This isn't about personal favorites; it's about a system of voting. Pick anything.

Ah jeez, sorry for the delay folks. Wanted to post the results over the weekend, but got unexpectedly busy over the weekend and then even busier once the work week got going. But...wait over, I'm posting the results now. And I got to say that this particular vote yielded the most interesting results out of any of the three so far.
    And speaking of the results...

    The winner is.....well.....

    Um...
...For this one it sort of depends on which voting method you want to use...
but lets just say that the following veggies seem to leave a pretty good impression overall:

    Carrots, Potatoes, and Green Peas!

Carrots and potatoes tie for first in the Condorcet RP vote while Green Peas top the list for IRO. Plurality sees a four-way tie between Avocado, Broccoli (yay! :)), Green Peas (again), and...Okra?

I'd say that if you could only use one system in this situation, the RP results would technically be the fairest. But I'd also say that out of all the methods that one also happens to be the most process/processor intensive. Not too bad mind you, just not as fast as the other two. Given the number of ballots we have, RP can be calculated pretty much instantly if there are only 10 or so options. At the 36 options we had here it take quite a few seconds to calculate the result (at least the way I was doing it). I'm sure that adding additional ballots would not increase the calculation time significantly, however, adding extra options would increase the calculation exponentially. Likewise, going the other way and reducing number of options makes RP faster, but of course the fewer options there are, the more likely that the still faster and easier to understand IRO method would end up yielding the same result.

Being a bit of a perfectionist, I'm inclined to go with RP as the best method here anyway, but I can definitely see and agree with the arguments in support of IRO. Either way, what's definitely clear to me is that I would without a doubt prefer RP or IRO by a large margin over Plurality...a method in which Okra!....OKRA!...somehow ties for first place, even though not but two members even bothered to include it anywhere in their ballot ranking at all! Lol!
    :roflol:

So yeah, when I go shopping for healthy snacks for the Pofo picnic, I'll be sure to grab some carrots, potatoes, figure out a way to conveniently store green peas, and maybe, if I have some extra cash left over I'll get some fresh tomatoes too!

Results (Ranked Pairs - Plurality - Instant Runoff):
BTW, I was a little lazy when grabbing that image. You might notice two items in the list that read "GreenPe". The first one is going to be "Green Peas". Second occurrence is "Green Peppers".
Transposed and Highlighted top three contenders to make it easier to compare them.
    Artichoke
    Asparagus
    Avocado
    BakedBeans
    Beans
    Broccoli
    BroccoliRabe
    BrusselSprouts
    Carrots
    Cauliflower
    Chard
    Corn
    Cucumbers
    Eggplant
    Escarole
    Garlic
    GreenBeans
    GreenPeas
    GreenPeppers
    Greens
    Lettuce
    LimaBeans
    Mushrooms
    Okra
    Olives
    Onions
    Peppers
    Potatoes
    RoastPumpkin
    ShitakeMushrooms
    SnowGreenPease
    Spinach
    SweetPotatoesYams
    Tomatoes
    Truffles
    ZucchiniSquash

    ...that's a lot of veggies!
To start off in this method, options which no one ranked as their number one get eliminated immediately. Obviously, no votes are shifted at this point. We are then left with the following:
Options which contribute to the tally are highlighted in dark geen.
    Code:
    2 Avocado
    1 BakedBeans
    2 Broccoli
    1 BroccoliRab
    1 Corn
    1 Garlic
    1 GreenBeans
    2 GreenPeas
    1 Mushrooms
    2 Okra
    1 Potatoes
    1 ShitakeMushrooms

We then eliminate the lowest scoring options (this time, options which only had 1 vote)
Doing this causes several ballots to become essentially nullified, but those voters who ranked additional options after the eliminated ones still have an affect on the outcome, as their votes rather than disappearing simply move over to the next non-eliminated option in their ranking. In this case, Green Peas picks up 2 additional votes that way.
    Code:
    2 Avocado
    2 Broccoli
    4 GreenPeas
    2 Okra

