On Saturday, Trump blamed all sides for the violence in Charlottesville despite the invasion of heavily armed protesters. By not naming the true enemy, the President received condemnation from every quarter. Pressured by Republican leadership, his own advisors, even members of his own family, three days later Trump finally relented and named America's enemy.

"Racism is evil, and those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans," Trump said in a statement to reporters at the White House on Monday.

A day later Trump undid all of that. He told reporters he really didn't mean what he said Monday. He meant what he said on Saturday. That all sides were to blame for the carnage in Charlottesville despite the fact that most of the counter protesters were like Heather Heyer who was killed by a white supremacist. They were the home folks. They lived in Charlottesville and they resented the armed invasion of bigoted intruders.. Trump blamed them anyway.

At Trump Tower in Manhattan Trump angrily defended himself against criticism that he did not specifically condemn Nazi and white supremacist groups following the weekend’s deadly racial unrest in Virginia, and at one point questioned whether the movement to pull down statues of Confederate leaders would escalate to the desecration of George Washington.

“Many of those people were there to protest the taking down of the statue of Robert E. Lee,” Mr. Trump said. “This week, it is Robert E. Lee and this week, Stonewall Jackson. Is it George Washington next? You have to ask yourself, where does it stop?” he said, noting that the first American President had owned slaves. Lee and Jackson fought for the Confederacy, a rebellion against our Constitution. This is Trump's idea of getting all the facts before commenting.

"I think there's blame on both sides. And I have no doubt about it," Trump said. "You had a group on one side that was bad and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent," he added. "No one wants to say that, but I’ll say it right now: You had a group on the other side that came charging in without a permit (the townspeople defending their homes) and they were very, very violent.”

So, in Trump's view, the townspeople who were defending their city are as guilty as the heavily armed neo-Nazis, KKK, and white supremacists.

“You also had some very fine people on both sides,” Trump said.

David Duke, a former Ku Klux Klan leader, praised Trump’s comments as a condemnation of “leftist terrorists.”

“Thank you President Trump for your honesty & courage to tell the truth about #Charlottesville,”

Republicans distanced themselves over the weekend from Trump's comments that blamed both sides for the violence in Charlottesville, Va.

On Tuesday, they had to do it all over again.

Senator Mark Warner of Virginia said it best. "No words," he tweeted.

The organizer of last year’s deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., got a petition approved Thursday to hold another far right event — this time directly in front of the White House.

You are quite wrong to describe it as an invasion and misleading in claiming that the towns people were resisting.

Antifa was there engaging in violence and they are just as reprehensible as any white supremacist.

It is like here in Portland. When the right-wing "activists" come to town, with their hate filled, liberal bashing message. thousands of citizens turn out to say, "Not in our town!" Out of a thousand, maybe 30 are AntiFa. Yet if one sees the right-wing media one gets the idea that all the counter protesters are Antifa.

I saw that he mentioned an upcoming rally, but it was just strange that he didn't actually speak to it, with the majority of his post referring to the rally from last year. He said that it will be at "the U of V", what is that?

About what? That there were fine people on both sides. According to you, a heavily armed group of KKK, white supremacists, and neo-Nazis invade a town and you and Trump consider them "fine people." Thank you, you proved my point.

What would you call it? There is a photograph and a video showing the invasion of heavily armed thugs. You are a true Trump fan. You simply avoid reality that displeases you. Did you even read the post you are replying to?

I could not agree more. However, there was only a small group of antifa there and they reacted to the invasion. They were not the cause of it. The vast majority of counter protesters were the townspeople defending their homes. One of them was killed by a white supremacist. Trump pointed out they didn't have a permit. "You had a group on the other side that came charging in without a permit."

The fact is that the demonstration in C-ville was not a "white supremacist, neo Nazi, KKK rally" but a protest of removing Confederate statues. Millions of people across the country who are not white supremacists, neo Nazis or KKK were/are against such removals, self included. Not including that necessary context is a lie of omission. Note that OP offers no evidence whatsoever that the people in the unnecessarily large picture are in fact neo Nazis, white supremacists and KKK because they -aren't-, or rather a vast majority of them aren't/weren't.

So is the left -so- shaky in its political position that they can't honestly address ANY topic related to politics in a straightforward, factual way? Must there always be transparently dishonest revision in their narratives? It boggles the mind that adults could buy into their near perpetual lies. Yet they do.

It's a fact. I know you don't like those, but your feelz don't change fiction into truth.

The Charlottesville demonstration was a demonstration against Confederate statue removal by ordinary, generally right of center Americans who have rational, non race-motivated reasons for their position. Some of the miniscule amount of actual white supremacists in the country also attended and marched in the demonstration. That's what it factually, historically was, not a "white supremacist, KKK, Neo Nazi rally." Get honest and stop participating in transparent revisionism. In the net age, it doesn't fool anyone any more. Eh, never mind, keep it up. It's -exactly- why you lose and will keep losing.

I realize that departing from the "white supremacist behind every bush and tree" narrative could cause you some psychic angst due to cognitive dissonance. So I suggest you ease into the truth slowly by noting that there are no KKK under your bed, in your closet or hidden in the backseat of your car, and when you realize the truth of it, just accept it and move on with your life free of that particularly toxic, divisive delusion. Fallacious identity politics needn't be terminal. It's never too late to cure yourself of it.

 

You can downplay and try to excuse the large number of white racists who showed up, but as far as I’m concerned every last word you wrote is bullshit, that’s all your post is good for.
