Want to play politics with peoples rights, you ain't taking that to the bank.

After Parkland, Dicks became a dick and banned the sale of so called assault weapons at their stores and raised the age to purchase handguns above the Federal level from 18 to 21.

    It burned them.

    https://www.getzone.com/news-dicks-...4I1DE7SFK4&trk_sid=H4KV7D1EDUQSGI9V2AEHD27ALK

"Revenue dipped 4.5 percent to $1.86 billion amid challenges in Dick’s Sporting Goods hunting business during the quarter through Nov. 3. Sales at stores open at least 12 months – a key metric for the retail industry – fell 6.1 percent compared to the prior year."

While I am a gun rights advocate, I have no issue with a chain that would decide not to sell guns and ammo ... this is America, land of choice where they can decide to reduce corporate profit by abandoning a specific market and where consumers can choose where they do business. I personally have never bought either a gun, ammo, or for that matter, any products from them because of their high cost, lack of knowledgeable staff. Like REI, I might visit to see what is available, but I find far better pricing elsewhere.

Also from the link in the OP

“Despite lower sales, cost management and a higher margin helped Dick’s Sporting Goods boost profit 2.5 percent to $37 million. Stack is investing in new bricks-and-mortar stores, opening six in the quarter, and bolstering the firm’s e-commerce business, where sales climbed 16 percent.”

    Seems they’re doing alright.

They would be doing better if they hadn't stuck their nose into politics.

Why would Dicks want to sell AR15s, for example, and be associated with mass killings?

Handguns are the most commonly used type of firearms in not only mass shootings, but all crimes and murders in general. Firearms such as the AR-15, are in the extreme minority and make up only a tiny percentage of the total numbers, both is terms of use and body count.

Why should a company wish to operate in a manner than alienates and offends its own customer base?

Dicks is playing a dual game, appealing to those supporting anti gun dogma and distancing themselves from controversy... I am guessing they are betting on the short memory of Americans who ultimately don’t feel militant enough about the issues to make a huge impact with any type of boycott. I notice Chic-Fil-a has not been destroyed by those ranting about it’s religious advocation. I don’t shop with them for the same reason I don’t shop at REI... better pricing elsewhere.

Are you under the impression every sporting goods store is supposed to sell every sporting good manufactured? Odd.

that's not the issue-the issue is the Dicks said they would campaign for bans and perhaps confiscations of AR 15s.

I suppose if Dicks opens a store in Somalia they can sell reconditioned M60s, but most American's don't want America to turn into Somalia.

I wouldn't let it get to you. The sporting goods store down the street from me doesn't sell bowling balls. I doubt I'll start a thread about it.

A little Dicks trivia, Dicks management was going to have a PR event at which they where going to cut up a table full of AR-15's, someone got wind of the event early on and tipped off BATF, who advised Dicks if they did such, they would be prosecuted for modifying firearms without a gunsmiths license issued by the BATF.

    That idea was quickly abandoned.

Now they are stuck with a ton of AR's they can neither sell, nor return.

Another thing that's sticking it to Dicks is the ammunition ban, firearms have around a 40% margin which is decent, and ammunition is about the same depending on the quantity a dealer contracts for, the problem as Dicks has discovered is firearm sales are about only 10% of that departments annual revenue compared to ammunition sales which people buy over an over.

Well when Dicks announced their anti-gun stance three of the top manufacturers of ammunition in the U.S., Remington, CCI and Winchester all advised Dicks they are cutting ties with the company and will no longer supply them with ammunition, that's a killer, because Dicks was selling ammo on-line, but if they don't have any, they cannot sell any once their current stocks run out, which in the case of CCI has already happened.

I also believe Hornady is cutting ties with Dicks as well, leaving them with zero ammunition to sell, which will pretty much put them out of the firearms business.

Then there are the pending shareholder lawsuits which may be combined into a class, the goal being to get the CEO kicked off of the BOD for fiduciary malfeasance, in a publically held company the BOD and CEO are required to maximize shareholder value and if a member of the BOD or the CEO takes on a personal cause that has a negative effect on shareholder value that person can be sued for that loss.
