September 27, 2013 Former UN IPCC Lead Author Richard Lindzen: “In attributing warming to man, they fail to point out that the warming has been small, and totally consistent with there being nothing to be alarmed about”.

“I think that the latest IPCC report has truly sunk to level of hilarious incoherence. They are proclaiming increased confidence in their models as the discrepancies between their models and observations increase.” – Dr. Richard Lindzen

“To capture the public imagination, we have to offer up some scary scenarios, make simplified dramatic statements and little mention of any doubts one might have. Each of us has to decide the right balance between being effective, and being honest.” – Climate scientist Stephen Schneider, interview with Discover magazine, October, 1989

British environmental expert James Lovelock now admits he was an “alarmist” regarding global warming. Lovelock previously worked for NASA and became a guru to the environmental movement with his “Gaia” theory of the Earth as a single organism. In 2007, Time magazine named Lovelock one of its “Heroes of the Environment,” and he won the Geological Society of London’s W0llaston Medal in 2006 for his writings on the Gaia theory. That year he wrote an article in a British newspaper asserting that “before this century is over, billions of us will die and the few breeding pairs of people that survive will be in the Arctic where the climate remains tolerable.” (Independent.co.uk, 16 January 2006)
“If present trends continue, the world will be … eleven degrees colder by the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us in an ice age.” Kenneth E.F. Watt, in “Earth Day,” 1970.

“Global warming policies are having a disastrous effect on the world’s poorest people.” – Paul Diesen

Why you are being misled, by Christine Stewart, former Canadian Minister of the Environment, quoted by the Calgary Herald, December 14, 1998:

“No matter if the science is all phony, there are collateral environmental benefits… Climate change [provides] the greatest chance to bring about justice and equality in the world.”

Philip E. Tetlock published the results of a study in 2005 that showed experts were no better at predictions than chimps throwing darts. “There’s an inverse relation between fame and accuracy.” – Tetlock

“I’m a skeptic. …Global Warming it’s become a new religion. You’re not supposed to be against Global Warming. You have basically no choice. And I tell you how many scientists support that. But the number of scientists is not important. The only thing that’s important is if the scientists are correct; that’s the important part.” – Ivar Giaever, Nobel Laureate, Physics
“The geologic record suggests that climate ought not to concern us too much when we’re gazing into the energy future, not because it’s unimportant, but because it’s beyond our power to control.” – Robert Laughlin, Nobel Laureate, Physics

“The scientific facts indicate that all the temperature changes observed in the last 100 years were largely natural changes and were not caused by carbon dioxide produced in human activities.” – Robert Jastrow, Scholar, Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton University (1949-1950, 1953), Assistant Professor of Physics, Yale University (1953-1954), Chief, NASA Theoretical Division (1958-61), Founding Director, NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (1961-1981), NASA Medal for Exceptional Scientific Achievement (1968), Professor of Earth Sciences, Dartmouth College (1981-1992), Chairman, Mount Wilson Institute (1992–2003), (Died: February 8, 2008)

So what natural process is causing the troposphere and hydrosphere to warm while the stratosphere cools if not by greenhouse gases?

The biggest flaw to the entire topic is how it was originally called 'Global Warming' which proved to be misleading. If the subject would have been called 'Climate Change' from the beginning we wouldn't have so many people questioning what's going on here on earth. One thing I just heard that should tell people that something isn't right is that once a month at Spring high tide (extreme high tide) streets and homes in the Miami area are flooded. That's not normal.

It's interesting you bring that up. The terms "climate change" and "global warming" were both coined by the same person...Murray Mitchell. He was a climatolgist who published many papers after WWII. The first appearance of "global warming" occurred in the 1960's. The first appearance of "climate change" appeared in the 1950's. So "climate change" actually predates "global warming". Also, they actually mean different things.

Global Warming - The secular long term increase in the global heat uptake.

Climate Change - The changes in atmospheric and oceanic properties (more than just temperature) as a direct result of global warming.

I think most of the confusion stems from a misunderstanding of the meaning/context in which these terms apply. But a secondary problem is that scientists were interested in the cause (global warming) than the changes (climate change) that resulted from the 70's to the 90's. It's really only been since the 1990's that the focus has shifted from the cause (global warming) to the effect (climate change) due to the realization that the effects would have negative effects on human civilization. The cause had largely (at least broadly speaking) been sufficiently identified prior to the 90's so research shifted more to the effects.

