The Democrats took the Congress with a strong economy and a deficit of just $161B a YEAR before the recession began, get your dates straight. Unemployment went from 4.5% under the last Republican Congress to 10% by 2010 and stayed over 9% for the next three years with the worst LFPR in modern history, a resounding failure with the most lackluster growth in modern history. Why do you keep denying the facts?

His spectacular job was that he and his fellow Democrats took to Congress when unemployment was just 4.5%. A YEAR before the recession. Two years later it was 7.5% and they finally did something, the wrong thing, and passed a $850B stimulus that was supposed to hold it to 8% for just one month and yet it soared to 10% and stayed over 9% for the next three years and another two years before it got down to the 7.5% and another two before it got down to the Republican 4.5%.

So what exactly was the spectacular job?

yes, and then the worst recession in 80 years happened. Slashing revenues, sky rocketing UE and an almost complete financial collapse. He was able to turn that around to UE of over 10%, to under 5%. Record high stock market. And the most consecutive months of jobs growth of any US president. That's quite an outstanding job, considering the pile of **** republicans gave him.

Democrats took the Congress a YEAR before the recession refute that else it is the Democrats recession. And noted how you are discussing 2008/2009.

worst recovery in modern history and unrefuted

Nope just simple dismissals and refusing to support your claims. I refuted your assertion Bush could have vetoed the Democrats 2009 budget, you ran.

I have refuted it. DEMS taking congress did not cause the recession, or contribute to it.

    soundly refuted.

    YOU are discussing 2008/2009.

    And then message #221

    You
    Me
Nope when they took the Congress in 2007 for FY2008 and you showed you don't know of what you speak when claimed Bush could have and should have vetoed their 2009 budget. Now explain how Bush could have vetoed that budget.

ok. They took the congress in January of 2008.

Nobody disputes they controlled a single branch of government 1 year prior to the crash. Where your arguments gets demolished, is when you claim democrats had control of budget and policy, and that they caused the republican recession.

Refute they took the Congress in 2007

    110th United States Congress
    109th
    111th
    [IMG]
    United States Capitol (2007)
    January 3, 2007 – January 3, 2009
    Senate President
    Dick Cheney (R)
Senate Pres. pro tem Robert Byrd (D)
    House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D)
    Members 100 senators
    435 representatives

And budgets and your claims about the resulting deficits and who is responsible for the $1,400B deficit it produced.

Why do you keep trying to run away from your own claims.

Why did you refute something no one claimed?

To its depth and length they most certainly and you have not refuted that and instead tried to blame it on Republicans who had lost the Congress a year earlier.

    Which recovery was worse?

why? I never claimed they didn't

correct, which is a single branch of government, and they did not have a veto proof majority. The president was the final say on budget and policy.

Come on, Bluesguy, not even your conservative friends support you in your futile attempt to pin the great recession on Dems taking congress in 2007.

I sold a house in Miami in mid 2007, putting it on the market in early 2007. Nothing was well in the housing market in 2007. The price drop already started in 2006. The only way to sell our house was to price lower than the whole neighborhood of about 50 homes for sale, "losing" $50,000 of perceived house value in the process.

So, how could the Dems taking congress in 2007 could have caused the housing market to seize in late 2006, early 2007?

Your theory makes no sense, and you know it. GWB knew it, that's why he attempted to prevent the great recession by a feeble stimulus attempt by sending everyone a $300 check. That failed. Why? because nobody could have prevented the great recession after all the reckless borrowing and runup of private debt.
