    I'd say since 2012 / 2013...

Of course, 2013 was the first Black Friday I personally remember being involved in here; helped my good friend find her her new PS4 that Black Friday, was madness looking for the last one in town since we missed the midnight launch we could have went to.

According to this though, it's been going on here for 8 years now, this year will be our 8th Black Friday ever.

One thing I'll never forgive the US for and it's bringing to us Black Friday, because it's commercial exploitation of the brain-dead; retailers increase price tags a few weeks earlier, then the gormless buyers think they're getting a bargain when they pay the the 'discounted' price ticket, thus proving, if proof were needed 'There's one born every minute.' adage. Anyhoo, what's with the 'Black'? What's it supposed to signify? And more to the point, why am I wasting seconds of my life asking??

    PS Oh, and Halloween! :frustrated:

We used to have thanksgiving, kind of if you were Christians. We called it Harvest Festival but it wasn't really the same. Thanksgiving is sort of an offshort of that. Which in turn is something humans have been doing since they learnt to cultivate crops.

I buy everything online from the cheapest retailers Black Friday doesn't exist for me lol. A good example is Screwfix has a Black Friday, powertoolmate does not. Screwfix is 33% more expensive with it's Black Friday deals like for like.

    Guess where I ordered from?

Actually learned this the other day. When people draw charts of there sales during the year a lot of The times They Are red signifying that they haven't reached their projections and on the Friday after Thanksgiving a lot of retailers get out of the red zone on the chart so when you're out of the red zone you're in the black.

I watch too much history channel on days off.

I don't know, it's really a marketing ploy now, and used to be the point in which a lot of people began their Christmas shopping, a lot of things that were going to be on sale for the Christmas season would start being on sale that day and then it turned into what it is now.

Bit like these weird women (men too now, I've noticed  ) who cut holes in their jeans; it used to be only in this madhouse called the UK - now it's gorn global. I even saw a tv clip of the Moscow underground a few days ago where some female was sitting on the train with her knees poking out. I mean WTF?

Between Halloween and Christmas its considered the holiday season so they needed to incorporate one other big one in there to maximize profits.

Thanksgiving is now about meeting the family and eating turkey dinner for the most part while we wait for Christmas to roll around.

Gives us something to do and plan for during those two months.

Its really a dumb holiday when you think about it but granted, its a nice break for a lot of people who are into the whole family thing.

This whole time is actually my favorite time of the year so yes Thanksgiving does play a part in that so I can appreciate it for what it is.

Still like Halloween and Christmas better though.

I always get depressed after Christmas because there is nothing good to look forward to for ten more months.

    It's All Souls Day/Hallow's Eve...

Like, Memorial day to remember loved ones, friends & family passed.
Probably also a celebration of life and of our own mortality? IDK.

    Edit:
According to Google it's actually All Saints Day on November 1st and All Souls Day November 2nd and... I guess Halloween is the eve of all of that.

    Day

I'm not gonna lie though, I kinda wanna go see an NFL game now, just because I can.

I wonder, when's the next time Philadelphia Eagles are back in town?

    IDK, it looks fun.

Can we drink at them, I mean, IDK, I've never even seen the local/Crystal Palace F.C. play Selhurst Park yet, so, IDK, I guess they have beer, but, IDK, I think glass bottles are banned or something.

I've installed Craven Cottage flood lights in the summer in my day job, where Fulham F.C. play; They're owned by the same person who owns The Jacksonville Jaguars too, which plan to move to London. :(

That can't be done and I guess someone better whip those Jacksonville Jaguars into shape if they're not to embarrass me or London.

Like the worst team in the NFL or something, and now they're coming to London.
    May God help us all.

I didn't even know the Jaguars had colonized the UK. Although to be fair, the owner of the Jags was born in Pakistan so maybe settling in the UK was just second nature.

He also owns a team Fulham F.C. in the UK, so, IDK, he seems to want to bring his two teams together in London, but it seems this team will be based at Wembley Stadium and not Craven Cottage.

My local soccer/football team is Crystal Palace F.C and is owned by the same guy (an American) who owns my favourite NFL team who won the Superbowl as well.

    Go Eagles. lol

Why not make Harvest Festival a national/bank holiday weekend/Sunday
    in the UK?

    Can we ask the Queen?
I know we can ask our ministers in Westminster, our members of Parliament in the House of Commoners Commons, but, can we ask our Queen for things too or, is that treason to even ask of Her Majesty?
Would we have to ask the Archbishop or Canterbury?

Heck, the UK never stopped celebrating Beltane (on May 1) and, in fact, the Holiday is enjoying a big comeback there. I consider this the greatest holiday of the year. Funny how Christians adopted many pagan holidays but failed to do so for the day of peace on that day - ironic since they claim to worship the Prince of Peace.

Let's face it, Brits are smarter than we are.

    That's Labor Day in the UK, but we call it May Day;
It's the first Monday in May if Monday isn't the 1st of May, the first Monday in May closest to the 1st of May every year in this country (the UK).
