...
Like all those poor starving masses in third world countries? Like those children that die before their first birthday? What was their purpose? How arrogant of you. Reality reflects that we are evolutionarily advanced organisms whose fates are determined by our environments.
Your chances of being here, in spite of your mental illness , by chance are way too much of a long shot. Run the odds, or let common sense persuade you. At any rate.....chance is a childish legend and you have absoutely no idea why you are here. Sure, mankind has developed an impressive amount of technology but it could all be wiped out in a nano second and most likely eventually it will be. It has been in the past. When that happens, you'll look around and scream at the sky, "what am I here for anyway?!!! Most likely, there will be no response that you can hear. Perhaps you'll find a mirror that will remind you......it was all between your two ears anyway.
You are, however, the one obsessed with posting thread after thread attacking anyone who has spiritual beliefs without a shred of proof for your own position that human beings are no more than biochemical robots; ambulatory meat computers with no more value than their component chemicals.
This is called self delusion. If you make a claim or assertion on a debate forum, you will be called on it. You have the burden of proving your claims.
Perhaps, but no more self-delusional than someone who declares that an absence of evidence equals evidence of absence. Both atheist and theists take their believes on faith. The only truly logical position is that of an agnostic; "a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God or of anything beyond material phenomena; a person who claims neither faith nor disbelief in God." To lean either atheist or theist requires faith since there is obviously no way of proving one's own position. To tell others they must believe/"disbelieve" the same way or face ridicule requires your assertion "If you make a claim or assertion on a debate forum, you will be called on it. You have the burden of proving your claims."
huh? atheism is a lack of belief, not a belief. nope. The only logical position is that if there is zero evidence to support a claim (the existence of a magical sky fairy) then there is no reason to believe said claim. Just showed you otherwise. huh?
One neuroscientist named Robert Sapolsky, a professor at Stanford University and self-described atheist compared religion to mental illness. Big deal, most persons in my life would call me an atheist also. I don't claim to be one, I just don't waste thought on such matters. I see no positive reason to attempt to degrade or destroy my family and friends beliefs.
Everyone has the right to beleive what they want, for sure, provided it's legal. But religions tend to try and impose their beliefs on others, and curtail people's rights. That's why atheists, as well as those of alternative faiths, object. Imho, faith should be like sex: done in private between consenting adults.
Nice dodge....unless it's just the fact you are not as smart as you think you are. Yeah, yeah. I've head the same bullshit before. Feel free to chant it at your next meeting. Great. Then you don't believe there is other life in the Universe. You certainly can't explain what caused the Big Bang, what, if anything, came before the Singularity nor why evidence shows ours is a one shot Universe that blasted into existence and will keep expanding into the Big Chill. No, you flinched. Again, either you are dodging or you aren't as smart as you think you are.
Yet some people need to latch onto that like others latch onto seeing Jesus in a piece of toast. Smart. Agreed.
Agreed. I support a secular government. People like Roy Moore have gone on record putting religion before country, but mostly he puts party before country. Agreed everyone has a right to their beliefs. It's only when they seek to push their beliefs on others that this becomes a problem, be it theism or atheism. In this case, @Guno and a few other militant atheists have a long track record of pushing their beliefs on others.
I think I'd take issue with you about the big bang. It may not be a bang at all but a bounce, from a previous universe contracting. There is some theory that suggests we could find out which is true. We are just beginning to find out how everything works, and you can hardly complain if we don't have all the answers yet.
