    At this point, we have two separate societies. One is generally proud of America and sees us as unique. The other dislikes America and seeks radical change.

    I don't see how that gap is bridged. Someone smarter than me will have to come up with a solution.

    Yes, they are bad actors. I denounce anyone who pushes otherhood and violence feom my side. Do you not see fit to do the same for your side? Do you not think the white nationalist rally in Charlottesville was loaded with bad actors? Or that those who attack reproductive health clinics are not motivated by speech from the right? If not then you choose to be a part of the problem and refuse to rise above the actions of those you find detestable. Rolling around in the mud with pigs and whatnot.
    Political violence goes both ways. You paint a narrative that dehumanizes and furthers the divide. Crazies on both sides are no doubt emboldened by it all.
    I know there is a deep political divide, yes. And I know that your rhetoric helps to widen it. I’m not foolish enough to think we can agree on everything, but we have similarities and we can find compromises with each other if we are willing to look for them.
    This twitter users actions should be rebuked by both sides. It’s the only way I can think of that posters here and the right in general might feel more comfortable addressing their demons as well.

    And the mainstream right of Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh is any better? Come on, we’re better than this. Both of us. I denounce Maxine Waters’ calls for harassment. I denounce anyone in the mainstream who seeks anything more than civil conversation and peaceful civil disobedience if the former is not an option. Can you not do the same, and recognize that those who seek to widen the political divide have no credibility on either side?
