Military Spending Is Already Bankrupting America

One of my regular comments is that US military strategy has made America bankrupt and that this will eventually cause the downfall of what once was a fairly decent nation.

Americans generally like to ignore this and I find that really strange for a nationality that is all about money all the time. But double standards are also a national past time, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

The day will arrive when it's going to be death by a thousand cuts.

Seems like they'd rather spend their tax dollars on military hardware than use them to make free healthcare available for all Americans? I've made that point a few times but never get any feedback to it.

 

It's especially odd in that between 1917 and 1945, a stretch of some 28 years, the US went from being one of the most non-interventionist nations that had ever existed (excluding the sphere of influence around North America) to effectively controlling the world, Europe and all.

If you had said this to someone in 1910 they'd have looked at you like you were a raving lunatic. If you'd told them that within their lifetimes the US would be in never-ending war with the Middle East of all places you'd be laughed out of public life.

I believe that before its time is up the US will return to peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all, entangling alliances with none.

Not that I disagree with the result (bankruptcy), but the reason for the bankruptcy is an unwillingness to tax at a level that pays for our spending.

People on both sides of the aisle would be much less willing to spend on, let's say, propping up a corrupt regime in Pakistan if every dollar spent had to be paid for by increased taxes.

You should know that the largest portion of the U.S. defense budget is for pay, benefits, and quality of life for soldiers and their families.

Procurement (purchasing weapons and other systems) only amounts to about 25% of the U.S. defense budget.

Yes, that's more or less the timeline when the US elite concluded it would take over world domination from we Brits. It recognised its unique geographical position and the almost certain knowledge of the absence of retaliation, together with its inherent continental wealth and self sufficiency and its ability to be a world leader (the world leader, in fact) in industrial capacity. It all seemed that the stars shone on the US.

But eventually greed, arrogance and stupidity took centre stage of everything else and we now see where it led. And clearly, the American elite will never admit defeat and retire from its empire project gracefully; so welcome to the future.

I came back from Vietnam recently, I spent my time with locals; mostly millionaires in their 20s. I was surprised to bring up the subject of the war. They are still suffering immensely, mostly because chemical bombs- people are still born mutants. It was most surprising coming from young rich people, we talked alot about the subject: America s wars. We had this in common, my birthcountry was too bombed by americans.
You know, how much propaganda is applied, people still talk: by word of mouth and by generation to generation. Hatred passed to future generations. This is actually human, and americans do not consider the fact that the more you bomb, more people will hate you.
They might have to kill us all to live in peace.

America will not go bankrupt and will not stop waging war. They will be rulers of Earth or smoking ash.

 

Damn. That’s a lot of time wasted just to express hatered of capitalism, liberty, and justice.

 

Free healthcare would cost as much as the rest of government spending including the military. We spend money very badly. Always have.

 

Liberty and justice? Jeez. Give me a break.

But okay, show me where the liberty and justice actually is? Pretty please...

 

Seems like that is true of all empires until they are not and another empire takes over. War seems to be the way all empires sustain themself until they collapse under their own hubris.
