Republicans built the foundation of the Golden State and made it the envy of the rest of the country and even the world. Since then democrats slowly took control in large part due to what Reagan called his biggest mistake which was to sign the Simpson–Mazzoli Act which gave amnesty to illegals. Once they could vote it was all downhill for California that had a huge illegal population of farm workers that voted democrat in mass. California has gone from being the Golden State to a state of disgrace that people and businesses are fleeing from instead of flocking to.
The lesson here is we can't let this happen country wide as democrats push for another amnesty and open borders. This will only ensure that what has happened to California will happen across the country and then there will be no blue states to run from and red states to run to. We will all be screwed.

"While growth in the Latino population has helped make California a reliably Democraticstate today, this was not always the case. In fact, from 1952 through 1988, Republicans won every presidential election except the landslide loss of Barry Goldwater in 1964."

"California’s Latino and Asian populations boomed in the 1990s and the growing segment of voters were turned off by the Republican Party’s hard-line stance on immigration. After the party closely tied itself to Proposition 187, a controversial California ballot measure that denied public services to people in the country illegally, Republicans struggled to win back the state's immigrant population. Democratic candidates have won decisively in every election since 1992 by performing well in the most populous areas. Despite failing to win the presidency, Hillary Clinton won a higher percentage of votes than any candidate since Franklin D. Roosevelt."

What are you going to do about it? Probably nothing, because California is run by Democrats because the people voted that way. It seems to be a concept Republican followers have difficulty with. You may be content with Republican rot, but the fact of the matter is Democratically controlled area are always better than Republican ones.

Are you saying that act allowed illegals to vote?

You made it sound that way.

And - so? Republicans need to get off their ass and present a platform that appeals to California voters. Ain't rocket science. But the last Republican Governor didn't perform very well, so there is that issue.

But no. You sit there and blame other races for your failure. Typical.

It gave amnesty to illegals and then they became citizens and then they voted Democrats into power in California. It worked so well there that democrats have been pushing for round two in order to cement their domination country wide.

What we can do about it is not have another mass legalization of illegals which will vote democrat and swing even more states from red to blue.

Are you saying without these illegals who got amnesty the Dems wouldn't have been voted in? Meaning there were enough illegals turned citizens to make a difference? I assume you have proof of this?

It's just fact. When amnesty was granted to illegals it swung California into the democrats control and that's why democrats are pushing for another mass amnesty. Last time most illegals lived in California doing farm labor but now they have spread over the entire country doing various jobs up to and including construction. Another amnesty would swing more states into the blue column and democrats could destroy the hard work of Republicans that built these states and start dragging them down as they did in California

as with most things, 'can't turn back the clock', it's an inevitable path and nothing short of a full blown 'revolution' will stop it, unfortunately...

California is lost and will spiral down into a third world country state but what we can do is learn from history and not repeat it. We can't let another mass amnesty of illegals turn America into Mexico

A better platform for illegals to become citizens and vote democrat is definitely not on their agenda.

Prove that these illegals became citizens. To become citizens, they had to follow the law. They didn't. They were "illegals." Their children became citizens, but not someone who broke our laws.

One thing you made clear. Reagan's amnesty didn't give them the right to vote.

I've lived in CA for 46 years.

And what exactly do you see as the problem in CA that Republicans could/would fix?

Once you are legalized you can apply for citizenship not to mention your children born in this country are automatically citizens. The results of this are to be seen in California.

The problems in California are a result of democrats taking the state over. Republicans who built the Golden State can do nothing but sit by and watch this once great state go down the liberal toilet.

Blah, blah, bla, ... my party has crappy candidates and a platform that doesn't appeal to Californians ... blah, blah, blah, ... it's all Mexican's fault ... blah, blah, blah.

Same story, different day. Blame everyone but yourself.

So, in other words, you are just going to complain about things that aren't happening.

The metropolitain areas with the greatest voter participation are Portland, Seattle, Denver, Minneapolis, and Milwaulkee. Their voter partcipation rate is twice that of red areas. They all voted heavily Democratic and the Mexican immigrant vote was insignificant.

I don't know what you are talking about. Oregon is significantly more liberal than California and it is the best state in the whole country.

However, as is common with conservative rhetoric, I hear a lot about how bad California is, yet I never hear what is bad about it. I suspect because it is just empty talk.

I do know that the best airplanes in the world all come from West Coast companies. Although Lockeed is headquarted in the old Martin headquarters in Maryland, the aeronautics is mostly on the West Coast, that and Denver.

The high tech world is stronger in California than anywhere in the world. People who have jobs in the high tech world tend to lean liberal.

Of course this is a lot of misdirection, as we all know, the South, which is dominated by Republican corruption, is far worse off than California.

No one dreams of going to Alabama or Mississippi, to find their fortune and make their mark on the world. No that is California's place in the world.

California was once the sixth largest economy in the world, larger than some European countries. It's sad to see what liberal policies has turned it into.

Under Republican rule, "America's most innovative company" was allowed to flourish. Now they're replaced with shitty software like facebook.
