Another super-grand-slam from NASA. Curiosity is about 350%, or almost 4 years days beyond it's design lifespan.

Mission duration Primary: 668 sols (687 days)
    Current: 2074 sols (2131 days) since landing[1]

    A Nothing Announcement!

What is termed an organic molecule may come from inorganic sources.

    Witness
    https://physicsworld.com/a/amino-acid-detected-in-space/
Now astronomers have detected an amino acid - one of the building blocks of proteins - in interstellar dust clouds in our galaxy. The discovery of glycine in space suggests that interstellar molecules may have played a pivotal role in the prebiotic chemistry of the Earth

    https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn17628-found-first-amino-acid-on-a-comet/
An amino acid has been found on a comet for the first time, a new analysis of samples from NASA’s Stardust mission reveals.

As organic molecules go, an amino acid is a lot more complex than the simplest organic molecule - methane.

    It don't mean nothin'!
It's just NASA behaving as a science pimp, again.

Methane is produced by organisms.

Anyway Curiosity is a game little bugger. What a fantastic project it has been. Quite amazing. And it put me in mind of a quotation (okay it's on a tee shirt I bought at the Space Needle in Seattle - nothing egg-head about me)

“The important thing is to not stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing" - Albert Einstein.

Indeed it does sir, indeed it does! May it continue to exist.

Actually it means a whole lot!

For starters it is evidence that the elements necessary to form life are COMMON in the universe.

Secondly SEASONAL methane coming from a dried up lake bed indicates the probability of organic life further below the surface than the current Curiosity Rover is capable of reaching which is just 5 cm or about 2 inches down. When the next two rovers land in 2020 there is an even greater likelihood that they will discover organic matter on Mars.

If and when that happens it will mean that we have found life elsewhere in the universe!

    That is YUUUUUUGE!

So this discovery has established that the building blocks of life exist on other planets and we have discovered plenty of planets around other stars that fall into goldilocks zone for life.'

    Science is AWESOME!

Surely it’s clear that the barren wastelands of Mars were the direct result of Arexit!

The Martian climate changed because the magnetic field failed which allowed solar radiation to strip away the atmosphere. The same would happen here on earth if our magnetic field were to cease.

I am going to go out on a limb and predict rudimentary Martian biology will be found by 2025. Likely in salt deposits between dunes or in ice below the surface dust.

Could be the Martians that are coming have been here for centuries as they needed a planet to seek refuge on & after they do the math they'll have realized they've spent way too much & used up way too much to accomplish the feat again; but then again that national religion suicidal Islam Christiananality pedophile "man is God" mentality super ego is such a supreme swastika up Uranus court where space is the place for the human race......

Funny thing, it does when the poles reverse. The last was 780,000 years ago and brief - it required less than a century. But others required 1000-10,000 years. Which begs the question: Why didn't everything die or get cooked by UV and solar flux?

I have seen one explanation suggesting that the incoming particles end up creating their own magnetic field, which provides temporary protection. Perhaps this is actually a function of stripping away the atmosphere, as happened on Mars. But because our field recovers in fairly short order, the atmosphere survives.

If the poles are "reversed" then what that effectively means is that the central iron core rolls over. How long that takes to happen is an unknown but while it is rolling over it is still a magnet and still providing protection. What might be observable would be the "northern/southern lights" now visible over the equator for a period so we might need to rename them the Magnetic Equatorial Lights instead.

It is probable that using some form of punctuation when striving to make a point and less arbitrary verbiage to confuse that point would accomplish far more in the internet forum context especially as you are dealing with complete strangers to the background experiences and information that was used to form said opinion and whatever point you wish to make is better stated directly and clearly in order to avoid confusion which inevitably leads to frustration and derailed discussion at some point in discussion placing the whole conversation at risk of premature end.

I looked up the data about how long it takes. Do you think I would just make that up? But you're right. It wouldn't disappear entirely. It is also true that I've read a paper about the self-shielding effect in response to concerns about field flips.
