Jamal Khashoggi Is Dead, Saudi Arabia Says

    • Oct. 19, 2018

BEIRUT, Lebanon — Saudi Arabia has announced that Jamal Khashoggi, the dissident Saudi journalist who disappeared in Istanbul more than two weeks ago, is dead.

Eighteen Saudis have been arrested and are being investigated in connection with the case, according to a statement released through state-run media. None were identified.

In the statement, the kingdom’s public prosecutor said that an investigation had found that an argument broke out between Mr. Khashoggi and men who met him inside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2, leading to “a fistfight that led to his death.”

Turkish officials have said that Mr. Khashoggi was killed and dismembered inside the consulate by a team of 15 Saudi agents who had flown in to meet him. His body has yet to be found.

I hope Turkey takes the proper response and sends a message to the Saudis. Obviously since this is none of the US's business, we should let the two nations settle their beef.

I think the prosecutor's description is probably inaccurate, but diplomatically adequate.

I read they'd "vaporized" the body with acid.

This isn't that simple, every free nation is watching this very carefully.

    From the Washington Post;
Foreign ministers from the G-7 group of industrialized nations say they are very troubled by the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and say those responsible must be held to account.

The statement from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom and United States as well as the European Union affirms their commitment to defending freedom of expression and protection of a free press.

The statement issued Tuesday says they encourage Turkish-Saudi collaboration and look forward to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia conducting a thorough, credible, transparent and prompt investigation.

Turkish officials have said there is evidence that the U.S.-based Khashoggi was killed and dismembered at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Saudi Arabia has called the allegations “baseless.

Yes, we know where he was killed and that he was killed by his own countrymen, you don't need to keep repeating that.

    Not our problem.

What embassy did this take place in? Who were the killers? What citizenship did the victim hold? What country did this attack take place in?

If you can answer those questions without another deflection, I'll give you some serious props

My bet is he was taken out by a high Intelligence operation.
It was the Saudi equivalent of the good guys Section 31, or the Cardassian Obsidian Order, or the Romulan Tal Shiar . It was a disconnected from the chain of command, virtually autonomous intelligence and assassination service that is responsible. OH, JUST LIKE THE CIA.

A high ranking General from KSA was flown out the same day I believe (or the next day?) after this operation took place. Clearly a hit from the government of KSA.

Yes, I do. It means the Saudis killed one of their own citizens in a Turkish embassy.

And no matter who is President of the United States, we won't do **** about it.

(Keep in mind, I think we should have cut ALL ties with KSA after 9/11)

POINT: Under whose command? Or was it an autonomous action?
Can the dots be connected to high Saudi gov't officials justifiably or not. I favor "not".

I am not sure if the Saudis would use plausible deniability. I'm not sure they are that smart. I mean, look at how they handled this operation...

If I had to guess, this came from the top. I doubt we will ever know

    Let's go bit extreme;
    Hypothesis #1:
"Turks killed Kashoggi with the support of the American establishment"
    Hypothesis #2:
"Khashoggi is alive and held in a safe house under protection of Turkish and American intelligence officials"

Shall we start working on them?

Under the command of MBS. And their excuse that it was a fistfight gone wrong is just as unbelievable as their previous story that he walked out of the consulate alive.

I guess they then panicked when they chopped him up? Luckily they brought a bone saw....

What should be done if we find out the top Saudi leaders ordered such a hit?

In my opinion we should cut all ties.

But many say they deserve a stern "We condemn your actions!" but keep selling them bombs and planes.

It was reported that they cut Khashoggi's fingers off while he was alive. No doubt because he was a writer. If he just gave speeches they would have pulled his tongue out and cut it off with shears before they killed him.

Turkey is holding the tape over their heads. Arabs will pay billions to keep it hush-hush. The tape may be magically lost. It is just human nature.

Cancel the arms deal and sanction MBS and friends. Pressure King to pick someone else.

People keep whining that Trump isn't "condemning" it. He could call them any name under the sun but NOBODY in Washington would support him cutting ties or giving a real punishment to them.

    It's fake outrage.

See this is something I would 100% get behind. Personally, I believe this should have happened when it was concluded that the Saudi government had some involvement in 9/11.

Hypothesis #3 and more logical. Jared Kushner gathered a list of dissidents to give to the Saudi Crown Prince that he obtaine from our CIA and handed that list over to MbS and Khashoggi's name was at the top of the hit list. In exchange for all that cool information the Saudi Prince gave Jared Kushner lots of money. Soon after Trump made his first international trip after his inauguration to Saudi Arabia, the Saudis announced they would invest $20 billion in an infrastructure fund managed by Blackstone Group LP. The New York-based firm had financed several of the Kushner family's deals and its chairman, Stephen Schwarzman, sat on the president's business-advisory council.

It means that a political agitator got murdered in a nation that tends to do just that. Huge surprise! It has got what to do with us? Or is it that after Obama endlessly bombed everybody and everything in the middle east for the most obscure of reasons -- not that our leftists ever question Obama's motives in regard to anything -- it's starting to look a lot like our leftists are nostalgic for yet more international bloodshed. Send in the drones, eh?

    Exactly.

So in 2011 I took a gvt contract in KSA (took 2 contracts total). I've been to that hell hole and I know how much they hate the United States. They think everyone here are Christians that hate Muslims and they really aren't too fond of the Jewish population in the world.

My boss (a woman) was forced off the contract because she's a woman. Their religious police are ****ing crazy.

They helped, in some capacity, orchestrate 9/11.

We need not do business with them. That's my opinion-rather an emotional one

It means that a man that writes a column for the free American press who was critical of a despotic regime that tortures, kills and kidnaps their own people with impunity was murdered because he voiced an opinion. This is what happens in N. Korea, China, Russia and Saudi Arabia. These countries should be condemned for their crimes against humanity. Saudi Arabia is a member of the United Nations and clearly the U.N. will condemn this kind of behavior on the part of Saudi Arabia. They are clearly abusing human rights.

Amnesty International is calling for Saudi Arabia to be suspended from the UN Human Rights Council. Saudi Arabia has continued a sweeping crackdown on human rights activists. All of the country’s prominent and independent human rights defenders have been imprisoned, threatened into silence or have fled the country. Since it was elected to the Human Rights Council, Saudi Arabia has carried out a horrendous execution spree with at least 350 people executed since November 2013. This includes the mass execution of 47 people in a single day this past January. The country has led a military coalition carrying out a devastating air bombardment campaign in Yemen. More than 3,500 civilians have been killed and 6,200 injured in the war, the majority by coalition airstrikes which have struck civilian infrastructure including health facilities, schools, factories, power facilities, bridges and roads, and many with U.S.A. made bombs.

As you see, this is not merely a scuffle in the Saudi consulate that resulted in some unknown columnist's death. This is a far reaching, and growing problem with Saudi Arabia and their despotic regime that just does whatever they want to do.
