I think I know the problem. If trump says 1+1=4, then one dumb technique is to immediately accuse everyone else of claiming that they think 1+1=4 ("crooked hillary" for example). In other words, take his worst qualities, then claims those are qualities of his detractors without any evidence or reasoning. His followers are mostly dumb, or at least desperate to believe him, so, they are convinced by this and think it is a good and valid technique. They then try it. The problem is that I'm smart. Most people desire more out of their lives than a minimum standard of food, shelter, healthcare and education . Some even want to wear nice clothes and drink booze and smoke cigarettes and go on vacations and eat great meals and drive a car and live in a decent neighborhood with decent schools for their kids, and other stuff like that.

OTOH, those whose accident of birth placed them in the lowest quintile would be provided with a minimum standard of nutrition and housing and healthcare and education throughout their childhood, thus providing them with far greater opportunities to achieve upward economic mobility.

 

Then they don't need all of this free stuff. You've settled the problem of minimum wage all by yourself.
