    Read.

    Link.

The only condition ultimately asked for was that the Emprorer retain his ceremonial status and the USA agreed to that. Big deal. You are a bit of a hysteric, thingamabob.

MacArthur wrote Japan's constitution. According to it they can't have a military, only a defense force. Even today, the Japanese have only deployed for humanitarian reasons. 70+ years later and they have no ability to repeat their mistakes.

If that's losing the war then I'll take it!

And Germany won WWI because the surrender was conditional according to this logic.

I do not understand what your problem is. The US set the terms for ending the war ... not me. An "unconditional surrender" was the only thing the U.S. would accept. They said so. They repeated it time after time, after time, after time. They even refused the condition offered by the Japanese on August 10, 1945. What does that have to do with me? It wasn't my terms, it wasn't my offer, and it wasn't my refusal of acceptance. I am merely pointing out the lie and charade played by the U.S. government on its own population.

Japan told the U.S. to "F" itself when they said they would fight on unless the U.S. accepted their CONDITION. Why are you humping my leg over it? It is your country that was not victorious over Japan by its own definition. Its' own definition. It is you, therefore, who is hysteric because if you really thought it was no "big deal" you wouldn't argue the fact. You cannot accept the facts. That is the problem. Do you get it now?

Yes.....The Japs tried in the initial stages to have conditions. It was Truman who rejected those conditions and Nagasaki was nuked. The Japs then gave up on all conditions other than concerning the Emporer. Why are you so hung up on it? Should a third City have been nuked killing zillions so that little old you can now boast...."Hey, we flogged those little slitty eyed yellow-brown ********s.....unconditionally."

What do you mean by 'my Country?'

Four days before the end of the war can hardly be called "the initial stages", my son.
No. I repeat ... Japan's offer of a conditional surrender was made as late as August 10, 1945. Nagasaki was nuked on 6 August, 1945.
Me? This is page 3 and yours is post number #55. Who is it that is "hung up"?
You are siding with the fake narrative of the U.S. Therefore it is "yours".

Your: "Belonging to or associated with the person or people that the speaker is addressing."
Country: "A nation with its own government, occupying a particular territory."

You have landed on the wrong thread. This one is about facts & opinions relating to the surrender of Japan in 1945. Perhaps you are looking for the thread entitled, "New Member Introductions". Why must I do that? In fact, I deliberately did not do that. I just started posting. Thing is, Aussies do know a tad or two about the War in the Pacific as we were right in the middle of the end game aspect. My Old Man was on Bougainville (New Guinea) going toe to toe (actually it was heel to heel......long story) when the second bomb was dropped, and that saved my bacon......well, that's what he reckoned.

Technically, that was an armistice. The government collapsed, and Germany agreed to an armistice (ceasefire). They did not and never did surrender.

What followed later was the Treaty of Versailles. Which also was not a surrender, but a set of rules upon the new German Government to help ensure they could never again start a future European War.

But true history fact, there was no "German Surrender" that ended WWI.

You do not have to have a surrender to end a war.

And in fact, Potsdam very clearly never demanded an "unconditional surrender". Not once. The Allied Powers never demanded it of Japan, so this entire conversation is idiotic.

It never demanded for the "unconditional surrender" of the civilian government. They never demanded for the Emperor to surrender. They only demanded the unconditional surrender of their military forces, and that was done.

In essence, this very topic is based on either the OP completely failing to understand that, or it is based on his lying about it.

Myself, I say this entire thread is a lie.

No we didn't. We issued the Potsdam Proclamation, which was a list of generous surrender terms.

Begging us for a surrender condition is hardly dictating.

And no, that isn't what Japan was begging of us. Japan asked that Hirohito retain unlimited dictatorial power as Japan's living deity.

No he didn't. We told them that Hirohito was going to be subordinate to MacArthur.

We had test data long before any A-bombs fell on Japan.

Japan was nuked the first two times because they were refusing to surrender.

They were not nuked a third time because they surrendered.

Both A-bombs were dropped on military targets.

Hardly. The US relentlessly defeated Japan in battle after battle all across the Pacific.

Actually no. Japan asked that Hirohito retain unlimited dictatorial power as Japan's living deity. The US replied that he would be subordinate to MacArthur.

Specifically, that he retain unlimited dictatorial power as Japan's living deity.

No we didn't, and no it wasn't. We told Japan that Hirohito was going to be subordinate to MacArthur.

Anyone who reads the Potsdam Proclamation knows that it wasn't an unconditional surrender.

No. The Potsdam Proclamation was a list of generous surrender terms.

Wrong. When Japan asked that Hirohito retain unlimited dictatorial power as Japan's living deity, our response was to tell them that Hirohito was going to be subordinate to MacArthur.

Somehow I doubt MacArthur was interested in a deity pissing contest.

He was certainly interested in being able to run the Japanese government.

MacArthur was in charge of the entire Japanese government, ordered Hirohito to do whatever he wanted him to do, and Hirohito followed those orders.

He was required to follow every order that MacArthur gave him. And he did so.

    For only about 4 months.

On 1 January 1946 Emperor Showa gave his "Humanity Declaration".

So no, he did not maintain his "God like status", although his people still revere him to this day, like they do all previous Emperors.
