Venus has an atmosphere. There are on Earth, under water volcanic vents. The water boils and there is life. Same with above ground vents that spew out sulfur that would kill most things, but there is life there as well. Life is tenacious and will adapt to almost anything. Those who buy into the GW scam are quick to hide behind scientific consensus. When you think about all the scientists who are searching for ET, researching time and space warps, researching ways to go faster than the speed of light, I think you'd have a pretty good consensus of scientists who believe ET is out there, a smaller group who believe ET has visited Earth and even those who think Earth was seeded by the ETs.
do you have stats of the number of scientists looking for "intelligent" life or FTL , I wouldn't think it's very many...what government organization is going to fund the search for intelligent life? SETI is the only one that I know of and I don't think it has a lot scientists in it's employment, and SETI has it covered so why would anyone else spend any time and money looking(listening)... FTL travel, as FTL has virtually complete acceptance as physically impossible so what Uni or government agency is going to fund a scientist to research it? ...there's only so much research funding to go around and scientific researchers and engineers need to apply for funding grants to government agencies and Universities that means a funding board of some sort of experts...I can imagine a scientist/engineer going to these experts and trying to convince them that they want millions for FTL drive research or searching for aliens, yeah that won't be an easy sales job...
Finding Life Beyond Earth is Within Reach Many scientists believe we are not alone in the universe. It's probable, they say, that life could have arisen on at least some of the billions of planets thought to exist in our galaxy alone -- just as it did here on planet Earth. This basic question about our place in the Universe is one that may be answered by scientific investigations. What are the next steps to finding life elsewhere? Experts from NASA and its partner institutions addressed this question on July 14, at a public talk held at NASA Headquarters in Washington. They outlined NASA's roadmap to the search for life in the universe, an ongoing journey that involves a number of current and future telescopes. https://www.nasa.gov/content/finding-life-beyond-earth-is-within-reach Lawmakers in the House of Representatives recently proposed legislation for nasa’s future that includes some intriguing language. The space agency, the bill recommends, should spend $10 million on the “search for technosignatures, such as radio transmissions” per year, for the next two fiscal years. The House bill—should it survive a vote in the House and passage in the Senate—can only make recommendations for how agencies should use federal funding. But for seti researchers like Tarter, the fact that it even exists is thrilling. It’s the first time congressional lawmakers have proposed using federal cash to fund seti in 25 years. https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2018/05/seti-technosignatures-nasa-jill-tarter/558512/
Luis Elizondo says the existence of supremely advanced unidentified aircraft, using technology that does not belong to any nation, has been "proved beyond reasonable doubt". Until two months ago, from his office on the fifth floor of the Pentagon, Mr Elizondo, a career intelligence officer, ran the innocuously named Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program (AATIP), which was funded with $22 million ($28.3 million) in "black ops money" from Congress. The existence of the real-life X-Files department, which began in 2007, was revealed earlier this month and confirmed by the Pentagon. https://www.smh.com.au/technology/u...ead-of-real-life-x-files-20171223-p4yy2r.html
Statistically, if life can happen on Earth, and if other planets/moons have similar building blocks, it's likely various forms of life exist around the Universe. But this does not mean to me that ET's are buzzing around the Universe. Just because the Universe is such an immense and awesome system does not require that there must exist new physics or near SOL travel or visiting ET''s. We can hope! Gotta wonder how long intelligent life can exist when looking at how things are going here on Earth? Even if we dismiss nuclear weapons and climate change, etc. places like Earth cannot sustain an infinite amount of life...eventually we turn to dust...
This thread assumes they exists and questions whether they are good or bad. if any of you wish to start a thread claiming they don't exist, then go ahead and start it.
Your thread will be 100% fictional...so why? You wish to ASSUME they exist then you wish to ASSUME their behavior...for what purpose?
I didn't start the thread, but I know to stay on topic. Whether it's fictional or not is merely your opinion. If you don't like the topic then butt out. You're like a Monty Python comedy sketch - yes it is , no it's not.
"Whether it's fictional or not" is not my opinion? Please provide proof that ET's exist and/or have visited Earth?
The inability to prove something doesn't make it fiction. Your logic is extremely bad. Provide proof of what you had for breakfast yesterday. Prove that Russia exists.
They are no doubt all of the above just as the Europeans were in different places and different times.
The inability to prove something doesn't make it fact. Until you can provide proof of ET's...all that we ASSUME about them is fictional. If someone wishes to examine a stool sample they can tell us what I had for breakfast yesterday. If you will accompany me to Sarah Palin's place in Alaska we can see Russia!
all true but thread was just harmless imaginative and entertaining speculation... and if you never debate "what if" scenarios regardless how remote the possibility you'll be caught off guard having no idea how to proceed if it does occur...how many nations were caught unprepared by the 2004 tsunami because they never considered the remote possibility of a tsunami and neglected to have a early warning system in place... Imo the likelihood of ET ever arriving here is zero, but in the extreme unlikelihood we detect them it doesn't hurt to have discussed all the options on how we should proceed before and during contact...
I fully agree we need to continue discussing ET's but better question instead of ET's...Good or Bad might be IF ET's exist and visit us and they are 'bad' what is our course of action? What is the protocol if and when this happens? Should we proactively be signaling ET's? Based on how many Americans fear brown-skinned humans I can imagine many of us will be quite hostile to ET's...even if they are 'good' ET's. I'm rooting for ET's and wish they would show up tomorrow and knock some sense into us! I can sort of understand Trump ET in which he wants to take over and control all the 'good' planets in a solar system, but other ET's who could possibly travel between solar systems and/or galaxies, why would they be hostile? We need an open mind...
they we be bad for us real bad https://sputniknews.com/analysis/201901251071776906-alien-encounter-scenarios/
Well, in the highly advanced alien situation this is less having to do with the more advanced civilization dominating the weaker one. It's more like we are a third-world charity case calling for help.
That's assuming that the extra-terrestrials have the morals of 19th century imperialists. We have learned a lot about what happens to primitive cultures since then (as your article shows), so I would think that beings that have visited other planets would be well aware of the consequences to the primitive culture.
I have no proof but there's a ton of evidence. This isn't a court and you are no one to demand proof from anyone.
No, it is not a court, but if you are going to make controversial statements on a science thread, you should be prepared to back your **** up.