Lowest scoring options are once again eliminated and Green Peas picks up 1 more additional vote to make 5 total, though at this point the actual number doesn't matter anymore since Green Peas has already become the last man standing.
    Code:
    5 GreenPeas

    Hope this explanation helped. :)

A big thank you to everyone who participated! This was definitely the biggest vote so far.
Feel free to discuss the results below. And if you'd like to discuss different voting methods more broadly,

Eh,...you guys technically missed the deadline.
Then again, its not like this vote has any binding consequences.
I'll add your rankings to the tallies and see how they change things. :)

Don't forget to check out the Pet Vote before that one closes.
Though I'm probably going to extend it at this point...:constipated:

Alright folks...about time I followed up on this one...
I'm factoring in your votes now. Although @PARTIZAN1 I'm not really so sure that Catsup actually counts as a vegetable. Lol! But then again, I told AU I'd put down Cole Slaw so whatevs.

@scarlet witch, for you I marked down avocado, spinach, and tomatoes.

So with those late votes added in, here is what the new results look like.
Not too much different in overall general order, but @Kode, @clg311, your votes cause carrots to win first place in the RP method outright rather than tying. @scarlet witch and @Aleksander Ulyanov, your votes gave tomatoes a small boost, and lead to spinach jumping up in the rankings. SW, your vote also leads to a bump up for Avocado as well as leading to Avocado winning the Plurality vote rather that tying.

@The Rhetoric of Life, if I come back in and add your vote in, combined with AU's vote, it bumps Potatoes back up to tying with Carrots in RP.

All in all, as you can tell, these votes are neck and neck.
Any one vote can make all the difference as to what the winner is.

Lol, adding your vote (with the exclusion of sea cucumbers) leads to Onions getting bumped up to 4th place, right behind tomatoes in RP.
Oh....and if I fix the spelling on it, your vote also leads to Potatoes taking first place in RP instead of tying.

It's like Game of Thrones in here.....or maybe Mario Kart....
Never quite know who's going to have the upper-hand next.

It's probably too much work but I would really like to see a final listing of, say, the top 3 or 4 winners for each type of voting and counting, and I'd like to compare to (this is the hard part) the traditional outcome listing which vegetable got the most 1st choice position, and which got the most 2nd choice position.

And it's really easy to forget to check back here, so it would be great if it were possible to develop a list of participants to include in the post, each using the @Name format to alert us.

All-in-all, I may be asking for too much. :nerd:

Do you mean something like this?
    http://www.politicalforum.com/index...rite-vegetables.530698/page-5#post-1069178918

In that post, the second pair of columns is tallied up using the traditional Plurality method. So, its a count of the 1st choice picks of all the voters. 2nd, 3rd place picks etc. aren't included at the moment, but I think this is what you mean...

The first (leftmost) pair of columns is tallied using Ranked Pairs (RP) and the third pair uses Instant Runoff (IR).

No, that is a great idea!

I often use the @ in order to remind or inform other members of different things, but I usually try to only use it if I'm fairly certain that they'd be interested in whatever I'm writing about. Sometimes its hard to tell though. If I had a list of folks who specifically said that they were interested in all Rank Vote related stuff though it'd be a lot easier and we wouldn't have to worry as much about folks missing out on a vote because they didn't see the thread. Yeah, I really like this idea, I'll set up a thread latter specifically for this purpose. Thanks!!

    Oh!

Do you see where it says "Results (Ranked Pairs - Plurality - Instant Runoff):"
There should be an image underneath that header. (A screenshot of an Excel spreadsheet).
If you can't see it,...that would explain a lot...

Well, I mean that probably everyone who has submitted a list of choices as a "vote", thereby participating in this thread, would probably be happy to know the progress. In any case we can each choose to take an interest in a notification or not with little effort. So I'd say just list everybody in this thread.
