"Astronomers have captured this image of a planet that's still forming in the disk of gas and dust around its star. Researchers have long been on the hunt for a baby planet, and this is the first confirmed discovery of its kind. Young dwarf star PDS 70 is less than 10 million years old, and its planetary companion is thought to be between five and six million years old."

Whichever NASA jobsworth dreamed that one up really does deserve this month's first prize. Top marks for imaginative effort for him or her. And to think there are those among us who will actually believe this baby-talk? 'they've long been on the hunt for a baby planet'? Well let's all hope it was worth the wait? :roflol:

Neither actually; but having read your posts you wouldn't understand that there's a third possibility. I wouldn't like you to hurt your brain by trying to think what it could be though.

So you don't believe the evidence of your "lying eyes"?

This discovery confirms the hypothesis of planet formation around stars.

If instead we had images that showed that planets just popped into existence out of nothing that would be evidence that your god exists.

Once again science provides hard evidence.

It's actually funny, in the OP's trying so hard to not care. . .he actually cares more than most and helps inform the people about these cool discovers.

Think about it? It ought to be NASA's mission statement. :roflol:

Look, at last (and it hasn't been easy! lol) I've forced you to recognize you're one of NASA's beguiled believers but that's no reason to be rude? [IMG]

That was NOT rude, in fact it was the most tame and civil response I could come up with. As far as your impact on my understanding, it has if anything made me look more deeply into aspects of astronomy and science …..I actually have learned a bit due to your inability to do the same.

Out of curiosity. Are you a creationist? Do you deny Anthropomorphic Global Warming?
Are there things you might think to say in want to vex me?

What about particles that pop into existence out of nothing and then vanish back into nothingness? Does this happening evidence the existence of a creator, or just a really pregnant nothingness? ha ha

I would think planets forming out of bands of revolving dust and gas is just how the Creator of this Virtual Reality has structured the reality. It structured the rules of the game, so that things appear to evolve. And do evolve. All good games would have this. ha ha

If EVERYTHING is done by your imaginary "creator" then that makes him/her/it responsible for small children dying of incurable diseases. Is that also part of this "virtual reality game"?

What, calling me mentally deficient isn't rude? I'm surprised you didn't get a warning for it.

Moderators rarely ding someone for telling the truth and your oversensitivity is not reason either. The use of mental deficiency seemed a relatively kind way to explain how you present yourself and avoided the use of terminology that staff tends to discipline when used. As you are simply not worth getting warned over, I used the safest path.

So what are you suggesting? That the Very Large Telescope did not make the observation? Or that the observation was not of a young start and planet?

I have never said that I know this universe to be a virtual reality, for I am not like you in maintaining that I have any certainty in regards to this issue. I conjecture it, as some physicists are talking about it.

You for some reason cannot even conjecture it. You want to say it is impossible, and you know it is. When you do not. Got some more arrogance you wish for me to smash? More certainty? I have none, but you are full of it. It is a lie of course, that for whatever reason you are not able to admit. I think this is the nature of the ego, nothing more than that.

There is a good reason he (and me) assumed you think the universe to be virtual reality and I also figured you thought God was the programmer....rather arrogantly.

Perhaps you should be a bit more careful about your wording?

I have made it a point, many times to say I really do not know. I guess I will need to continue to say that in every post on such a topic? Ok.

I offer up conjecture, based upon what I have heard actual working physicists say, in conjecture. I conjecture. But if someone thinks you are serious, a serious atheist, boy, here they come. I just wish they would remember my other posts, that shows me to be agnostic, for if there is only one thing that I can know, it is the evaluation and perception that my mind does not know, giving certainty is part and parcel with "knowing".

So I don't know what the big picture reality is. But I would rather that big picture view be a virtual reality created by a metaphorical AI outside of the virtual reality, than the universe the materialists assume exists. But when logic trumps emotion in the next nanosecond, this "rather" is just irrelevant to whether this reality exists or not. I don't know if it exists or if your view of reality exists. And you don't either. At least I will admit I just don't know. Many people will never go there, to that light of truth. I find that interesting as well as amazing.

Okay, but the difference here is that your virtual reality metaphysical Godlike thingamabob has absolutely no data to support it and is not so much conjecture as science fiction. The "Materialist" view in based entirely on data gleaned from observation, experimentation and PROVEN realities.

Science fiction, the good kind is a conjecture turned into a novel. Some of the physicists who are conjecturing this VR, based upon information, are perhaps just a bit open minded than yourself? Not so closed minded? Just asking. For there is a difference between the way you think and the way these scientists are thinking. Of course the standard response from some folks, is just to call these scientists nuts. Einstein was considered by some of his peers to be similar to a nut. You mindset, your mentality here IMO, would insert you into that peer group of Einstein. Just an opinion that I have.

Being open minded is required for all scientists and logical thinking people. However accepting something with absolutely no data and underlying impossibility as workable hypothesis is something completely different. I myself am Atheist/Agnostic because I know I do not know, but I KNOW the Gods we made up are not "that which is".

The trick of saying, "Ok, then god structured it so THAT would happen" is about the same as the woman of fame saying, "You can't trick me - it's turtles all the way down."

    At least you laughed!

Unless you can prove otherwise, then yes, it's exactly what I'm suggesting.

(''the Very Large Telescope' )

It IS proven to anyone who uses critical thinking and believes their own eyes...stability of mind also helps which may explain a lot here.
