    US consumers with no jobs?

In that case you have give them welfare to pay china for the cheap trinkets they consume but do not produce

Sorry did I make an arguement for making the cars in China? What I said was that workers are mow working for peanuts in non union America car factories snd the American cars they are making are only slightly inferior to the cars designed by Japanese and Koean auto companies.

    I think you are misinformed

My impression was that non union workers make slightly less than the Big Three pay union workers but it appears I was wrong

Toyota pays MORE than Ford or Government Motors pay

    https://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/31...-made-more-than-uaw-members-for-first-time-l/

“Toyota workers in Kentucky plant made more than UAW members last year“

Production of goods and/or services in the US to fill the funded desire (aka economic demand) resulting from the lower prices of goods imported from foreign nations which have a comparative advantage. This is the same process involved in the reality of why we produce oranges in Florida rather than New York.

But the labor costs of production are higher in unionized states.

Ain't the free market fine ??

There is no comparative advantage except that chinese and indians are living like beggars and working for peanuts

Under globalism huge blocks of Americans will soon join them

If you mean higher cost due to liberal government in unionized blue states you could be right

The fact is smart people who are willing to make the effort do just fine working for toyota

That makes no sense unless you believe it makes sense for the government of New York to require that oranges consumed in New York be grown in New York.

It's Trump who wants to give us all jobs that will be "competitive" with foreign rates of next to nothing. And those rates in those foreign nations are rising all the time. Trump wants to make we Americans the oppressed factory laborers so we will compete better at giving obscenely high profits to business owners on the backs of their workers.

    Agreed! :)

With all the nonsense of these punitive tariffs, I always have the impression that Trump and / or his followers actually believe that the rest of the world is trembling and submitting to the will of the almighty Washington DC!
Nothing is further from reality than this mistaken belief! The times when the world or at least large parts of it sink in when the Lord of the White House roars are over!

The whole thing has triggered a backlash from China ... and if Trump from tomorrow against the EU, the punitive tariffs, there are also from the EU counter-reactions.
Action and reaction hurt each, without question, but who started the nonsense here and who reacts?

Yes I know ... we bad Germans have a big export surplus ... how can we be so outrageous? O man ... is it our fault if so many people in the world order and buy so much German products ... more than what we import from other countries? Should we seriously force our companies to refuse orders from abroad by governmental order, so that the export surplus decreases? Really now?

Funny is also the nonsense, when Trump attacks the German car manufacturers and threatens tariffs on their cars.
Times away from the fact that most of the cars of these manufacturers are manufactured in the US, or partial whole Serioen of a car of these manufacturers only in the US for the whole world including the German market is produced ... the note of howling Americans on the oh so evil and much higher German and EU tariffs is also largely nonsense!

Yes, only 2.5% of European passenger cars are due in the US ... 10% of US passenger cars in the EU.
Böse EU .... but then unfortunately also bad USA, because on European SUV and Pick Up are due in the USA 28.5% duty, in the EU only 14% on American SUV and Pick Up!

Of course Trump does not say latter one ... why should he, if he does not want to be more ridiculous, than the clown already is?

Thats very far away from reality

A better example would be Maytag washer production moving to china and taking American jobs with it

But they still want to sell it here

Thats what deserves AT LEAST a 25% tariff if not more

    Good labor is worth more

But lazy union workers were driving US automakers out of business

I realize that unemployed obama/hillart/bernie /pokahantas voters dont want or need no stinkin jobs

They expect the welfare state to support them

But trump voters want to work and that means bring back the jobs that were stolen by china and mexico

The main reason for locating the manufacture of iphones in China given by Steve Jobs in his book (and Jobs was very adamant about manufacturing in the US) is that Apple could not find enough manufacturing engineers in the US.

They aren't necessarily lazy but the union work rules are ridiculous in many cases.
