labels are always good since they summerize a great deal of information. Knowing Reiver is a standard libcommie tells you everything he will say about political and social issues. the challenge is to debate the labels not play trivial pursuit about 1000 sub issues.

    You trying for irony?

Why do you think socially democratic countries have lower poverty, greater social mobility and higher self employment rates?

Labels are a great way to organize complex concepts and principles, the lack of them is far more likely to yield confusion misinformation and totally aimless conversation which seems to be your stock in trade

There is a certain amusement factor in it. But that's a knowledge deficiency problem, rather than label one.

No amusement...just boring...when they say "Knowing Reiver is a standard libcommie" this is an abuse of labeling. The person might think they are amusing and entertaining but actually they are just boring...

No, he seriously believes it. There's of course no valid libcommie label. Liberalism and state capitalism are, by definition, mutually exclusive.

you use words with old world definitions that only you know for months and months never learning a blessed thing and then cant figure out why you seem perfectly illiterate! Our liberals are crony capitalists or fascists or state capitalists (think Obamacare). Why not come back when you learn American English??

You want to know what Fascism is? It is like your New Deal."
-- Mussolini, during a visit to New York City

-W.E.B DuBois: (the most important black leader in the first half of the 20th Century) "Joseph Stalin was a great man; few other men of the 20th Century approach his stature. The formation of the Nazi dictatorship was absolutely necessary to get the state in order." In 1937 he proclaimed: "there is today more democracy in Germany than there has been in years past." (page 10)

-Guy Tugwell: (FDR Brain Trust) said of fascism: "It's the cleanest, neatest piece...of social machinery I've ever seen." ( page 11)

Placing false labels is how many people feel they win the debate. They can pigeon-hole you with a label which then prevents them from needing to debate the root issue...

words or labels have definitions. reviver learned them 50 years ago in elementary school in another country and refuses to use the correct modern Usa definitions so might as well be speaking French. 1+1=2

But, if used correctly, is saves time. Call me a market socialist and you know my inconsistency with both liberalism and state capitalism. You don't have to ask!

State capitalism refers to a command economy, completely inconsistent with liberalism. Where do you get these warped ideas from? I'm genuinely interested!

I count home ownership as a 'middle class' thing. So much so in fact that I find myself looking down on people who rent, even if they do so by choice and obviously have a higher 'quality of life' than I do. I try not to, of course, but its just one of those things I do (to be fair, I looked down on myself as well when I was a renter- I really hate not owning my own stuff...)

Anyway, the avg cost of residential real estate is ten times higher than it was 50 years ago relative to the avg personal income in the US. I imagine that rent is similarly relative. Given that most of us are either paying a mortgage or paying rent, thats a large chunk of our budget that has drastically increased over the decades. That makes it objectively more difficult for most of us to provide for ourselves than it was for the past few generations.

...a point I often toss back at 'old timers' claiming that folks today 'have it easy'.

Home ownership tends to be higher in countries with higher poverty. It becomes a self insurance mechanism. You could refer to the sociological analysis that suggests high ownership generates a more conservative outlook (e.g because of that self insurance, folk are less likely to support policies designed to help the lower classes). Then again, home owners have been found to have higher rates of mental illness. One possible explanation for that is the struggle to maintain both mortgage payments and house price upkeep.

The stuff on poverty you could do yourself. Countries with lower poverty also have lower home ownership rates. Fire up your Excel to confirm!

Now the big question is 'why'? For the sociological analysis, try the Kemeny Hypothesis (e.g. https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/14036090510032727 )

has to do with definitions not ideas. When are you going to learn America English??

For example, 100% in America agree Obama is liberal and supports Obamacare which is a perfect example of state capitalism. You have to learn the language before you can contribute here!

American English confuses liberalism andstate capitalism? I think not!

Basic error. Obamacare is an effort to reduce market failure. It does a crap job at it mind you. To compare that with a command economy is pathetic. Try economics!
