A slight disagreement here. Sure, "Big Pharma", like most corporations, looooooves to make money. OTOH, doctors take an oath and most abide by that oath. The problem isn't the doctors but the insurance companies; paying for pills is cheaper than surgery. Pills may cost a $1000/year, but surgery can quickly run up to six figures depending on the problem.
Everybody's got their own problems: House payments, car payments, home insurance, car insurance, put food on the table, push hard and work hard to stay employed and avoid the next layoff, etc. There's no reason responsible people should care about or pay out money for the irresponsible who become addicted.
Goodness, more are killed from the opioids than from automobile accidents or angry wives or terrorists. But Big Pharma is so well in control of the government that nobody talks of removing the drugs from the market.
Local family doctor. No pain meds here. Just cholesterol and allergy prescriptions. Have you tried this guy? He'll write you whatever you want...for a price:
If they use the candy doc, let them die where they lie. If they use the pusher man, let them die where they lie.
Overdose deaths are caused by legal drugs more than illegal drugs. Most of them come from a pharmacy or pain management clinic via prescription.
Or, you could go read the side effects of the top 10 prescribed medicines in the US and find that several cause depression and/or suicidal thoughts.

As long as the same equipment operation laws as alcohol are applied and the users are consenting adults, yes, I'm fine with them. I tend to stay on the side of adults can make their own decisions so long as they are not coerced, forced or frauded and these decisions do not impede on the rights of others.
The stories I was referring to were people who were in car accident and over prescribed pain killers. Personally I don't use headache tablets or any tablets of any kind just fyi
I'm just glad there are omnipotent people like you around to take care of the lowly adults that can't care for themselves.
Nor mine. Yet many of these over doses do not come from the pills your doc prescribes you for pain. Most of the overdose deaths come from the opiate, heroin. Inconsistencies in strength is generally the culprit. SO, you been shooting up X amount and then some new stuff comes in. You do not know it, but it has not been cut as much. So, you shoot up what you normally shoot up and its lights out. Trouble is, with this new hysteria, the people who need pain meds for a quality of life have been unable to get their pain meds, given that many doctors are scared of the DEA and just will not write them. Many of these are old people. So leave it up to the govt and DEA over react and cause people in real pain to lose their meds. George Knapp, of Las Vegas, a reporter there is doing a story on it, from his investigation of the issue.
