The way we get our meat today at the store doesn’t come from a hunter who goes out and shoots a cow.

If you’re going to be a carnivore, try catching up to the rest of modern America and get your beef patties from Safeway.

I love Subway. Also Outback steak house, McDonalds is a given. I'm going to miss living above a butcher shop when I move in a couple months. It's so easy getting my weekly ribeyes.

I would like to learn to hunt python and see what it tastes like. Lot of flesh, likely very good.

    Arby's gots the assassinated meat.

He doesn't want beef. He wants venison and wild turkey, which are not available in most stores.

No, it's much worse. If I were an animal, I'd much rather be shot by a hunter than killed in a meat packing plant. At least in the wild, I would have had a chance to live free for a while.

In modern society filled with excesses there actually isn't a reason to hunt, EXCEPT that people enjoy it, and like eating meat.

That being said anyone who eats standard supermarket meat and criticises hunting is a massive hypocrite in my eyes. Nothing worse for animals than being trapped in corporate slaughterhouses.

What about poor people who hunt for food? One elk can fill a freezer.

Also, I have a friend who hunts in part because he doesn't want his kids eating meat loaded with hormones.

I guess if you truly can't afford to buy potatoes or whatever. Otherwise both of these come under the reason: they like eating meat. It's just a preference, it's not a requirement for survival.

This brings up an interesting point. I have severe blood sugar issues, an unusual brand, and finally got control for the first time in my life by going to a ketogenic diet - gave up almost all carbs. I lost 70 pounds. I got control of my health for the first time in my life. I don't feel terrible every morning. My blood pressure dropped 20 points to the normal range without drugs. And the quality of my life improved dramatically.

My diet is extremely limited. I don't eat any grains or legumes, or any product high in carbs. Mainly I eat raw vegetables, meat, cheese, and protein mix. I don't know how I could get along without meat. My diet is already severely limited. I can't even eat fruit.

Additionally, it is found that ketogenic diets are anti cancer. There is a ton of research in this area. Beyond other mechanisms that come into play, ketones are even toxic to some cancers. We evolved primarily on ketogenic diets. Light ketosis may be our natural metabolic state. I know my health improved dramatically. And there are reasons to wonder if the high-carb diets play a role in driving cancer. They create the ideal environment for cancers to grow and spread.

It seems that some people do fine on high carb diets, Other people do better on low carb diets. Eating meat may not be just a preference for everyone.

PS. Bread isn't even food anymore. You are far better off without it. I hadn't eaten bread for over six years. I recently had a piece for the first time, and it almost killed me! I woke up in the middle of the night with reflux so bad I was regurgitating acid.

That hasn't happened since the last time I ate bread - six years ago.

the point? hunting is as old as humanity itself....just because it may not be necessary for survival doesn't mean it's not imprinted in the human condition.

Once they get you on that train, you're done, and going to suffer terrible conditions and pain.

The point of hunting is to manage wildlife population sizes, to avoid overpopulation, overcrowding, food shortages from the ecosystem not being able to provide for so many, and prevent inevitable encounters with dangerous species as they wander into human territory in search of food. Along with reducing the likelihood of encounters between deer and motor vehicles. The animal kingdom cannot and will not refrain from breeding on its own, so they must be periodically culled as a result. They can either be hunted, or they can be poisoned.

We can live without meat, but it's a second class lifestyle. We are omnivores, and are designed to do well eating a variety of foods.

Take away electricity and do all daily tasks manually by muscular power and a person just about has to eat meat to stay alive.

No, it comes from a slaughterhouse where they slit their throats while still alive and hang them upside down, bleeding out, until dead. There's your "civilized" method for you.

So you are arguing that diets don't matter and we all do fine with the same diet?

I've hunted all my life. Not to mention fishing, gardening and building stuff from felled trees. Hunting as a way of life has never been at odds with my conscience. And I know my heart too. So if you see me hunting and see a person with a blood lust, it is because you have put or projected your heart into my actions. So essentially, you are the killer with a blood lust, while I am just a hunter. Sick people such as yourself have no business accusing or attempting to dictate to others about what is right or wrong or how to live their lives. You should take up the fine sport of having a pizza delivered or chowing down on a box of wily chicken wings, while you contemplate how to fix your own screwed up self.

    Pretty sheltered life you live.

If you "let nature take its course", animal populations will sometimes fluctuate wildly. Where I live, the deer population at times gets so large that there isn't enough food for them and many starve, and while the deer eat everything they can get they cause other animals to suffer from lack of food. Deer severely overgraze certain areas depopulating some plant species and changing the environment such as turning a grass meadow into shrub or fern, causing erosion, and loss of habitat for other animals. Predators have plenty of food for the 3-5 years while the deer population explodes, then when it collapses the predators are overpopulated and starve - or severely deplete the already depleted deer population. Starvation - that's how overpopulation is handled in nature.

Nature usually sorts itself out, but its not pretty. Its not a Disney movie. That's why culling has been used as population control.

Where I live, some of my neighbors feed their families from the monthly deer (and squirrels) they shoot. In Alaska, subsistence hunting and fishing is the norm in many places.

There is one major flaw in the second part of your argument. We've eliminated 90% of the predator population.
I hunt and fish too provide food for my family, help control populations, and support local charities...hunters for the hungry which feeds homeless in the central Texas area.
I hope there never comes a time when you cannot shop at Walmart or where ever. But with natural disasters, terrorists, and other circumstances...it may be inevitable.
Our local butcher took three loads of 1500 lbs of pulled pork for hurricane relief in South Texas...so you can be outraged all you want, truth is you are sorely uneducated in this area. And your personal outrage aside, no one is forcing you to hunt or fish...so stop trying to ram your personal religion down our throats.
