If a ballot is in question because signatures don't match, can't be deciphered accurately enough, the vote should be voided. The voter should be notified so they can correct the situation the next time.

Throwing a persons ballot out should be a last resort. There is nothing more disgusting than disenfranchising voters on bullshit technicalities. However that type of thing has become one of the normal tactics used by the scummy Republican Party for decades now.

The voter disenfranchised themselves by screwing up their ballot. I want every vote to count. Let the chips fall where they must. But if their signature is so screwed up it can't be confirmed to be the same person, that's on the voter.

The signature is the only means of confirming the person who cast the vote is actually the same person. If that can't be determined, it's done. Phoning after the polls are closed potentially perverts the process.

I don't want human interpretation to be involved. Either the vote is clean, or it doesn't count. That requires a level of responsibility placed on the voter.

Any other approach is open to fraud and manipulation, as has already surfaced in Arizona and in Broward and possibly other counties in Florida.

i read that link and the 'associated press' article linked in the 'rollcall' article, neither mentioned verify by phone, rather that the 'cure' is to reach out to them in order to give them a chance to verify their signature. i would think that meant, contact them to have them come in and re-sign, saying yea/nay on the sigs... or perhaps showing up at their residence and asking for a signed sworn statement that it is their sig.

anywho, this would only be for the mailed in ballots, otherwise they'd have no clue whom the ballots belong to.

No doubt. That’s why we need to take elections out of the hands of political operatives. The present system is corrupt as hell. Letting elected county political hacks count votes is ridiculous. In Georgia an elected state political hack was in charge of counting the votes in his own election. Stalin once said: It matters not who votes, it only matters who COUNTS the votes.

In this day and age it would be easy to enact a system in which every voter would have a paper receipt recording their vote like one you get from an ATM recording a deposit or withdrawal which could be easily crosschecked with the official vote count.

Certainly it doesn't take much thought to see how this kind of process can be perverted.

If a ballot is so screwed up it needs the attention of a Problem Ballot Team, the vote should be voided. The voter should be contacted, and they should be informed of why and how it can be avoided in the future.
