Excellent news, and I hope some legislation comes from this. A handful of Silicon Valley liberals should not have the power to silence their opponents on the internet, especially when you consider the collusive nature of these particular people. These media sites are natural monopolies, and they have not been threatened with being broken up, like we do with other monopolies.

The less intelligent conservative/libertarian argument of “just start your own site” doesn’t work. This isn’t a cake shop where you can go across the street to a competing business. There is no alternative to Facebook. There isn’t even any guarantee that if you did start your own site, you would be safe. Gab.ai was started as a free speech alternative and competitor to Twitter, and is currently being threatened by Microsoft at having their domain stolen, because they refused to remove a couple of antisemetic posts by a single user on their platform. That’s not freedom. These tech companies do not own the internet, and their business is heavily dependent on it. The infracstructure built to create and maintain the internet is paid for with taxpayer dollars, and these companies should be subject to the 1st amendment and the other rights that we have.

In sum, I agree and if we had a patriotic Congress, Congress would move quickly to restore 1st Amendment rights. But this Congress already attacked the first amendment with "the dogma lives strongly in you." Congress, and those against POTUS Trump seek to attack the first amendment of the US Constitution, and in true double-speak accuse Trump of doing what they've done flat out on their own.

It's not about whether these organizations or companies are right or wrong, and if there are threatening messages you deal with those then. It's about our First Amendment, freedom of speech. If we don't have that, we're really screwed.

The mainstream media used to have a total monopoly on the information that we were exposed to. They want that back. Too many people are waking up to their agenda and they don’t like it.

It's truly sad that in their anti-Trump crusade, they really would make America a true third world, political persecution type of place to live. Then America loses its exceptionalism. All it has then is a hollow, overpaid military.

Also, Reddit, Instagram, and any number of political forums are alternative places where people can voice opinions.

There can be no monopoly on the Internet because anybody can start a site at anytime. The cries/arguments about censorship on the Internet are weak.

I don't understand how the internet media sites are "natural" monopoly. What are the barriers to entry? There are new social media sites all the time. You say there is no alternative for Facebook but just do a quick google and you will find lots. Younger users avoid Facebook because it is the choice of their parents. Friends of mine that were avid Facebook users have gotten frustrated with the site and moved on. I still have a Facebook account but rarely visit it. If I want news I can watch it on Youtube or read about it on Blogs or Reddit. If I want to share pictures I useFlickr/Smug Mug. I think Facebook will disappear like mySpace. I thought one of the benefits of the internet was it made it easier for Social Media sites to enter the market. When I talk to my young nieces they are using sites I have never heard of. Co-workers use Chinese sites like Weibo and Qzone which they claim are better alternatives to Facebook. In a way I am sick of all the new social media sites because depending on who you talk to they want you to join a site they are on. People want you to follow them on Twitter, other only use Instagram to share pics, some want you to join Printerest for their pics. You have to be on Linkedin for work networking. Even for apps like WhatsAp which is great for chatting with friends you run into people that want you to install similar apps like WeChat or Keiko Chat. My phone is crowded with social media apps.

 

You could always pick up the phone or write a letter.

Already addressed. “Start your own site” doesn’t work because even if you did, your domain can be stolen by the registrar if you didn’t abide by some shadowy TOS that they refuse to enforce for leftist sites.

This is a coordinated attack on wrongthink, and considering how heavily subsidized these companies are, they should abide by our 1st amendment rights.

This is a big if. Even if a domain is stolen, another can be created. Domain possibilities are endless. Moreover, one can be their own registrar.

Coordinated attacks on wrong think would be more problematic if wrong think didn't have feasible alternatives. They do. Numerous alternatives are listed in this thread and there are countless others.

How's this even remotely equivalent? A gay dude can drive a couple miles, or less, then have his cake and eat it too. Conservative commentators are being demonitized and banned, which doesn't simply affect them, but also those who enjoy the content. We're talking a lot of money and a ton of viewers. The alternatives for conservatives aren't there to the same capacity as bakers who'll facilitate for gay weddings/whatevers. I think it's inevitable though, that this discrimination against conservative content providers, and by extention those who enjoy the content, will give rise to platforms that'll accept anything which doesn't violate imminent threat, slander, libel laws. This is the way it should be, in accordance with the spirit of 1A, and I hope youtube, fb, and the rest f'n burn.

you can start your own social media platform in about 20 minutes. i agree that selective enforcement of tos is bad business, but at the end of the day you are using a free service. if you don’t like it, don’t use it. better yet, build a better mousetrap and put them out of business.

Only Jones has faced THIS level of censorship, but practically all conservativ-ish content providers I enjoy have been targeted in one way or another. It wouldn't take much research on your part to confirm it.