Tides are generated by the gravitational pull of the moon. They have nothing to do with climate. Actually, tides recede a litte over time because the moon's orbit gets a little further from the Earth over time.

More water, the higher the tide. Less water, the lower the tide. Melting ice equals more water.

Get a glass, fill it half full with water, put in a couple of ice cubes. Mark the level. Wait for the cubes to melt. Mark the level...

    Tell me what ya get.

    Oh! Fffffffff.......

I need a triple facepalm meme

Yes the moon is getting further away from earth but a) this does not explain the higher tides and b) I have not noticed that several million years have passed

Hmm so has solar activity increased recently?

That only applies to the ARCTIC

    Tell me

What is going to happen when Greenland loses its ice sheet?

You'll have to be more specific. 'Activity' and 'recently' are too subjective. 'Yes' and 'no' answers would both be accurate depending on which activity and how recently...

Ozone, being magnetic, can be influenced by fluctuations in the suns magnetic field. If the sun 'thinned' the ozone layer (by magnetically pushing some of the ozone away) on the sun-facing side of the planet, it would result in less UV being blocked in the stratosphere (causing the stratosphere to cool) and more UV warming the troposphere/hydrosphere.

How can the Sun warm the troposphere and hydrosphere while simultaneously cooling the stratosphere? Furthermore, how can it do this when total solar radiation is declining?

That is RIDICULOUS. The ICE IS NOT SUBMERGED, cept icebergs. That which was on land or way above wwaterline, and melts, does INDEED raise the water level.

Now repeat the experiment except this time suspend the ice cubes above the water via netting. Mark the level. Wait for the cubes to melt. Mark the level. What do you get?

Anyone checked current global volcanic activities? I believe it is higher than usual today.
And consider those on the ocean floor we may only detect by ocean warming.

Warm Ups may actually contribute to volcanic activity.
Which then provoke a global cool down.
Sort of a Geological Thermostat along with Gaia Theory.

BTW how fast can a cool down happen to change what crops can grow where?
    A few years? A decade? A century?
And if it is "a few years", are any plans in place? :hmm:

While that is why they changed the name, I don't agree that it was a flaw with the name. The average global temperature is increasing. That IS global warming.

The flaw was in assuming that the average American was capable of understanding the difference between transient and local temperatures, and average global temperatures.

    More @Bowerbird :worship: SCIENCE
ref: Lack of addressing the issues.
How about start with, Is There More Volcanic Activity Today, Than Usual?
Yes? No? No Cheap Shots. :peace:

Reminds me of the Bush, Jr. gifts to industry and the delay in lowering unemployment - -
that the Job Makers know when. . . anyone else remember that era?
    Job Makers :worship: Science :worship:

I was a practicing GP physician in the eighties when the American Diabetes
Association encouraged "complex carbohydrates", like starch over sugar.
Pasta, rice good. Sugar bad. Spit makes starch into sugar.
I was teaching Glycemic Index to my diabetic patients before it had a name.
Just simple, ole time science and "screw cholesterol".
Some very successful, like able to take care of themselves and ttfn patients
would actually get angry at me because I was responsible for the
mis education of "populist" academic medicine and the ADA.

Over the decades I was proved correct but, . . .
I DO NOT :worship: Populist Science.

@Bowerbird please explain why high cholesterol diet Atkins folks lower their
total blood cholesterol. Science says otherwise yet the observations are there.
Don't take my word and experience for it. Search Atkins Diet Cholesterol Results

@Bowerbird Are YOU able to cerebrally play or ruminate with "the cool down is coming"?

Seems like I just viewed some evidence contrary.

    Reference Wars?

And then there is the difference in how they measure when feuding, references.
Mediterranean and Pacific Ring of Fire seem hot, active now. Si? Hawaii too

And still, like the North American Plate and the Eurasian Plate
that split Iceland do meet under the North Pole and
    how volcanically active are they.
Similarly the Antarctic ice found to have flowing water under the ice from geothermal sources.

No, I do not buy that there is no current increases in volcanic activity and geothermal heat release on "us". There is evidence to the contrary.
