The article also references the fact that the FERC rejected a Trump coal rescue plan earlier this year that was aimed at funneling money to nuclear power and coal power plants; however, the article also notes that the decision to close this particular mine was made before that decision and thus, the subsidy would probably have not had an effect.

Coal mine power plants are a thing of the past and to try and hold onto them is harmful to the economy and the environment.

Like Bill Clinton told those workers in West Virginia, "If you think you can do anything to bring back the economy of the 1950s, I can't help you."

continue latching on to any and all negative economic news. I fully support this political strategy and I believe it will garner you positive results in the midterms.

Typical. All news you don't like is either a lie or meaningless. All news you do like is the undeniable truth.

You Trump supporters are...you used to be baffling. Then frustrating. Now you're just boring.

I think its important to face reality and not sell pie in the sky to working people..

" the company said that the mine is no longer productive enough to be economically competitive given current market conditions."

    And,

"also notes that the decision to close this particular mine was made before that decision and thus, the subsidy would probably have not had an effect".

lol never said it was a lie.

but considering the unemployment rate is 4.1%, using this as news of economic decline is, shall we say, retarded?

Coal mining and coal burning power plants account for about 30% of our energy. They aren't going anywhere.

And we don't seem to be too Keen on building new nuclear power plants. So the 20% of power they produce will be decreasing unless we change our attitude about it.

They aren't a thing of the past they're here to stay at least for now.

Coal began dying as an energy source in the United States decades ago and is in its final days. The removal of safety protections and benefits will be all the workers remember about Trump. Folks here in Kentucky are already feeling it and turning on Trump.

You know what's actually retarded? When the unemployment rate was dropping under Obama, the conservative refrain was that the number was a lie and didn't tell the whole story about the economy. Now that your pustulent demigod is in office, that very same number is suddenly the only valid measure of how the economy is doing.

Dont forget the stock market which is hitting record numbers because of Trump.

But when the stock market was hitting record numbers under Obama, that was because of fake economic policies merely designed to make Obama look good.

dude where have you been? we've mostly been talking about the incredible GDP numbers trump is putting up, and shaming obama for not matching them.

we only talk about unemployment because leftist retards make a thread when some janitor loses his job.

Obama never promised he could magically save the coal industry. Only a fool would do that.

Look at the steady decline in coal mining jobs from 1950. In 1986 there were 178,000 coal mining jobs.. When Obama took office there were 86,000 coal mining jobs and falling rapidly.

What is wrong with you that you can't face reality?

I wouldn't doubt the GOP is singing songs of the doomed, behind closed doors.
They know Trump has screwed the pooch. Trump's followers are slow, but two years
of his BS will eventually sink in.

Forgive me, but form what I can tell the GDP is increasing at the anticipated rate and is not deviating much from the trend Obama set it on after the 2009 recession. For sure, the GDP chart didn't spike up to legendary levels because of Trump.

Because it stopped counting people who weren't actively looking for a job. Those people are getting jobs now. Don't be mad at Republican policies coming along and creating jobs.

Obama never saw the market get past 19K. Trump hasn't seen 19K since January 2017. Did I mention the DOW broke another record today? Lookie here. Economy must be in a real bad slump.

Well, in 1997 the figure was 52% so they are obviously going somewhere and going fast.
