Given how all the Trump-backers here spent months parroting every bit of the Russian propaganda right here in this forum, it's hilarious to watch them now try to pretend that it had no affect. It certainly affected them.

And who did helping Sanders hurt? Why, Clinton.

Come on, a first grader could figure out that the goal was to hurt Clinton by any means necessary, giving the victory to a Putin-lackey Republican. Is it really over your head?

A little logic here. If you were Vladimir Putin who would you want, a tough negotiator like Trump, or someone who could be bought easily like Clinton. All he would have to do is donate to her foundation.

I reckon that before the presidential election, my pro-Trump posts had more influence on the outcome than Russia did? Oops, mebbe I shouldn't've said that lest the FBI, NSA and CIA read it, and they come after me. :icon_jawdrop:
[IMG] I'd better check with the Ecuadorian Embassy here to ask if they've got a spare room - preferably one with a balcony.

I think they do. They've hired Hollywood to make a scary film.

Why did the Russians involve themselves in US elections.

The nomination, no. The general, everyone with sense thought Clinton could lose.

The point of the Russians spreading big lies for Sanders ("The DNC rigged it for Clinton!) and Stein ("There's no difference between R's and D's!") was to get butthurt Berniebros and idiot Greens to stay home and not vote for Clinton.

    And it worked.

You may not be able to understand something that obvious, but the Russians certainly could, so they got their preferred candidate into office.

I think Hillary lost primarily because she was an awful candidate (there are stones that have more empathy than she does) and because of the FBI investigation of her. And because Trump's supporters were more motivated than the moderates who did not like him. It's why most polls show his actions are extremely unpopular, but he might well win another election.

The same reason the US does it, but the russians being limited to social media, were feckless in their intent. How does our CIA do it? They are experts, and are not above killing to achieve it. The nations they do this on are not strong enough to declare war on us is all. Or in the case of Israel, just sit back and don't make a big deal out of obama interfering in their election. Nor did the UK when obama meddled in Brexit. Convincing people to vote against Net In Yahoo or against Brexit was done overtly. Would that make it better if russia just did it overtly? Pehaps next time Putin can back whoever runs against trump and then meddling will be just fine! He can even have a speech in which he does that.

That's their job in a competitive world. It's why the US involves itself in foreign elections.

I think they did not want hillary, because she had said she would put a no fly zone over syria guaranteeing a US/Russia collision and possible war. They were being the sane group, not the bat **** crazy group who supported hillary because they wanted the first women as president. Irresponsible? Sure. A war with russia just did not matter.

Russia in was syria legally while we were there illegally. Under obama and hillary. One can see why they wanted anyone but hillary. Obama did not Net In Yahoo, nor Brexit and tried to meddle in those two elections, without using the CIA. We keep the CIA for other countries, to do it covertly.

I am not convinced the US has actively sought to influence an election in a major state recently. Observing them and analyzing them are very different then actually trying to influence them the way the Russians did, for example by breaking into computer systems. That is a lot more risky behavior.

Trump says his response is laughing his ass off... I think he doesn't catch the detail in the indictment: The US deep state hasn't yet made any allegations about his Majesty's ass getting involved in this entire sh.t, or about his team's, or about his son-in-law's, or about other people's took part in his campaign, not even "indirectly"... There's no strategy out there without no timing..!
