The CFO and daughter of the founder of Huawei has been arrested in Canada and is expected to be extradited to the U.S. on charges of doing business with Iran which is under U.S. sanctions.

Huawei's CFO Arrested at U.S. Request, Sparking Outrage in China

    https://www.bloomberg.com/

Huawei Technologies Co.’s chief financial officer was arrested in Canada over potential violations of U.S. sanctions on Iran, provoking outrage from China and complicating thorny trade negotiations just as they enter a critical juncture.

Wanzhou Meng — also deputy chairwoman and the daughter of Huawei’s founder — faces extradition to the U.S., said Ian McLeod, a Canada Justice Department spokesman, declining to elaborate. She was arrested Dec. 1 after the U.S. Department of Justice in April opened an investigation into whether the leading telecommunications-equipment maker sold gear to Iran despite sanctions on exports to the region.

50/50 chance that Trump pardons her and Ivanka gets some more patents approved.

Watch what's going to happen in the stock market today. The Dow futures are already -380 and the market isn't going to open for another hour. It's going to be a huge selloff day. People are about to lose a small fortune, even the little guys with their 401K savings. All gains from the last two years are going to be wiped out.

I cashed out a month or so ago. Sounds like it might be a good time to get back in. Buy the dips.

I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole just yet. If anything, maybe move into bonds or precious metals.

Volatility produces some strange results. Wouldn't be surprised to see it go up before crashing again.

I wonder if Huawei is competing with ZTE and this was done at Xi's request. Obviously her best defense will be selective prosecution. ZTE broke our sanctions and passed along intellectual property TWICE.

What would you recommend be done with China promoting trade of sanctioned goods to Iran, while continuing to screw over American workers and companies via it's corrupt trade policies?

Sanction China imports. Force Ivanka to give back her 16 relatively new trademarks for her fashion brand that she got from China in retribution. Conflict of interest much? China and Russia have been trading with North Korea despite sanctions. This is a well known fact. What are we doing about that? Nothing.

We have been doing nothing? Given the headlines and available information, I don't know how to respond to such a claim.

And what does Ivanka have to do with anything?

Ironic that the lust for maximization of profits, by big banks and MNCs, has literally created the china of today. Which is still a communist state, a natural enemy of democracy.

It was such a brilliant move to enrich and enable the rise of china with american dollars, and allowing china to become the major supplier for goods in our consumption based economy.

It is becoming more and more obvious why our founders set up a tariff system to protect american workers and business from nations like china. And it wasn't max profits, slave labor globalism that made america what she once was, nor did globalism create history's largest middle class in america. Ignore it all you want, until finally it beats you over the head so hard that it cannot be ignored. Only then will enough americans realize how stupid our politicians were, in gutting out the american economy, which is what made her so strong and powerful to begin with. Making what a consumption economic model, here, using our own people for the largest consumer market on earth was what a genius does. Destroying this while enabling the rise of china is what insane people do. Max profits for a few indeed created insanity. The costs have not all been realized yet. But it will be untenable.

Big picture view is your friend, and without it, idiocy tends to manifest itself. And it has.

I have been competing against Huawei since the late 90s when they copied Newbridge and cisco products and undercut them in the Chinese markets. They are famous for producing products that are copies of existing technology which they stole outright. They also sell at or below cost making it almost impossible to compete with them internationally. Here in the US, we have restrictions on where a Huawei product can be installed due to concerns about their hidden pathways into networks and traffic flows. They have tried very hard to penetrate the US market by hiring top guns in domestic sales and engineering yet they have failed miserably. They produce cheap crap, give lousy support and play dirty. Good riddance to this woman.

I was using Ivanka to illustrate that if we chose to sanction trade with China, Ivanka would have to relinquish the valuable trademarks she received as favors from the Chinese only because of her president father.

Why would she have to do that? Has China shown any respect for trade mark, patent, or intellectual property rights? Has it respected the rulings from the WTO, which it fought so hard to be allowed to join?

Commerce - business - money - trademarks - China - sanctions - stop doing business! Do you realize how difficult it is to get a trademark in China or how long it takes to do that process? Ivanka was gifted 16 of them for her fashion line ONLY because she's the daughter of the president. That's pay-for-play in anyone's book.

It seems you're of the belief you can make stuff up and it becomes fact.

It also seems you're unable to answer what I think are rather simple questions.
