God's purpose for God's creation is to reveal Himself to His creatures, and anything, even God, is revealed just as much by what it is not as it is by what it is. That is why the God of the bible is just as much about the task of revealing evil as He is about revealing good.

God has been very good to me. He has been amazingly good to me. I have absolutely no complaints. And even when it is time that He slay me, yet will I trust him.

For a better answer, see my thread, in this section of the forum, entitled "If the bible only".

So if an evil being is nice to you who care what he or it does to other humans?

If god save Noah and his immediate family then why would he complain about this god drowning every one in the world beside his family along with almost the complete animal life on the planet.

The christian god is evil in any human term of reference going by the bible at least.

I can understand why those who are perishing describe God that way. I, on the other hand, am being saved. I do not see God that way. It is quite understandable that you do. I expect that everyone in hell will hate God forever. I love God. I am eternally grateful to Him for my life, His love and the opportunities He gives me to exercise my gratitude. I have been saved to do good works which God has prepared in advance for me to do. It is a wonderful life.
Although I am left to believe that God is, at least, as sovereign over His creation as an author is over his novel work, He has written me with a great preference as to what roll my character plays in His revelation of Himself to His creatures. I am grateful to play the roll I play and even more grateful that I do not play the roll that you currently play.
God does love you. He gave you your life. He gave His son to pay the penalty for your sin. Your roll, in His novel work, can change. If it is His will, you will ask Him, and He will save you. He is our author; His will is done.

Is everything planned or is it just random. Science doesn't care. What is the speed of light? Why doesn't matter in the measure. Why is the eternal question. Math; what is the limit. Zero or infinity. To be or not to be.

One thing for sure if there is a Christian god and a heaven and hell most of the interesting people will be in hell such as Jefferson and Paine and Einstein and Asimov and........

Now Hamilton was not religion for most of this life but after being shot by Burr and dying he demand that some kind of Priest would be summon to grant him the last rights.

His high power friends needed to pressure one of the faiths to do so as he was not a member of any of them.

So I assume that I will not get to meet Hamilton in the afterlife assuming once more that there is a Christian afterlife.

I wonder why god was good to you but let’s poor babies die when he could make rain so they don’t stave in agony.
God gets all the credit and none of the blame

For starters your god has done a really appalling job of "revealing" himself since he has provided absolutely nothing credible of any value.

Secondly if what is in your bible is your god "revealing" himself then he has exposed himself as a vindictive mass murderer with no qualms about getting others to do his killing for him either.

Which brings us to the idiocy of "evil". Your god has "created" his "creatures" with the ability to commit horrendous atrocities WITHOUT the mental capacity/empathy to comprehend that those atrocities are "evil". That makes no sense whatsoever. All that "reveals" is gross incompetence at best and abhorrent sadism at worst on the part of your god.

I reckon we should all 'pray' for there not to be another world war. I mean it probably won't make the slightest difference as usual, but there's nothing to lose?? [IMG]

RE: Why do you believe in God?
    ※→ Derideo_Te, et al,

Faith-based concepts, with the ideals behinds the concepts (which is - in itself, a belief in and worship of the ultimate power in the universe), and the intentions behind the actions of an undefined Supreme Being, having ascribed an undetermined set of powers and characteristics ⇒ is --- in itself --- beyond human understanding. That --- which --- exercises powers for unfathomable reasons → is almost impossible to perceive with any significance, under any explanation, relative to any cause. If a human could understand that which is the essence of the Supreme Being, what would that say about the human?

If any person today --- could answer any of the questions that revolve around a Supreme Being, then that would imply that such a solution was derived from a source with the intellectual powers at least equal to the Supreme Being. That would imply that the Supreme Being is not "The" Supreme Being --- or at least the only --- Supreme Being.

    (COMMENT)

"God's creation is to reveal Himself to His creatures:"
    ■ What does that mean?

"anything, even God, is revealed just as much by what it is not as it is by what it is:"
    ■ What it is not, is the same as the "process of elimination."
    ■ What it is, means the that which can be defined through an objective observation.

"God of the bible is just as much about the task of revealing evil as He is about revealing good."
This is an analysis technique for determining which logical conclusions a data set supports.
The support is rooted in the subjective definition (in the form of a qualitative comparison) of:
    ■ "What is defined by a culture as ⇒ "good"
    ■ "What is defined by a culture as ⇒ "evil"

What is "credible of any value?" What does it mean? It has two aspect angles:
    ■ It is belived because it is: convincing to the culture through its reliability, its dependable and its appearance ito be valid.
    ■ It has achieved a certain cultural importance and worth; demonstrating its usefulness.

    (COMMENT)

A description of the meaning "vindictive mass murderer" is humanly derived. It is not based on the intentions of the Supreme Being which could arrange any solution or outcome.

    (COMMENT)

The evaluation of --- "That makes no sense whatsoever." --- is a human evaluation of the actions of a Supreme Being. The Supreme Being, creator of all, may evaluate its creations. The creations do not evaluate the creator (the Supreme Being).

    Most Respectfully,
    R

There was a great deal of praying against wars throughout recorded history and it has had no impact as far as preventing them goes.

I trust you realise I was being sardonic? There's nothing that can stop the one which is on the cards right now because of this ****ing 'Salisbury' crap, unless Trump and Putin get together.

With all due respect Rocco, the ineffable argument is a cop out IMO. It has even less validity than the "goddidit" drivel because it is literally is no different to a small child being in awe of a firework display. No clue whatsoever of the chemistry and physics involved or even any attempt to figure out how it happened. Science can explain every aspect of that firework display right down to the difference in wavelengths between seeing the flash and hearing the bang.

Furthermore science is self correcting. If something does not make sense or the math doesn't work in all instances then no blind dogmatic belief is going to prevent science from finding out why and either remediating the mistake or expanding our knowledge.

Compare that approach to the faith placed in an ineffable god and all you have are primitive superstitions based upon Stone Age ignorance.

As someone with curiosity and a willingness to learn I will stick with science and if science ever establishes that "goddidit" then I will have a credible valid basis for my understanding of an imaginary supreme entity.

(Ras)Putin is smart enough not to start WW3 and the US military are not going to obey the BLOTUS's "orders" to start a nuclear war. They probably won't obey them to start a conventional war either. The BLOTUS is a raving despotic wannabe tyrant and not even the North Koreans are willing to pollute their lungs by sharing the same air as him in a conference room.

The BLOTUS is still stinking up the Oval office so no, it is still a valid acronym until he is gone.

We'll all be gone soon so it doesn't matter. At least he tried to have a dialogue with Putin whereas nobody else has, so what does that tell you about your 'BLOTUS'?

Putin pulling the BLOTUS's strings is not a "dialog", it is the Putin Puppet Show.

When it comes to politics an ex-KGB officer like Putin is more than capable of running rings around a political neophyte sociopath like the BLOTUS. That you don't appear to know the history of either of them says volumes,

They do....but for some reason they can’t make rain in areas where droughts are killing crops and they’re dying of starvation. Humans can send food and hope it gets to them, but god is too busy at a football huddle
