U.S. threatens nation over world breastfeeding resolution, shocking health officials

    This is Nikki Haley's version of diplomacy, bullying third world countries for commercial gain of US infant food suppliers, and denigrating breastfeeding of third world infants.

    Trumpery has displaced diplomacy in the UN as Nikki Haley becomes an abuser of third world countries.

    Nikki Haley will leave the UN eventually with her reputation in tatters and the rest of the UN applauding her exit.

    Nikki Haley threatened that if "Ecuador didn't drop the resolution, Washington would withdraw military aid and issue punishing trade measures".

    The U.N. is involved with breast feeding decisions. Damn, and to think that I thought it was a useless organization. Proved me wrong...

    You think promoting behavior that is scientifically proven to be healthy for infants around the world is a useless endeavor for the United Nations?

    The US saw it as worthwhile enough to threaten economic and military sanctions against countries just for sponsoring a statement on the issue.

    I have yet to hear any doctor say that infant formula was anywhere near as beneficial to a newborn as mothers breast milk.

    Ill go ahead and say it, as a Trump supporter, thats some bullshyt.

    Formula is Fing terrible. It leads to reduced adulthood cognition, reduced autoimmune system and general underdevelopement. Formula does not have everything infants need to be healthy.

    That being said, formula is better than cows milk or water and flour or nothing, all things that impoverished people use to feed infants when mother is sick or missing.

    I gotta wonder if theres a 'supply to third world' dynamic thats not being displayed appropriately by the media here.

    But ya, in general, we should be supporting any initiatives to promote breastfeeding.

    I really want to hear a a spokesperson for the white house answer a question to justify this decision. Why do you bow to corporate interests when it comes to a statement on breast feeding?

    I think both are in the wrong. Yes, breast milk of course is obviously healthier and yes we'd like to encourage it but not through the diktat of a UN Resolution. And at the same time, threatening sanctions and removing benefits from Ecuador isn't the right step either.
