Ukraine captured a Russian fishing boat a while back and held the fishermen hostage. I believe it captured a tanker as well. To ward off the piracy, Russia began examining Ukrainian ships as they entered the straits.

Poroshenko made threats about a plan to retake the Azov Sea, and 3
Ukrainian warships entered the Kersch straits. There was a battle and they were captured. This might have been the plan though, since the ships given them by Washington were old and useless. They can't be so stupid to believe they could defeat
Russia, and they knew Moscow would react to protect the bridge. It was definitely a provocation.

In the battle that ensued, 3 Ukrainian ships were captured, and one sailor was wounded or captured. I'm sure the sailors whose lives were being risked, came from the Southern and Eastern Russian speaking part of Ukraine.

There's a video showing the chase on the link.

“After leaving the 12-mile zone, the boats of the FSB of the Russian Federation opened fire on the naval group of the Ukrainian Navy. Damaged small armored artillery boat “Berdyansk”. The boat lost the course, there is a wounded. Weapons are used to kill, ”the press center of the Ukrainian Navy said.

Two armored boats “Berdyansk” and “Nikopol” and the raid tug “Yana Kapu” were captured. The Russians took them in tow ”, a source in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine told the media.

This is interesting! How did the Russians take them in tow without destroying them? Maybe they surrendered. Or since they were old, maybe they thought they were immune to Russia's electronics.

Moscow knows very well that the men Poroshenko puts at risk are usually from the Russian speaking areas, so I'm sure Moscow held their fire. Could they have surrendered - Ukraine does make a habit of it?

Russia ‘used weapons’ against Ukrainian ships and seizes them in waters off of Crimea

Russia ‘s security service confirmed that it “used weapons” against three Ukrainian naval ships and seized them as they tried to enter the Sea of Azov amid a standoff between the countries on Sunday.

The FSB said it used the weapons because, it claimed, the Ukrainian vessels had entered its waters illegally. Ukraine has denied this.

As many as six Ukrainian soldiers were hurt as the ships were seized.

    Coverage of Crimea on Globalnews.ca:

U.S. ‘will never accept’ Russia’s annexation of Crimea: Pompeo

Meanwhile, BBC News reported a separate allegation that Russia rammed a Ukrainian tugboat.

All of this unfolded after three Ukrainian ships set sail from Odessa on their way to Mariupol, renewing tensions near Crimea, a region that Russia annexed in 2014.

The ships — a tugboat and two gunboats — were blocked from entering the Sea of Azov after a tanker was positioned beneath the Crimean Bridge, which spans the Kerch Strait, a channel between the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

Ukraine and Russia can both access the Sea of Azov under a bilateral treaty.

But as Russia has annexed Crimea, it has authority over both sides of the Kerch Strait.

To the west of that strait is Crimea; to the east, Russia’s region that borders the Black Sea.

Russia has accused Ukraine of entering Russian waters illegally.

The Russian navy hit Ukraine’s tugboat as it tried to stop them, according to al-Jazeera.

    The whole story

Aha! Now we know what Poroshenko's game is. He knows he can't win the elections, so he wants to stop them by declaring Marshall Law over the incident.

Bravo Poroshenko! :nana: Keep it up until you're hung up by your heels like Mussolini.

Didn't America sell those same warships to Ukraine... amidst rumbling of an Ukrainian military port in the sea of Azov.

Honestly I think Ukraine would do better taking a step back and try to resolve their differences with Russia, they sided with the west and continuing their alliance with the west will destroy them... it's very obvious the west will only lead them towards conflict with Russia. Hatred needs to make way for self perseverance and common sense. The Ukrainian politicians are doing nothing for their people, it's bad decision upon bad decision, how is the current situation working for them... it's not.

Ukraine means the outer parts of Russia, and that's where they belong. As for the 'Gallician' Nazis, they can go back to Poland. That's where they belong.:oldman:

With all the damages in the Donbass Republics, their standard of living is still higher than in Ukraine - which is the poorest country in Europe. But that's okay, Poroshenko's pocket is full and it keeps getting fuller - and guess what? You won't be able to get rid of him. He wants to declare Marshall Law to stop the elections.

Russia requested an urgent meeting of the Security Council over the Azov Sea. I read once that a war over that Sea, will make all the other wars look like child's play - I don't know why though?

There's no resolving anything with the russkis....they not interested.

The only bad decision is hitching your "wagon" to the Russkis.

Any decision to put distance from the Russkis is never a bad "decision";).

My agenda is to see a government in Kiev representing all the Ukrainians before they're ethnically cleansed by the American installed Junta, and not afterwards.

Your Ukrainians are from Poland, so they're not representative of the majority - who just happened to vote for Yanukovich. You know him, he's the one who was kicked out by the Gallician Nazis so Nuland and Pyatt could install Yats. Some sovereignty there, letting Americans choose your president. Not that it makes any difference, Ukraine's a non country anyway.:oldman:

Love someone who think that the Russians are a sea power of any kind.

They had there rear end handed to them since the time they sail around the world with their whole navel to face the at the time the brand new sea power of the empire of Japan.

We are NOT discussing the Russo/Japanese War
nor are we discussing the size of the genitals held by our
    ...................................................respected armed forces

We are discussing the American instigated, sponsored & facilitated conflict on
Russia's boarder. And that includes what recently went down in the Sea of Azov

But like most bugs when they get stuck on the FACT/FICTION pin.
