How to Stop Illegal Immigration Without a Wall

Trumpers and other Americans are once again getting themselves all bent out of shape over a problem for which there is a simple solution. A wall won't stop illegal immigration, because it hits at a symptom of the problem, not the problem itself.

A wall may slow the immigrant flow down, but it won't stop it. The problem won't stop until you jail the employers who hire the illegals and treat them as harshly as the illegals, including jail time.

It's real simple. The illegals aren't stupid. They see the remittances coming back from the US Western Union, for thousands of dollars, so they know the money is up here, more in a month than they can make down there in a year. Wherever down there is, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras.

    It's the remittances, stupid.

If they can stand pulling chicken guts for a few years they'll make up what they paid the coyote and much more. And they are used to pulling chicken guts anyway, being farmers, so who cares?

But every time grandma goes to El Western Union in la ciudad... >>> READ FULL ARTICLE https://hubpages.com/politics/How-to-Stop-Illegal-Immigration-Without-a-Wall

Jeremy Corbyn shows how immigration problems can be solved (and why people like Hillary Clinton are no better than Trump):

    Exactly.

So, why not slow the problem down?

Immigration isn't the problem. World inequalities, encouraged by neoliberalism are. Want to be smart? Know the problem before the fascists takeover

Because for the bang for the buck you could stop it. For just $500 million you could start a new division at the DOJ with 5,000 new prosecutors just for going after employers. The problem would stop so fast it would make your head spin. No jobs, no money home. No easy money, no dangerous trips. People don't cross the desert in 100 degree heat for fun. But Americans always want to do things the dumb stupid way that doesn't work, if they don't have to think too much.

Great. So take the employers money and use it to build a wall but let them keep hiring. Isn't that a little like counting sheep by counting their feet and dividing by four?

"Blame the employers"? No, blame an American-led globalisation that has actively harmed economic development. Whining about economic migrants is then just a tad crass!

There are people who manufacture forged documents

There are people who buy forged documents

There are employers who accept Documents they know are likely forged

And there are government agencies who are indifferent to forged documents

mostly it seems no one....including trump and the gop give a **** about this issue. And as long as that is the case, the wall is just a charade

If we can't get Washington to slow the problem, how do we get them to eliminate it?

    And

Jailing employers of illegal aliens won't stop the hard crimes. It won't affect the drug trade. Won't slow human trafficking.

The real problem is that Washington doesn't want to slow the flow of illegal aliens.

It looks, to me, like Trump is nearly the only one who wants to deal with the problem.

Democrats DON'T want to fund a big government billion-dollar make-work project(?).....WELL THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY FOR THAT! WTF!? Normally every spending proposal they give the thumbs up to. Their sudden-found fiscal conservatism reeks of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

This is very correct and demonstrates why immigration has been a problem for decades and neither political party shows an interest in curbing the flow.

The Democrats want the illegals in because they are hoping for more votes down the road. Both parties want the cheap labor to help keep cost down on products and services that Americans have come to depend on.

Until we the people decide in strong voice enough is enough or something tragic happens on a national scale, I fear nothing will be done.

Trump has put the leadership of his party in an impossible position.

On December 19, The GOP-controlled Congress severely undermined Trump’s drive for a border wall, embracing a short-term spending bill that would keep the government open but deny any new money for his long-promised wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. The agreement announced by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) would fund the federal government through Feb. 8, averting a partial shutdown.

The Senate passed the legislation by voice vote. Congressional leaders said they expected Trump to sign it before the shutdown deadline.

Trump changed his mind. Hence the government shutdown.

On Jan. 3, Democrats took control of the House. The newly Democratic-controlled House passed a package of bills late Thursday that would reopen the federal government without paying for Trump’s border wall. McConnell reiterated that the Senate will take up only spending legislation that Trump supports.

McConnell’s stance prompted angry attacks from new House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and other Democrats, who insisted they were trying to give Republicans a way out of the standoff by passing two pieces of legislation: one a package of six spending bills that were passed on a bipartisan basis in the Republican-held Senate and would reopen nearly all the federal agencies that have been shuttered since Dec. 22. The other dealing with the wall and the DHS.

Not only is McConnell refusing to bring to a vote a bill that the Republican Senate already has approved, he is taking himself and the entire Republican Party out of the equation in terms of settling disputes over the shutdown. McConnell does not want to be snookered again by Trump. Trump has forced his party to take a backseat in the negotiations.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

    McConnell's current mantra.

    Welcome to the Trump Presidency.

Presidential power to tax? You do realize the Constitution says that is a Congressional power, right?

I know - let's shut the gubmint down until we get the wall.

Edit: wait - that's already being done now, finally, by the "adult in the room" (Trump), nevermind.

So the problem is some countries are better at basic economics than others so there fore we need to punish those countries until everyone is equally poor then no one will want to migrate.

North Korea's border, and the former East German Berlin wall seemed to be very very effective indeed. Walls work.

All the tough guy ideas sound good until you find out they don't work.
Taxes go to the treasury. Money to build walls or screens or whatever comes from congress.

Yep that'll work. Bomb Syria and just remark "your fault, you're not good at basic economics"
